Pros:
  • Offensive Presence: Ground and Ice are great for general coverage and having STAB on both of them is great. Combined with base 130 Atk, Mamoswine can dish out a lot of damage. Kingambit, Dragapult, Slowking-Galar, Zapdos, Ting-Lu, Amoonguss, Dragonite, Landorus-Therian and Enamorus are some of the relevant Pokemon that it can threaten. To be fair, these match-ups can be turned around with a Tera type that matches well into Mamoswine. Other Pokemon can be dealt with via Stone Edge, Knock Off, Trailblaze or a Tera Blast.
  • Utility Options: Knock Off is a really nice move to have, crippling checks and chipping down on them. Especially, when they don't have reliable recovery. Ice Shard is great at picking off weakened opponents, even better with a high Attack stat like Mamoswine. Stealth Rock is Stealth Rock, and Mamoswine actually threatens Great Tusk with Ice STAB.
Cons:
  • Defensive Typing: While offensively, Ice/Ground is great, defensively it isn't looking so good. Thick Fat actually gives it somewhat off a defensive presence but it is pretty much just resistant to Poison, Ice and immune to Electric. While it fears Steel, Fighting, Water and Grass, which gets worse when you think that Great Tusk, Gholdengo, Iron Valiant, Samurott-Hisui and many more can threaten it. Switching into defensive Pokemon can also be tricky since Toxapex and Amoonguss can hit it super effectively, Glowking can poison or switch out while Zapdos and Moltres can hit it for huge damge.
  • Checked by Common Pokemon: Its STABs are hard to switch into, however it is checked offensively. The aforementioned Pokemon, like Gholdengo and Great Tusk, are faster and threaten it with STABs, with Great Tusk being able to eat an Ice Shard thanks to its bulk. Rotom-Wash is also a huge thorn in its sight. It has no way of boosting and outside of Tera Grass Tera Blast, its only way to damage Rotom-Wash is to hit it with Trailblaze. Allowing Rotom-Wash to hit Hydro Pumps or Will-O-Wisps. Manaphy is also a returning Pokemon, that makes its life difficult.
  • Competition: Baxcalibur is a really strong Pokemon right now. It is faster and way stronger than Mamoswine, and while its Earthquake does not have STAB, it has STAB Glaive Rush, a burn immunity and set-up in Swords Dance and Dragon Dance, allowing it to sweep more effectively.

Tera Potential:
:mamoswine:
:mamoswine:
Water is generally a good type and it allows Mamoswine to potentially 1v1 Greninja, Rotom-Wash and Great Tusk. Loosing the Electric immunity and gaining a weakness to it is bad and Thick Fat does not help this typing much, but other than these minor shortcomings, it is a good typing to Tera into.

:mamoswine:
:mamoswine:
Fairy gives it an even better match-up against Dragons and gaining a better match-up against Iron Valiant and Great Tusk. With the Ice resistance of Thick Fat, it is able to check Baxcalibur more effectively.

:mamoswine:
:mamoswine:
Grass is great against Rotom-Wash, especially with Tera Blast, and with Thick Fat, it has a solid defensive profile. It is also great against Great Tusk, Samurott-Hisui, Dondozo and Greninja.

:mamoswine:
:mamoswine:
Ground removes its Ice type, which actually gives it a good defensive typing and its Earthquake is really hard to take. The removal of Ice makes it better against Great Tusk, Kingambit and Iron Valiant.

:choice-band: Choice Band :choice-band:
Mamoswine @ Choice Band
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Water / Fairy / Grass
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Earthquake / High Horsepower
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Knock Off

This is a no brainer on Mamoswine, CB makes it even harder to switch in. The main issues that come from this set, is that it is somewhat prediction reliant, allowing for an opponent to nullify its presence it they predict correctly. High Horsepower is an alternative for Earthquake, if Rillaboom becomes meta with Grassy Glide. Speaking of which, while Rillaboom is faster, it likes to run Adamant. Therefore, you can outspeed Rillaboom with Jolly Ice Shard. Other than that, this set is simple, it clicks buttons and hopes it works.

:life-orb: All-out Attacker :expert-belt:
Mamoswine @ Life Orb / Expert Belt / Loaded Dice
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Grass / Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake / High Horsepower
- Icicle Crash / Icicle Spear
- Ice Shard / Knock Off / Stone Edge / Rock Blast
- Trailblaze / Tera Blast / Freeze-Dry

With Life Orb or Ebelt, you get a power boost but have the freedom of switching moves. HHP is there again for the same reason with Rillaboom. When running Trailblaze, you want to run Jolly if you want to outrun Dragapult and don't run Ice Shard. Tera Blast is also nice with Grass or Fairy, which gives it a great coverage move, that hits Rotom-Wash, in the formers case, and Baxcalibur, in the latters case. And while this is niche, I wanted to mention Freeze-Dry that can deal a bit more damage to Rotom-Wash if you decide not to Tera.

:focus-sash: 3 Attacks + Rocks :focus-sash:
Mamoswine @ Focus Sash
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Ground / Water / Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Icicle Crash / Stone Edge
- Ice Shard / Stone Edge
- Stealth Rock

This is strechning it, especially since Mamoswine is a hit and run Pokemon, but Stealth Rock is a valuable move and Mamoswine can protect them with its STABs. The issue comes from its typing, thus Great Tusk has an easier time spinning on it. Tera helps in this case but burning your Tera early is bairely beneficial. You generally like to stick on attacking sets without Stealth Rock, but I wanted to mention this set anyway.

Verdict:
Mamoswine has great offensive potential, but its low speed, Ice-typing and the existance of Baxcalibur make its life difficult. It's a solid Tera Pokemon and it has great traits, but it is really unfavored in this metagame. It will be amazing in UU and still retain a niche in OU, especially if Baxcalibur manages to get banned.

I've honestly been thinking that Mamoswine could benefit from a defensive set with the tera grass type,
Trail Tusk
Mamoswine @ Leftovers
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 Hp / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Careful Nature
- Earthquake / High Horsepower
- Icicle Crash / knock off
-Trailblaze
- Amnesia
Mamoswine has finally been given a move to bolster it's speed. Since I first learned of trailblaze I prayed that it would get it in the DLC and it didn't disappoint. Tera Grass combined with thick fat makes Mamoswine weak to poison and flying types but it's original types are built to hard counter those. Terastylize when you catch your opponent off guard and use amnesia to shore up the swine's so-so special bulk and then use trailblaze to boost your speed a bit. Earthquake is there if you're not using it with grassy terrain set up, otherwise go with HHp. Similarly, Icicle crash is there to threaten flying types and other types that might give your team trouble.

I was thinking that on it's offensive set it could run and item to bolster its longevity like boots or leftovers, as its bulk is genuinely good thanks to its high hp stat and workable defences and thanks to its solid movepool and stabs giving it strong meta mus making keeping it around valuable.

This thing is suprisingly deadly with Trailblaze and Tera Grass + Thick Fat:

Mamoswine @ Loaded Dice
Ability: Thick Fat
Tera Type: Grass
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Rock Blast
- Icicle Spear
- Trailblaze

I prefer Jolly because Trailblaze allows it to always outspeed Dragapult with +1. I need to tweak the set a little bit but seriously it is deadly.

Any set running Freeze-Dry probably needs a SpA-neutral nature and a tiny bit of investment to making using the move worth it.

16 SpA Expert Belt Mamoswine Freeze-Dry vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-Wash: 132-158 (43.4 - 51.9%) -- 62.5% chance to 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

(Threw some random ORAS-era EV number in there, might want something other than 16 idk.)

Life Orb solves this obvs (0 investment LO has a stupidly high chance to 2HKO with Rocks), but you might prefer Expert Belt or Loaded Dice for coverage.

Freeze-Dry also kind of destroys Ogerpon-W even without investment.

0 SpA Mamoswine Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Ogerpon-Wellspring: 232-280 (77 - 93%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
