Lumineon vs. Parasect (yes you read it right) - A War Story

Status
Not open for further replies.
I probably should have put war-story somewhere in the title, if a mod would be so kind as to fix this I would be greatful ...

Whilst clearing out some old files I came across this. Although it's no an epic showdown between the titans of the UU metagame, it is, hopefully, an interesting little match featuring a number of its lesser known denizens, which is the reason I'm sharing it.

Please note: All pokemon involved were Lvl 100 and all reference to Leftover recovery will be ommitted after its initial mention ...

OK so I've tweaked the formatting a little since I originally posted this story, and whilst I'm here I might add one or two additional comments ...
Subsequnetly any purple text was not a part of the original post.

Rules: Evasion Clause, Freeze Clause, OHKO Clause, Sleep Clause, Species Clause, Timed Battle

vs.

Shiny Oddish sent out Dewgong.
Sam von Noobenschtein sent out Luxray.
Luxray's intimidate cut Dewgong's attack!

Bad start for me as my team uses and abuses Rain Dance, which Dewgong should set up. Unfortunately it can't with Luxray leading. I also have to admit to being completely ignorant as to what sets Luxray might be running ... still its an electric type, I'm leading with a water type so here's hoping he goes for an early KO ...

Shiny Oddish switched in Lanturn.
Luxray used Thunder Fang.

Well free switch, but now what? I vaguely recollect that the last Luxray I faced was banded, and so hoping this to be the case I go on the offensive with Lanturn ...

vs.

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Meganium.
Lanturn used Thunder Wave.
Meganium is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Although Lanturn knows Ice Beam, I know from experience I'm not taking Meganium out before it gets me, so hoping for the usual Leech Seed tactic I switch too ...

vs.
&

Shiny Oddish switched in Parasect.
Meganium used Leech Seed.

Hell yeah!

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Ninetales.
Parasect used Substitute.
Parasect made a substitute!
Parasect's leftovers restored its health a little!

Hell no! Ninetales is (one) of Parasect's worst nightmares, still I had a sub-up so I knew it wasn't time for crispy fried mushrooms just yet ...

Ninetales used Flamethrower.
It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Parasect!
Parasect's substitute faded!
Parasect used Spore.
Ninetales fell asleep!

Well at least it's asleep and it's not like my team is short on water types, still lets try to set Rain Dance up whilst the fiery fox slumbers ...

vs.
&

Shiny Oddish switched in Dewgong.
Ninetales is fast asleep!

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Politoed.
Dewgong used Rain Dance.
Rain began to fall!

Aah .. Politoed. I love Politoed ... I'm actually quite saddened by thought of having to shock it into submission ...

vs.
&

Shiny Oddish switched in Rotom.
Politoed used Toxic.
Rotom was badly poisoned!
The rain continues to fall.
Rotom's leftovers restored its health a little!
Rotom is hurt by poison!

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Luxray.
Luxray's intimidate cut Rotom's attack!
Rotom used Thunder.
It's not very effective...
Luxray lost 33% of its health.
The rain continues to fall.
Rotom is hurt by poison!

I perhaps should have been more suspicious by this switch-in, however thinking that perhaps Sam lacked a sturdier electric resist, and would switch next turn, I left Rotom in to Shadow Ball into oblivion ...

Luxray used Crunch.
It's super effective!
Rotom lost 98% of its health.
Shiny Oddish's Rotom fainted.
The rain continues to fall.
6-5 to Sam

So it was scarfed not banded ... good to know ... although too late for Rotom sadly.

Shiny Oddish switched in Toxicroak.
Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Ninetales.
Toxicroak used Swords Dance.
The rain continues to fall.
Toxicroak soaked up rain!
Toxicroak restored 12% of its health.

Thankfully it was a) Still raining and b) Ninetales was still asleep, as it gives Toxicroak a bit of chance against it ...

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Politoed.
Toxicroak used Poison Jab.
Politoed lost 78% of its health.
Politoed was poisoned!
Toxicroak lost 10% of its health.
The rain continues to fall.
Toxicroak soaked up rain!
Politoed's leftovers restored its health a little!
Politoed is hurt by poison!

Toxicroak used Poison Jab.
Politoed lost 74% of its health.
Sam von Noobenschtein's Politoed fainted.
Toxicroak lost 10% of its health.
The rain continues to fall.
Toxicroak soaked up rain!
5-5 Even

Sorry Politoed ... no matter how cute you are, it had to be done.

It also worked out quite handily that one of Sam's water resists was elminated so early ...

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Lunatone.
Toxicroak used Sucker Punch.
It's super effective!
Lunatone lost 191% of its health.
Sam von Noobenschtein's Lunatone fainted.
Toxicroak lost 10% of its health.
The rain stopped.
5-4 Me

Alas poor Lunatone, we never got to know you. Still that rain stopping means no more recovery for Toxicroak ... to switch, or not to switch, that is the question ...

I still can't quite figure out why Lunatone was switched in when most Toxicroak carry Sucker Punch as routine.

---
Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Ninetales.
Ninetales is fast asleep!
Toxicroak used Poison Jab.
Ninetales lost 124% of its health.
Ninetales hung on using its Focus Sash!
Toxicroak lost 10% of its health.

It was too tempting a target ... unfortunately I wasn't expecing the focus sash, still its still asleep so, its dead next turn ...

Ninetales woke up!
Ninetales used Flamethrower.
Toxicroak lost 64% of its health.
Toxicroak used Poison Jab.
Ninetales lost 126% of its health.
Sam von Noobenschtein's Ninetales fainted.
Toxicroak lost 10% of its health.
5-3 Me

Unless it wakes up and spews flames in my face >_>. Somehow my Dry Skin Toxicroak managed to survive but was really weakened ...

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Luxray.
Luxray's intimidate cut Toxicroak's attack!
Toxicroak used Sucker Punch.
Luxray lost 64% of its health.
Toxicroak lost 10% of its health.
Shiny Oddish's Toxicroak fainted.
Luxray used Thunder Fang.
But there was no target!
4-3 Me

Toxicroak's sacrifice was not in vain ... I really had no idea what moveset it was running, and so could not afford to switch anything into Luxray. Still Toxicroak had served me well and deserved a nice long rest ...

vs.

Shiny Oddish switched in Lanturn.

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Lumineon.
Lanturn used Ice Beam.
It's not very effective...
Lumineon lost 10% of its health.
Lanturn's leftovers restored its health a little!
Lumineon's leftovers restored its health a little!

What the hell is that ...? As you've probably guessed I was expecting Meganium (hence the Ice Beam), unfortunately, much like Luxray, I had no idea what this thing was capable of ...

Lumineon used Toxic.
Lanturn was badly poisoned!
Lanturn used Thunder Wave.
Lumineon is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Lanturn is hurt by poison!

---
Lumineon used Protect.
Lumineon protected itself!
Lanturn used Thunderbolt.
Lumineon protected itself!

I hate toxistalling with a passion ... this thing had to die, and die painfully ...

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Meganium.
Lanturn used Thunderbolt.
It's not very effective...
Meganium lost 13% of its health.
Lanturn is hurt by poison!
Meganium's leftovers restored its health a little!

This was bad play on my part pure and simple, that switch in was so obvious a beginner could have predicted it ...

Indeed should have predicted it ...

Lanturn used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Meganium lost 36% of its health.
Meganium used Aromatherapy.

I was expecting an attack (and planning another sacrifice), still Meganium was a little closer to death, although nowhere near as close as Lanturn ... still I had two options, continue with the sacrifice or go for a Parasect switch in ...

vs.

Shiny Oddish switched in Parasect.
Meganium used Leech Seed.

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Luxray.
Luxray's intimidate cut Parasect's attack!
Parasect used Substitute.

Luxray used Ice Fang.
It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Parasect!
Parasect's substitute faded!
Parasect used X-Scissor.
Luxray lost 26% of its health.
Sam von Noobenschtein's Luxray fainted.
4-2 Me

With hindsight Spore would have probably been the better move ... I had no guarantee that Parasect would KO Luxray, but it looked like the pokegods were smiling on me ...

vs.

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Lumineon.
Shiny Oddish switched in Dewgong .
Lumineon used Toxic.
Dewgong was badly poisoned!

Lumineon used Protect.
Lumineon protected itself!
Dewgong used Rain Dance.
Rain began to fall!
Dewgong's status was cured!

Toxistall this fish-face, unfortunately I couldn't really do much back to it ...

I recently recreated this team and you'll all be happy to know that Dewgong is less easily walled by water types.

Lumineon used Toxic.
Dewgong was badly poisoned!
Dewgong used Surf.
It's not very effective...
Lumineon lost 18% of its health.
The rain continues to fall.
Dewgong's status was cured!

Yes ... this could be a very long battle ... and fearing the worst, both of us switched ...

vs.

Shiny Oddish switched in Golduck.
Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Meganium.
The rain continues to fall.

Hmm ... at this point I decided to take a risk ...

Well "risk" in the sense that my lead would be shakier, ultimately Golduck's success or failure would not have been earth shattering.

Golduck used Hypnosis.
Meganium fell asleep!
Meganium is fast asleep!

Golduck used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Meganium lost 39% of its health.
Meganium is fast asleep!
The rain continues to fall.

So far so good ...

Golduck used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Meganium lost 45% of its health.
Meganium woke up!
Meganium used Energy Ball.
It's super effective!
Golduck lost 101% of its health.
Shiny Oddish's Golduck fainted.
The rain continues to fall.
3-2 Me

And just like that lady luck turns against me ...

vs.
Shiny Oddish switched in Lanturn.
Meganium used Synthesis.
Meganium restored 25% of its health.
Lanturn used Thunderbolt.
It's not very effective...
Meganium lost 13% of its health.
The rain continues to fall.
Lanturn is hurt by poison!

As you can probably tell I wasn't expecting a) Meganium to stay in b) it to know Synthesis. Still as long as the rain holds out it's healing is hampered ... there's a chance that Lanturn might be able to take it ...

Meganium used Synthesis.
Meganium restored 25% of its health.
Lanturn used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Meganium lost 34% of its health.
The rain stopped.
Lanturn is hurt by poison!

Yes, of course, the rain stops. >_>

Well it was always going to stop a some point wasn't it? Serves me right for not keeping tabs on how long it had been up and running.

---
Meganium used Synthesis.
Meganium restored 50% of its health.
Lanturn used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
Meganium lost 37% of its health.
Lanturn is hurt by poison!

Now I'm in a spot of trouble as Lanturn is almost dead and Meganium is looking fairly healthy ... perhaps a spot of beauty sleep will get Meganium in tip top form?

&
vs.

Shiny Oddish switched in Parasect
Meganium used Synthesis.
Meganium restored 50% of its health.

Meganium used Energy Ball.
It's not very effective...
Parasect lost 7% of its health.
Parasect used Spore.
Meganium fell asleep!

Just as I had hoped this Meganium was completely walled by my Parasect ... this is actually a fairly common occurance with Meganium, most people only give them a grass attack and leech seed meaning they are easily walled by grass types. Remember people always give your Meganium another attack ...

Meganium is fast asleep!
Parasect used Substitute.

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Lumineon.
Parasect used X-Scissor.
Lumineon lost 26% of its health.

That did a lot less than I had hoped for as base 90 attack isn't that bad... Lumineon is tougher than I thought it would be.

Lumineon used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Parasect!
Parasect's substitute faded!
Parasect used X-Scissor.
Lumineon lost 27% of its health.

Unfortunately it's also faster and knows Ice Beam, ok time to force some switches ...

Shiny Oddish switched in Dewgong.
Lumineon used Ice Beam.
It's not very effective...
Dewgong lost 3% of its health.

Lumineon used Toxic.
Dewgong was badly poisoned!
Dewgong used Rain Dance.

Meganium woke up!
Meganium used Leech Seed.
Parasect used X-Scissor.

The rain continues to fall.
Parasect soaked up rain!

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Lumineon.
Parasect used Substitute.
The rain continues to fall.
Parasect soaked up rain!

Lumineon used Ice Beam.
It's super effective!
The substitute took damage for Parasect!
Parasect's substitute faded!
Parasect used Spore.
Lumineon fell asleep!
The rain continues to fall.
Parasect soaked up rain!

Phew ... at this point I'm feeling reasonably confident that the end is in sight ... Parasect might be somewaht lacking in the sweeping department, but I'd managed to manipulate the situation so as that it's chief threat was snoozing peacefully...

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Meganium.
Parasect used Substitute.
Parasect made a substitute!
The rain continues to fall.
Parasect soaked up rain!

Meganium used Energy Ball.

Sam von Noobenschtein switched in Lumineon (lvl 100 Lumineon ?).
Lumineon is fast asleep!

Sam von Noobenschtein: gg

The substitute took damage for Parasect!
Parasect's substitute faded!
Parasect used X-Scissor.

Sam von Noobenschtein's Lumineon fainted.
Shiny Oddish wins!
Shiny Oddish: gg

Yay for
-Sam von N. for a fun and interesting battle ... I learned something about two pokemon I'd previously overlooked.
Something there has been a dearth of recently : (
- Toxicroak's sweep 'n' sacrifice
- Dewgong for being able to wall Lumineon
- Parasect for walling Meganium
- Politoed ... just for being cute.

Boo too ...
- Rotom and Golduck, both of whom can do better ...

Final Role Call

Shiny Oddish's team (in order of appearance)

Sam von Noobenschtein's team (in order of appearance)

Thanks for bearing with me, and hope you enjoyed it.

It was alright, but it was pretty one sided during most of the match and ended up with a 3-0 victory.

It was okay, though.

Yay. It was funny warstory. I love UU battles. (I'm building UU team too!).

The battle itself was ok. It was nice to see Parasect action 'cause Parasect is cool looking pokemon. Was Rain Dance your Parasect final move?

SD Toxicroak is huge threat in UU. He owned 3 pokemons.
Yeah I liked this battle. I hope people will play UU often, 'cause OU is bit boring at this moment IMO.

I love all the pokemon that you both used. lol. And this warstory was actually really easy to read compared to some others. I Can't wait to here more from you .

Props for using Dewgong!

@TheMantyke: Thanks, I didn't want to go down the Omastar/Gorebyss/Kabutops rain dance route that is proving popular at present.

@Twilight: Unfortunately not every battle can be an edge of the seat thrill fest ... the idea behind posting this was to showcase the talents of some of the lesser seen UU pokemon.

If the battle appeared one-sided I'd like to think that that was down to some good prediction and clever switching, which whilst perhaps not the most exciting type of battle to read about, is at least demonstrative of how strategy/planning (or indeed luck) can influence a battle. Besides after my previous three down to the wire efforts and Cynthia's story ... hopefully I can be excused this once ; )

@Ferdie: Pursuit was Parasect's final move, to catch psychic types fleeing the inevitable Bug attack.

@Lawman: Well UU/NU are pretty much undecided at the moment so I tend to lump them together.

@jujuomi: This is my fourth war-story now, the others are still floating around if you search for threads started by me - I can't promise that they're all as easy to read, but I can promise they feature UU pokemon. Other battlers who have written stories involving UU pokemon are Bologo and -Cynthia (there are more but they don't spring to mind) so check them out too ...

@X-Act: I'd never used him before this battle, he was surprisingly fun to use. I'm definitely going to revisit this team in the future.

Great! Dewgong in action. Props for using Dewgong and Parasect. Heh, SubSoak allowed Parasect a lot of battle time. Bug/Grass seems to have its advantages. BTW, what set was it? X-Scissor/Spore/Sub/??

Really loved the Dewgong and Parasect usage. I always wanted to use a Rain Dance team with Parasect in it. By the way, how much does Dry Skin restore? 6%?

Very good read SO. Although I enjoy playing OU, I enjoy reading about UU more. ^_^ Although it was a bit one sided, I liked the different approach and reasoning for posting this WS. I've never seen Lumineon in play before, and surprisingly, it did something. Thanks for posting!

Great warstory and great rain dance team, you should give dd Lapras a test run in it (dd+raindance+waterfall=pancakes "i love pancakes").You get mad props for using Toxicroak hes a beast in uu.by the way what was his last move crosschop?

After reading this warstory, my opinion of Parasect has changed once again. It was actually a nice favorite of mine back in the R/B days, but come Yellow and beyond, I had tossed it to the side as utterly useless.

Now I want to use it again.

@ Towlie, Dry Skin restores 12% of health per turn under Rain dance.

@Greenlantern: I've used DD Lapras many times before, I usually use it in my UU vs. OU battles, so I'm well aware of its destructive potential.

Toxicroak's final move was Brick Break, I'm afraid I tend to shy away from high power, lower accuracy moves as they have a nasty habit of missing at the most crucial times.

@ everyone else. Thanks for the kind comments.

Wow, loved your team. Great to see Dewgong, Parasect and Lumineon in the same match.

That was an awesome battle, great story... it was really easy to read; loved the way you formatted the colors.

Congrats on the win.

Nice battles, I love reading UU battles, since OU is the same shit over and over. I bit one sided, but nice win.

Parasect and lumineon were cool, I had never thought they had so much potential in UU/NU

One thing I'm confused about, though, I thought that Hydration didn't cure status caused before the rain started, but that might just be Leaf Guard. The battle was pretty one-sided, and Lumineon is LOL, but that was a pretty nice battle, and I like UU.
