Pet Mod Eramons [Slate 5 - Industrial Revolution and Apocalypse Eramons] (Submissions Open)

Approved by the Pet Mods staff

:celebi:Eramons:dialga:

Eramons is focused around the creation of a Gen 9 micrometa where mons are sorted into different "eras" based on broad strokes of real-life historical time periods, as well as speculative fiction about the future. Akin to a Monotype meta, every Pokemon on your team must be from the same era. However, we plan to populate each era with a healthy amount of diverse options from the entire dex, as well as the star attractions of this pet mod, Eramons!

What are Eramons?
Eramons are similar in nature to regional forms or convergent Pokemon from the newest games. They are Pokemon that are significantly different to how we know them now, shaped by the period of time they came from. In design, they're a halfway point between a regional form and a convergent mon. They will have different yet similar names from the Pokemon they were based off of and may have an entirely different type, but they will not need to be a different species from the original and may keep one of its original types. Created by the community, there will be at least 3 new Eramons for each era to help diversify teambuilding options.

List of Eras
Below are a list of eras in the mod. There are currently 8, but additional eras may potentially be added as time goes on.
  • Prehistoric :tyrantrum::mamoswine::armaldo:
  • Early Civilization :cofagrigus::sigilyph::stonjourner:
  • Medieval :aegislash::samurott-hisui::perrserker:
  • Age of Exploration :quaquaval::malamar::dhelmise:
  • Industrial Revolution :weezing-galar::rapidash::sandaconda:
  • Present Day :meltan::porygon2::magneton:
  • Far Future :clefable::porygon-z::celesteela:
  • Apocalypse :garbodor::dragapult::guzzlord:
Slate Structure
We'll start by taking two eras that don't yet have any mons - so for the sake of example, Medieval and Wild West - and focus the slate on them. The first phase of the slate will focus on Returning Mons. After submitting up to 6 existing Pokemon (3 per era) into one of the two eras of the slate, the top 6 for each era will be voted in. These Pokemon:
  • Must have their movepool pulled from their most recent appearance in a main series game (SV>SwSh>BDSP>USUM), with moves and abilities that no longer exist in SV removed
  • Can add or remove up to 50 points to their BST, as long as BST stays within 50 of what it originally was
  • Can have one of its abilities replaced by an existing one
  • Can have one move added to its kit for every move not labeled as Usually useless or lower by Showdown.
After that, the second phase of the slate focuses on New Eramons. Users submit up to 3 Eramons for a Pokemon that does not currently exist in their era of choice, with the top 6 voted on being added to each era, making for 12 new additions. Designing an Eramons let you change a Pokemon much more drastically, such as:
  • Can change one of or both types
  • Can freely redistribute stats as long as BST stays the same
  • Can swap out and replace any of its abilities
  • Can freely change its movepool
  • Can add one custom element, in the form of either one new move or one new ability (no new field effects or the like, and make it reasonable to code)
This slate structure will continue until every era has at least 12 mons and 3 Eramons. Once that happens, the Returning Mons phase will instead vote in 1 mon for each era, while the New Eramons slate will allow 3 mons to be voted into any era, although more popular eras will be excluded to give less popular eras more love as slates progress. As the meta progresses, more Eras may be added if the playerbase desires or the council decides a need for more.

Submission Templates
List your changes next to the mon's original data for easier reading.
Fields marked with a * should NOT be changed from the original mon.

Pokemon*: (List the name of the Pokemon here.)
Era: (List the Era you wish to submit this Pokemon to here.)
Type*: (List the Pokemon's typing.)
Abilities: (List all of the Pokemon's ability/abilities. Remember to replace abilities that no longer exist as of SV.)
Stats: (List the Pokemon's stats and BST. Label buffs if made.)
Move Changes: (List every move you would add and remove from the Pokemon's most recent movepool. Remember, Dexit'd moves that do not exist in SV are removed by default.)
Role: (List the Pokemon's intended competitive role on a team.)
Era Justification: (Justify why this Pokemon and the changes you made to it should be added to the Era you're submitting it to and how it affects the meta as a whole. Good competitive/balance reason obviously matters a lot, but we are also looking for strong flavor justifications for why this Pokemon fits the theming of the era it is being submitted to as opposed to another. Whether due to its typing, design, Pokedex entries, etc.)

Slate 1: Shoulders of Giants
Welcome to the first slate of Eramons! To start things off, we should choose some eras to begin populating and determine the power level of the meta. But which eras to choose? Well, all great ideas are built upon the foundation of our forefathers. Standing atop the shoulders of giants and reaching to the heavens...

This slate will be focused on the :stonjourner: Early Civilization and :porygon-z: Far Future eras! To help further elaborate on each and give some relevant themes...

:stonjourner: Early Civilization encompasses anything relevant to the civilizations of early man, like Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, Ancient Rome, Mesopotamia, etc. You could hone in on creatures of myth and legend, landmarks left behind, or relics lost to time.

:porygon-z: Far Future is even looser in its definition than periods before it, as by its nature, the future is unknown. Will the future see unparalleled technological advancements? Will we explore and conquer the final frontier of space? How will Pokemon evolve alongside the changing world? We're not considering exactly how it all comes crashing down, that's for the era after this one...

The above are simply guidelines to help give a creative jumpstart. They are not strict paradigms your submissions must fall under, although straying too far from the era's concept and themes are grounds for vetoing a submission, at the council's discretion.

Slate 1 - Returning Mons Phase
With our eras locked in and what they could feasibly include in mind, submissions for Slate 1's Returning Mons phase are officially open! Check the OP for comprehensive information on how to submit for this phase. This phase will last for one week, closing on the 19th. Vetoes will be given the same day, with 24 hours being given to make the required changes. After that, voting will officially start and last for three days. The top 6 submissions for each era will be added, and the New Eramons phase will start soon after.

Good luck!

Move Changes:
+ Slack Off, Tar Shot

- Baton Pass, Blizzard, Counter, Fire Blast, Quick Attack, Thunder, Toxic
Era Justification: A Pokemon of myth that has been said to accompany disasters. It is said to live in the mountains away from civilization. I wouldn't be surprised if people were to tell stories of the rare appearances of this Pokemon, and for it to be mentioned in parables and legends from ancient times.

Move Changes:
+ Aura Sphere, Earth Power, Hurricane, Thunderbolt, U-Turn
- Dark Pulse, Flash Cannon, Psycho Cut, Steel Wing, Toxic
Era Justification: Its Gen 6 Pokedex entries refer to it as "guardians of an ancient city". Due to its "totem pole-like appearance" as described by Bulbapedia, this ancient guardian could be potentially attributed to one of many ancient cultures.

Move Changes:
+ Freeze Dry, Ice Beam, Icy Wind, Recover
- Foul Play, Night Shade, Poltergeist, Stored Power

Move Changes:
+ Aura Sphere, Overheat, Volt Tackle
- Calm Mind, Grass Knot, Toxic
Era Justification: A mysterious being that has been known to feed on the energy from Power Plants. Maybe in the future humanity learns to harness this Pokemon's power as an energy source for our long-term survival. (Also don't worry about it having Tail Glow apparently that got removed from its kit between Gens 7 and 8).

:sv/tapu koko:
Pokemon: Tapu Koko
Era: Early Civilization
Type: Electric/Fairy
Abilities: Transistor/Telepathy (Transistor replaces Esurge)
Stats: 70/115/85/95/75/130
Move Changes: +Play Rough, -Toxic
Era Justification: Deities represented by totems and masks were pretty common during early eras. Electrics and Fairies that make sense for this era also seem a bit more on the rare side, so this adds a really solid option for these. Obviously very good offensively, especially with the physical buff making special sets less dominant, but can also offer fast utility with Fog and Screens and Roost/Taunt/Pivoting always being nice options as well. Not much to say, it's koko, it does koko things, it's always a nice mon to have around for a lot of teams.

Pokemon: Stonjourner
Era: Early Civilization
Type: Rock
Abilities: Magic Guard
Stats: 100/125/135/20/60/80 (+40 Special Defense, +10 Speed) [520]
Move Changes: +Superpower/Triple Axel, -Earth Power/Power Gem
Era Justification: It's bloody Stonehedge! Magic Guard does give it a more useful ability while still referencing its mystical nature, as does its added Special Defense (while also not dying to an Water Gun from a Squirtle lol). Triple Axel is mostly for coverage, but it could reference Britain's rather chilly winters.

Abilities: Flash Fire
Stats: 55 | 80 | 80 | 135 | 120 | 100 [BST= 570]
Move Changes: +Calm Mind, -Nasty Plot
Competitive Role: Chi-Yu but more manageable bc it doesn't have a cracked ability
Era Justification: Ruin quartet take inspiration from Chinese mythology

Metagross - Far Future Era
Type
:

Abilities: Clear Body, Filter
Stats: 80 | 135 | 130 | 95 | 90 | 70 [BST= 600]
Move Changes: +Knock Off, Superpower, - Sludge Bomb, Stealth Rock
Competitive Role: Far future theming tends to lean toward special-stat mons, so here is a physical stat stick instead. Speed is cut quite a bit in exchange for more bulk, and makes it a potential tr sweeper - if that doesn't pan out, it can always click the bullet punch
Era Justification: Is a big robot guy, and described in the Pokedex as having supercomputer-level intelligence

Stats: 55 | 80 | 80 | 110 | 120 | 100 [BST= 545] (-25 SpAtk)
Move Changes: N/A
Competitive: Chi-Yu with a crippled SpAtk to be more manageable
Era Justification: Ruin quartet take inspiration from Chinese mythology

Metagross - Far Future Era
Type
:

Abilities: Clear Body, Light Metal, Filter
Stats: 90 | 135 | 130 | 100 | 95 | 50 [BST= 600] (+10 HP, +5 SpAtk, +5 SpDef, -20 Spe)
Move Changes: +Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Knock Off, Superpower, Thunder Punch, - Stealth Rock
Competitive: Far future theming tends to lean toward special-stat mons, so here is a physical stat stick instead. Speed is cut quite a bit in exchange for more bulk, and makes it a potential tr sweeper - if that doesn't pan out, it can always click the bullet punch
Era Justification: Is a big robot guy, and described in the Pokedex as having supercomputer-level intelligence
No need to moderate but....you need to follow the rules (even if they are rather strict)
-No stats can't be lowered, only raised.
-No abilities can be added, only replacing them.
-You need to sacrifice another 4 extra moves for Metagross in order for it to have its added options.
-Small nitpick, but Competitive analysis isn't added to the list.

Being completely unable to lower any base stat from returning mons is a bit limiting imo. My bad for not really paying attention to the sub rules but this one specifically should be reviewed for future return slates
This was somewhat discussed in the Discord, and for the time being we're leaving the rule as-is. We're open to looking into changing it in the future if it proves too limiting, but we'll give it time first.

Additionally, for the sake of clutter, plus keep conversation within the Discord rather than the thread, especially if we're not currently in a discussion phase. Thank you!

Pokemon: Skarmory
Era: Ancient Civilization
Type: Steel/Flying
Abilities: Sharpness/Sturdy (Hidden Ability: Weak Armor)
Stats: 65 HP/90 ATK/140 DEF/40 SP ATK/70 SP DEF/100 SPD = 505 (+30 SPD, +10 ATK)
Move Changes: +Sacred Sword (level-up), +Psycho Cut (egg move), -Spikes (level-up), -Air Cutter (egg move)
Era Justification: Of course my favorite Pokemon of all time is the first submission I make to this new favorite pet mod of mine lol. That being said, though, this knifebirb actually does have every reason to show up in the ancient civilization era, with multiple dex entries stating that its feathers were once used as sword blades in ages past. Its very design also has the feel of a fantastical monster from an ancient artwork, and metallic birds do show up surprisingly often in ancient mythology - the Stymphalian birds of Classical legend are the most famous example. To top that off, there are even a few appearances in flashbacks to ancient times in several of the anime series episodes and movies where Skarmory appears as a weapon of war.

Pokemon: Noctowl
Era: Ancient Civilization
Type: Normal/Flying
Abilities: Insomnia/Keen Eye (Hidden Ability: Tinted Lens)
Stats: 100 HP/50 ATK/50 DEF/106 SP ATK/116 SP DEF/70 SPD = 492 (+20 SP ATK, +20 SP DEF)
Move Changes: +Calm Mind (level-up), +Expanding Force (Move Tutor), -Reflect (level-up), -Night Shade (Move Tutor)
Era Justification: Owls have had a lot of significance in culture and folklore since ancient times. The association of the owl with wisdom, which Noctowl plays off of, is probably due to the fact that the owl is one of the symbols of Athena in Classical mythology, rather than the owl itself being smart as modern media has often portrayed. Other cultures portray it as an omen of either fortune or misfortune depending on the location, but either way it's hard to deny how ubiquitous this clade is in both folklore and real-life. Plus I couldn't not sneak in a reference to Mumei lol

Pokemon: Celesteela
Era: Far Future
Type: Steel/Flying
Abilities: Beast Boost
Stats: 97 HP/101 ATK/103 DEF/107 SP ATK/101 SP DEF/61 SPD = 570 (No change)
Move Changes: N/A
Era Justification: it's literally a friggin' rocket ship with "celestial" in its name, do i have to write a novel about this

Pokemon: Guzzlord
Era: Far Future
Type: Dark/Dragon
Abilities: Beast Boost
Stats: 223 HP/101 ATK/53 DEF/97 SP ATK/53 SP DEF/43 SPD = 570 (No change)
Move Changes: N/A
Era Justification: It may not look like it, but this thing is based on a black hole. Not only were black holes only recently discovered, but they have been a staple of many futuristic science fiction works, most famously Interstellar which takes place in a post-apocalyptic time period but is more about space travel than a ruined Earth. I could alternatively move this choice to the Apocalyptic era but it could certainly fit the Far Future as well!

Pokemon: Porygon-Z
Era: Far Future
Type:

Abilities: Adaptability / Download / Protean
Stats: 85 / 80 / 85 (+15) / 135 / 105 (+30) / 90 | 580 BST
Move Changes:
+ Aura Sphere, Flash Cannon
- Recover, Toxic
Era Justification: An artificial Pokemon, could justify it being Modern but I think Porygon2 fits that aesthetic better. Gave it some bulk to work with as a slower potential Protean mon, probably locks it into Scarf sets but it already hits stupid hard with that SpA stat.
