Oh god, I'm incredibly late.
[Overview]
- one of the very few spinners in NU
- physically very bulky
- edgy typing
- slow as molasses
- throws your momentum out of the window
[SET]
name: Spin Support
move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Lava Plume
move 3: Stealth Rock
move 4: Yawn
item: Leftovers
ability: White Smoke
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
[SET COMMENTS]
- Rapid Spin is the crux of this set and Torkoal's niche
- Lava Plume to actually pose a threat
- rocks for further team support
- Yawn so you aren't complete set-up fodder
[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- reaches 344 HP and 416 Def, incredible physical bulk
- no recovery outside of lefties, wish support is a valuable option
- waters of all kinds scare it, especially special attacking ones
- in fact, any strong special attack will leave a dent in it
- can take random stone edges and the likes fairly well, still should switch out at the sight of rhydon
[Other Options]
- Rest, possibly Sleep Talk, to increase longevity (Heal Bell support?), you'll turn into set-up fodder, though
- Shell Smash would be a good move for any Pokemon to have, but Torkoal is way too slow to sweep (reaches 304 max) and is outclassed by Magcargo of all things
- Toxic and WoW cripple certain threats
[Checks and Counters]
- specially attacking waters (Gorebyss, Slowking, Lanturn etc.) are its biggest foes
- Camerupt won't mind anything but Yawn and hits back hard with Earth Power
- physical waters and rocks (Quagsire, Regirock, Rhydon) pose a huge threat, too, but have to be wary of lava plume
- Misdreavus blocks its spins, taunts it and slowly kills it with Shadow Ball
[Dream World]
- Shell Armor is an OK ability, but in the end it doesn't do enough to warrant the loss of moves like Stealth Rock or Yawn
- White Smoke is good enough as is, so there's no real reason to run Shell Armor anyway
Not quite finished yet btw, figuring out teammates and such.
