Showdown Custom Sprites

I'm really not certain where to ask what I want, so I figure here would be the best spot, since it relates to art.

One thing I think would be a fun lil' project is to replace some sprites with custom art. Not the trainer sprites, the Pokemon (and maybe some BGs) themselves. Kinda like what happens on April Fools, but with cool art instead of joke art.

I'd draw all the sprites myself, the only issue is; I'm not certain how to do that, if it's even possible.
So I'm asking if it'd be possible to do such a thing.

I'd love to replace the sprites of some 'mons me and my friends like to use, so we can have some really stylish battles. I just think striking sprites in cool poses would be way more appealing than gifs of 3D models standing there.

Doing something like this is probably not possible for a number of reasons, but I figured there is no harm in asking.

You could set up some client-side script to redirect pokémon image URLs to your side server with the new images. In a sense "modding" the client; some have made custom skins for PS with this.
Another option is to switch to the gen5 style sprites in the settings, which do often have more dynamic poses than the 3d model rips.

Although, for now I think I'll simply stick with BW sprites, since I do have quite a lot on my plate between work and other personal projects.
But it was a thought I had and I figured the least I could do is ask.
