[OVERVIEW]

Kabutops is a strong offensive Water and Rock-type with varying coverage or setup options depending on the team or the ability it uses. It also has pivoting capabilities with the likes of Flip Turn, which coming off of a strong Attack and decent Speed provides Kabutops with the versatility of being a solid Choice Scarf user. Additionally, Kabutops can threaten common defensive cores containing slow and bulky walls due to its wonderful offensive typing and being faster than most of the common defensive pokemon in the metagame. Best of all, its outstanding offensive typing, strong STABs, access to Swords Dance, good coverage, and now joining the mix - a boost in Speed thanks to Swift Swim, makes Kabutops a devastating sweeper on Rain teams. However, Kabutops is naturally frail and revenge killed by common Choice Scarf-users such as Togedemaru or Passimian, as well as it isn't particularly fast versus offensive threats without a Choice Scarf or Swift Swim boost. Additionally, Kabutops also fails to break through defensive answers like Jellicent or Vaporeon without proper prediction or heavy damage prior. It also faces stiff competition from the likes of Basculin, who not only is a faster Water-type with access to Flip Turn, but carries the wonderful Adaptability-boosted attacks.

[SET COMMENTS]
With access to Swords Dance and Swift Swim alongside Rain-boosted STAB, Kabutops can actively sweep weakened teams. Stone Edge is the hardest hitting attack at Kabutops's disposal versus defensive answers like Vaporeon or Jellicent, as well as dodges Flame Body potential from Talonflame or OHKOing Arctovish. Aqua Jet is a great form of priority in order to pick off weakened offensive checks such as Togedemaru or Archeops. However, Psycho Cut allows Kabutops to break through Fighting-types who are not fearful of either of Kabutops's STAB attacks such as Virizion and especially Toxicroak, who not only is immune to Water, but even recovers damage in Rain thanks to Dry Skin. On the other hand, Superpower is Kabutops's strongest coverage move and is great for hitting defensive answers like Ferroseed. Outside of Rain, Weak Armor is another option for Kabutops in order to provide potential Speed boosts versus physical attackers like Talonflame U-turning. However, Kabutops is incredibly frail and requires setup and team support in order to break through its defensive checks. Virizion is an amazing partner, as not only does it handle all of Kabutops's common checks like the aformentioned Water-types, but it's able to punish Talonflame effectively. Mesprit is an outstanding teammate because it can provide Rain Dance support, resists Fighting, is immune to Ground, and can bring in Kabutops safely via U-turn or Healing Wish.
