Passimian is a premier offensive pivot thanks to its wonderful coverage alongside access to U-turn. Furthermore, Passimian's impressive Attack and its resistance to Stealth Rock, which drastically increases its overall longevity, allow it to compete with other offensive pivots such as Heliolisk and Rotom. On top of this, Passimian's ability Defiant enables it to apply even more pressure versus teams when paired with entry hazard support. However, Passimian's seemingly average bulk allows it to pivot only into weaker physical attackers or resisted hits or come in on predicted double switches through the likes of a VoltTurn core. Aside from its average bulk, Passimian's main drawback is the predictability behind the set. Teams with Ghost-types or reliable Fighting-type answers with access to recovery are usually safe switch-ins to Passimian and could ultimately limit Passimian's ability to spam its STAB attacks.

[SET COMMENTS]
Through the use of a Choice Scarf, Passimian outspeeds the entire unboosted metagame. In tandem with its naturally high Attack and the coverage to do so, this grants Passimian the offensive capability of revenge killing (RH) a majority of opposing offensive threats. Furthermore, Passimian tends to force switches thanks to its ability to check several offensive threats such as Silvally-Steel, Heliolisk, and Archeops. U-turn is essential for Passimian's role as a pivot, because Passimian can threaten common defensive Pokemon and force them out, such as Guzzlord, Gigalith, and Regirock. Likewise, Knock Off can provide item disruption versus would-be switch-ins that would fear nothing from U-turn such as Vaporeon and Aromatisse. Rock Slide is the preferable fourth move for its ability to check Flying-types such as Talonflame, Charizard, Xatu, and Scyther. Earthquake is a good alternative to weaken Poison-types such as Toxicroak, while Gunk Shot is a fine option to have a reliable way to punish Fairy-types such as Ribombee and Silvally-Fairy. Passimian often relies on prediction, as several teams carry solid Fighting checks, especially if facing Pokemon such as Jellicent and Palossand. Therefore, Choice Scarf Passimian partners incredibly well with Vikavolt or Regirock on entry hazard stacking teams that greatly appreciate a fast Pokemon / revenge killer and need methods of deterring Defog. Regirock is able to switch in comfortably versus faster Pokemon such as Talonflame, whereas Vikavolt pressures bulky Water-types and can complete a VoltTurn core in order to bring Passimian in safely versus Pokemon such as Gigalith. On the other hand, Mesprit is able to handle defensive checks such as Weezing but also appreciates Passimian's abilities to threaten the Steel- and Rock-types that wall it such as Galarian Stunfisk and Gigalith. Heliolisk makes another excellent VoltTurn partner thanks to its immunity to Scald burns from Vaporeon and Jellicent and bait in Guzzlord.

Passimian's monstrous Attack alongside its expansive coverage grants it a fine role as a wallbreaker with pivoting capabilities in order to turn the tides versus defensive teams. U-turn allows Passimian to pivot out against defensive walls such as Weezing and gain offensive momentum. Knock Off hinders switch-ins that rely on Heavy-Duty boots to perform as decent checks versus Passimian, like Talonflame and Charizard, and also cripples defensive checks by removing Leftovers or Black Sludge, such as Aromatisse and Weezing. Seed Bomb is ideal as Passimian's fourth move, as it provides devastating damage versus several common walls that resist or are immune to Close Combat such as Palossand, Jellicent, and Claydol. For perspective, Jellicent and Claydol are 2HKOed by it, whereas Palossand has a high chance to be 2HKOed after Stealth Rock. Earthquake is also a fantastic option in order to dismantle Poison-types such as Toxicroak, while Gunk Shot handles Fairy-types like Aromatisse and provides a strong neutral attack versus several Flying-types like Talonflame on the switch. However, Aromatisse commonly runs Protect and can scout for Gunk Shot, and Silvally-Fairy's naturally higher Speed means it is usually safer to U-turn out to a Fairy-type check such as Silvally-Steel or Togedemaru. Because of Passimian's wallbreaking capabilities and phenomenal coverage, it can be hard to handle for defensive playstyles, especially when paired with other VoltTurn members. Choice Scarf Togedemaru is an excellent partner for its ability to check faster threats to Passimian such as Silvally-Fairy, Whimsicott, Talonflame, and Ribombee. Passimian is also able to reliably wallbreak versus Togedemaru's counters such as Galarian Stunfisk and Lanturn. Entry hazard setters like Sandaconda are wonderful partners, with Passimian, as not only will residual damage make its Choice Band-boosted attacks that much more difficult to switch into, Sandaconda also brings Glare support versus faster Pokemon like Virizion and Whimsicott and appreciates Passimian's ability to deter Defog thanks to Defiant.
