SM OU Sword of Aegis

Welcome all to my RMT, I just wanted to RMT one last team before this generation closes, one which represents my style of building and utilises some of my favourite mons to use during this generation, and also its just fun making an RMT. The team was built around M.Latias and Nihilego core. M.Latias has probably been my favourite Mega to use throughout the generation due to its consistency in every game, being a defensive and offensive threat. I went with a Refresh Stored Power as it pairs amazingly with Nihilego, with its Toxic Spikes luring in Toxapex, which could otherwise Haze stall M.Latias, and the Toxic Spikes allowing M.Latias to Recover stall the Ash-Greninja as well as anything else needed. While the team has not obtained any achievements for me, unless 1800 is worth anything, I still love how consistent it is and is my first pick in most situations.

Nihilego @ Electrium Z
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
-
Toxic Spikes
-
Sludge Bomb
-
Power Gem
-
Thunder

Nihilego is a very underrated pick at the moment, having an excellent match-up vs the tiers premiere Defogers in Tapu Fini, Tornadus-T, Rotom-W and Zapdos, and being able to lure in the tiers top poison type, Toxapex, with Toxic Spikes and then remove it with Z-Thunder. This makes it an excellent pairing for M.Latias as Toxapex can stop M.Latias with Haze spam, while keeping up Tspikes is essential for M.Latias to be able to beat Ash-Greninja. The team in general great appreciates Tspikes too, with 3 having access to reliable recovery moves, and Jirachis ability to flinch with Iron Head, the opposing team can quickly be stalled in to unfavourable positions. Nihilego not only lures Toxapex however, it can also smack Celesteela hard with Z-Thunder, either offing certain spreads, or weakening it enough to allow Bulu to boost passed it. It's special bulk also allows it to help check key pokemon such as Volcarona as at +1 it cannot Ohko with Z-Fire Blast or Z-Bug Buzz and has a small chance to Ohko with Hp Ground, while Power Gem Ohkos in return. Nihilego checks other fire types as well, in M.Charizard-Y and non Earth Power Heatran doing little to hurt Nihilego, while in general its SpDef stops the Pokemon such as Tapu Koko and Blacephalon from Ohkoing with their powerful stabs, and thus forces them out. Sludge Bomb is ran over Sludge Wave solely for the increased poison chance, allowing Nihilego to spread poison to non-grounded mons, while the loss off 5bp is barely missed as Nihilego doesn't hit very hard anyway.

Latias-Mega @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
-
Calm Mind
-
Stored Power
-
Recover
-
Refresh

The sword to pierce all, M.Latias is a truly fearsome Calm Mind sweeper, and with Tspikes allowing for Refresh to be run, it becomes exceedingly hard for many teams to stop, shredding many bulky teams with little to hold it back. Refresh lets M.Latias shutdown attempts to Toxic stall it from the likes of Heatran, Chansey and Gastrodon, closing off many teams method of beating it while Stored Powers power goes up exponentially with each Calm Mind boost, letting it blow past the strongest resists after boosts. However boosts are essential for Stored Power to do any damage, both stopping M.Latias from revenge killing anything and allowing time for the opponents counter play making timing key. M.Latias's fantastic bulk and typing accommodate for many set up opportunities, its is also used to help alleviate pressure from the defensive core, helping check fire types such as Heatran, Victini, M.Charizard-X with Earthquake and M.Charizard-Y, taking pressure off Zapdos in checking Landorus-T, M.Lopunny and Kartana, and checking Koko and Water types for Bulu, allowing the team to be a lot more flexible in many match-ups, spreading the weight across more Pokemon.

Jirachi @ Leftovers
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 248 HP / 196 SpD / 64 Spe
Careful Nature
-
U-turn
-
Iron Head
-
Secret Power
-
Stealth Rock

Jirachi provides the teams Stealth Rocks as well as possessing nice defensive synergy with M.Latias, covering its dragon, ice and fairy weakness while M.Latias in turn covers Jirachis fire and ground. Jirachis bulk and typing also let it take on menacing special attacks such as Tapu Lele, Magearna and M.Alakazam, pairing with Tapu Bulu to shut down psyspam cores. U-Turn is ran to pick up momentum for the team with Jirachi often forcing switches from fear of Iron Head or status from Secret Power, helping ease prediction and let Greninja and Nihilego to come in with little chip as possible, increasing their longevity throughout match. With many of the team having access to reliable recovery, I went with Secret Power over Healing Wish, as it help provide more to support the team. Secret Power is an interesting move as it can both have a 60% sleep chance and 60% paralyse chance depending on terrain. In grassey terrain, Secret Power can punish the likes of Rotom-W and Zapdos, that don't fear paralyse from regular Secret Power, by putting them to sleep, both allowing for Rocks to stay up and/or momentum to be gained and opposing to be stopped, shutting down potential Volt Switch users in the process. In electric or no terrain, Secret Power has 60% paralysis chance, allowing Jirachi to punish ground and steel type switch ins, such as Landorus-T, Garchomp and Heatran. Bulu greatly appreciates Heatran being paralysed as it then outspeeds and can ko it with Superpower. Paralysis also increases Jirachis ability to check boosting threats such as Magearna and M.Latias, as once paralysed, Jirachi can very comfortably paraflinch them to death.

Tapu Bulu @ Leftovers
Ability: Grassy Surge
EVs: 248 HP / 164 SpD / 96 Spe
Careful Nature
-
Horn Leech
-
Superpower
-
Swords Dance
-
Synthesis

Tapu Bulu makes for a wonderful pairing with Jirachi, providing terrain to help cover its ground weakness, allowing Secret Power to sleep opposing Pokemon, and increasing its recovery which further stacks with Jirachis ability to stall turns, either through flinching or sleep. Tapu Bulu also dampens Jirachis role in checking special attackers, sharing the load with the likes of M.Alakazam and Tapu Lele while also checking Tapu Koko and Ash-Greninja, which Jirachi cannot cover. In addition Zapdos appreciates Tapu Bulus natural bulk helping covering physical attackers too, checking the likes of M.Lopunny and M.Gyarados, while Zapdos surprisingly appreciates Bulus terrain, being able to gain extra recovery and resistance to key ground attacks while Roosting. Swords Dance lets Tapu Bulu on top of being a defensive check, provides some offensive presence, which is important due to the overall weak nature of the team, with SD allowing it to break bulky set up sweepers such as Reuniclus and act as a secondary win condition with paralysis being easily spread by the likes of Zapdos and Jirachi.

Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Static
EVs: 248 HP / 240 Def / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
-
Discharge
-
Heat Wave
-
Roost
-
Defog

Zapdos makes for the teams defoger and defensive wall. With solid typing combined with static, Zapdos not only is able to check the likes of Hawlucha, M.Lopunny, Excadrill and Kartana, but also deter them and other U-Turners from even attacking in fear of Paralysis. Static is used over Pressure due to the fact the team doesn't have a Scarfer and thus is relativly slow compared to many other teams. This in combination with Discharge and Jirachi provide superb speed control for the team, with Bulu especially appreciating Tornadus-T and Kartana being paralysed. Heat Wave is ran as both M.Scizor and Ferrothorn are massive pains for the team to deal with, with M.Scizor being a stop to M.Latias and Ferrothorn being annoying to switch in to otherwise.

Greninja (M) @ Expert Belt
Ability: Protean
EVs: 124 Atk / 132 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
-
Ice Beam
-
Low Kick
-
Hidden Power [Fire]
-
Spikes

Greninja provides some all important speed and offence to the team, being able to revenge a variety of threats with its fire, fighting, ice coverage, also making it force a lot of switches, particularly steel and flying types, forcing the switches into potential Tspike weak mons. Spikes are to take advantage of these switches, racking up more damage in combination with Tspikes while taking pressure off Zapdos to defog as much. The attack EVs plus Expert Belt ensure Low Kick always Ohkoes offensive Heatran, as it can prove highly annoying to the team, with Taunt + Toxic + Magma Storm variants trapping and removing M.Latias from the game. Bulu moreover appreciates Heatrans removal. Low Kick is especially nice for its ability to revenge Kyurem-B, Magnezone and genrally hit dark types hard for M.Latias. Greninja furthermore has the ability to lure both Tyranitar and M.Scizor due to the fact that both Low Kick and Hp Fire are often not ran on the same set, so if one is revealed people don't expect the other.

Weavile proves very troublesome for the team to beat, with its stab combinations decimating everything. Best way of dealing with it is through the combination of Hazards and prediction, it will find itself quickly worn down.

M.CharizardX with Dragon Claw can run through this team as well, however this is more managable due Jirachi being able to unsuspectingly paralyse on the Dragon Dance, and Zapdos usually has to chances to paralyse with Discharge and or Static. Even then its Hp can be quickly worn down due to Flare Blitz plus hazards.

The team doesn't have anything to resist its stab making Choice Band Tyarnitar exceedingly threatening. Bulu take a million from Stone Edge on entry, while sand prevents Synthesis from being able to recover enough to come back in later. Tyrinitar also pursuit traps both Nihilego and M.Latias, while shutting down M.Latias completely while its alive. Jirachi and Bulu can resist individual stabs, to make time to try and lure with Greninja.

The team has no ghost resist, and there secondary stabs nail Bulu. Nihilego can eat attacks, but not for long while Greninja struggles to revenge kill from full, having nothing to touch Blacephalon.

While the team can handle 1 set up sweeper comfortable on the whole, it can get quickly pressure by many due to the slow nature of the team. Toxic Spikes and going for paralysis is important but not always enough.

What's your opinion on running scarf gren rather than belt? I've had trouble revenge killing other scarfers and especially tapu koko
I haven't tried it but looking on paper however, the team would lose a lot of power and losing the ability to switch up moves would hurt both spike stacking potential and offensive pressure in general, but due to the teams slow nature, the speed is a nice boon for revenge killing, especially boosting threats on HO which the team can struggle with. This is just mild speculation though and to confirm would have to test.
