THE IRON CHEF HEADLINES
. . . . . . .

IRON CHEF COUNT GOES BACK TO FIVE AFTER SEVERAL EPISODES

The Iron Chef count has returned to five after several episodes of activity issues for some of the Iron Chefs. By virtue of winning two cumulative episodes of Iron Chef, Manipulative has offered a spot to become an Iron Chef, and became the first contestant of this episode to take on the reins as Iron Chef--the second contestant to do so after former Iron Chef LilOu .

While he was a contestant during the second season, Manipulative was the first to beat four Iron Chefs that brought his first win in the first episode of Iron Chef; since then, he became an active participant. Afterward, he struggled to win the succeeding episodes because the teams submitted were mostly of standard fare; however, he was the participant who garnered the Best Tasting Dish awards in seven episodes. It was the last episode of Iron Chef with the secret ingredient revolving around at least two Pokemon with the ability Regenerator that brought to life a modern twist to a traditional Stall build by adding a splash of VoltTurn into his team, which ultimately won the hearts of the Iron Chefs for the second time.

Will the newly debuted Iron Chef Manipulative launch a Massive Attack over all those who participate in this season of Iron Chef?

Chef ChilliTacos challenged me and lost in a good game. Though I never managed to hit three Hurricanes which made Moltres in a tight position early in the game, I managed to get his Cresselia in a difficult position to predict when to use Moonlight and when to use Psyshock. Unfortunately, he made a wrong move and used Moonblast on my Mega Beedrill and gained my opportunity to KO with U-turn in that range.

Chef King Troller challenged me in his debut match and lost in a good game. While there was one move that literally caught me off guard, the rest of his teammates were weakened enough for Moltres to finish his team off.

Chef Jetstertsyko challenged me and unfortunately lost. I took advantage of his lack of a key element in his team which ultimately sealed the game for me. Good game, though!

presented by Chef Incognito Style

When the secret ingredient was revealed, Swampert immediately sprung into Chef Incognito Style's mind as it provided his team with a Stealth Rock setter and a phazer through Roar. Drapion came next after Swampert, as absorbing Toxic Spikes in the field, resisting Grass attacks for Swampert, providing Toxic Spikes were huge additions for his team at a point where he consequently added Whirlwind to force a Pokemon out, to get succumbed by damage from Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes if not handled properly. Kyurem and Hitmonlee was then brought up to deal as much damage as possible on both spectra, with the latter serving as a Rapid Spinner to get rid of Stealth Rock that would trouble Kyurem badly. Doublade was then added to cover Kyurem's weaknesses, and finally went to Mega Sceptile to serve as a (shaky) check to Ground-types and to handle most Bulky Waters especially Suicune.

presented by Chef BrandonBeast

Chef BrandonBeast's team was built around Articuno; while outclassed by the other brethren from the Legendary Bird trio, Articuno's nifty traits such as having insane special bulk, Freeze-Dry, and Roar gave BrandonBeast an idea on how to support it. Chef BrandonBeast ultimately decided to incorporate hazard stacking to take advantage of Articuno's Roar; he immediately brought up Tentacruel to serve as a reliable switch-in against Fire attacks and as a hazard remover for Articuno to come in safely, to break down Special walls with Acid Spray, and to set up Toxic Spikes. Sableye was the next Pokemon to fit into the team that can serve as a blocker to any move an opposition would use to remove hazards away such as Rapid Spin (by virtue of Ghost typing) and Defog (by virtue of Prankster-boosted Taunt), while serving as a great check against Fighting- and Psychic-types and as a Pokemon that would cripple key offensive and defensive threats. Metagross was then added to set up Stealth Rock, to provide a good offensive presence with Life Orb equipped, and to provide a good answer to Fairy-types and to revenge kill Alakazam. Chesnaught provided the team more hazards in the form of Spikes and more force-outs with Roar, and served as an answer to Gyarados and other Bulky Waters thanks to Spiky Shield and Wood Hammer. Finally, Dragon Dance Salamence with Intimidate served as a win condition for his team because of its many set-up opportunities that would clean up the opposition easily late in the game.

presented by Chef Jetstertsyko

Chef Jetstertsyko brought up Roar Nidoqueen and Circle Throw Pangoro as the main ingredient for his team. Roar Nidoqueen was chosen to set up Toxic Spikes and to deal as much damage in the Special spectrum as possible, while Roaring away any Pokemon that would potentially set up at her. This premise was the same when he chose Circle Throw Pangoro--this time, dealing as much damage in the Physical spectrum. He also brought up Forretress to set up Toxic Spikes and then using Explosion whenever its HP is running low. Zapdos was then added to provide Electric moves for the team. He chose Blissey for healing the team from status and possible damage. Finally, he chose Beedrill to destroy any Fairy and Grass Pokemon standing in his way.

When the secret ingredient was revealed, Chef King Troller thought that it will definitely work on Stall teams; thus he built his team on Substitute + Calm Mind Chandelure and Taunt Cobalion. Mega Abosmanow served as a (shaky) answer to Suicune and Salamence that would plow over his whole team apart. Vaporeon was then added to provide healing for the whole team from status and possible damage. presented by Chef GXS

Chef GXS's team contained Absol (in base form) with Perish Song and Pursuit to induce irritating mind games with the opposition. His thought around forcing an opposing Pokemon out is to remove the choice of switch from them--being damaged by Stealth Rock (from Swampert) upon entry. He then accompanied it with a splash of VoltTurn from Zapdos (through Volt Switch), Whimsicott, Infernape, and Beedrill (all through U-turn) to gain momentum once the right Pokemon being preyed by Absol's Perish Song and Swampert's Roar has been exposed.

presented by Chef ChilliTacos

Chef ChilliTacos wanted to put pressure on the opponent with hazards and force the opposition out with Chesnaught, Nidoqueen, or Goodra until they are weakened enough allowing Calm Mind Cresselia and Curse Goodra to take them out. He started off with Curse Goodra with Dragon Tail to avoid being set-up fodder and to force a Pokemon out to be succumbed by hazards afterward. He then went with Florges to provide healing for the entire team from status and other possible damage. While Chesnaught provided the team with Spikes, Nidoqueen provided the team with Stealth Rock. Both of these Pokemon have Roar to take advantage of the hazards laid on the opposition. Mega Blastoise served as a reliable switch-in to Fire attacks, most notably Entei, and as a hazard controller through Rapid Spin. Finally, he added in Cresselia which served as a main win condition for using Calm Mind, while provided the team a Psychic resist and a Ground immunity.

Creativity: Euphonos - Ah, I've never seen someone using such sets before.
Use of Theme: Euphonos - He managed to use the secret ingredient very well as it served as an integral component to his team.
Effectiveness: Euphonos - Knowing this person, he doesn't bring out anything that wasn't truly effective in the first place, and this team is no exception; while having some creative touches, it translated to its effectiveness quite well!
The community has until
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 29, 7 AM EST

the most awe-inspiring,
the most essential,
and
the best-tasting

Allez, cuisine!

Creativity: Goes to GXS, with Perish Song Absol, expert belt offensive whimsi, and scarf Ape. Plus, all the VoltTurn.
Use of Theme: ChilliTacos, with an absolute metric fuckton of phasing.
Effectiveness: I'll fill this in later, possibly abstaining because I'm bad at judging if a team is good XD
