DP Steelix .

Steelix was moved down to UU and has only OU counters listed. Most of the basics are still the same, but there are a few things to note.

[Counters]

Bulky Water types can switch into Steelix and hit with STAB Surfs. Blastoise can also Rapid Spin away any Stealth Rocks on the field.

Grass types can switch into Steelix with their Ground resistance and use Leech Seed or special Grass attacks. Claydol does not fear most varieties of Steelix and can proceed to hit it with Earth Power or spin away any rocks Steelix may have set up.

Probopass has the ability to trap Steelix with Magnet Pull, though it cannot switch into Earthquake. However, should it come in, it has the ability to Magnet Rise to stop Earthquakes and Taunt to prevent being Roared out. It can then kill Steelix using Earth Power.

Steelix will have trouble sponging most strong special attacks, but potential counters need to be wary of Steelix Exploding.

Drifblim and Sableye should get somewhat of a mention. Both immune to explosion, sableye has taunt and knock off to pretty much kill off the defensive walling capabilities of Steelix as well as can do some of its own stuff on steelix. Drifblim can actually will-o-wisp steelix, although he is immune to his 2 most common attacks. He also can sleep and stat up on steelix while he sits there. Bannette may also need mention because of this.

And interesting counter I found to Steelix was Clefable. Takes no damage from stealth rock, can protect through explosion, and can easily encore stealth rock which allows you to actually bring in anything, even pokemon countered by steelix, and set up with them. You also can choose to fire blast steelix if you go down that route.

BP+roar Leafeons can beat Steelix's Roars to the punch with their own Roars due to being faster and have a chance staying alive against its explosion (unless it goes adamant and slaps on a boosting item) while SD sweeping ones 2hko steelix with ease after a SD and have a chance of OHKOing steelix if it chs with leaf blade.

Drifbilm is a ok counter but needs to be wary of potental rock moves or the rare thunder/ice fang from steelix when coming in.

Drifblim and Rotom are both immune to EQ and Explosion, but Rotom makes a slightly safer switch, not being weak to Stone Edge. Then they can Will-O-Wisp Steelix and even stall him until he dies from burn damage.

Rotom is weak to the rare crunch but other than that its resists or is neutral to everything steelix could throw at it

Solrock and Lunatone (the former especially), while almost never used, also deserve a mention for access to WoW, and the ability to wall the standard set.

If you don't mind mentioning BLs, Mismagius is also immune to EQ and Explosion, and sets up right in its face.

These are all pretty good counters, but I'm considering the point at which to stop. Like Skarmory, Steelix is a Pokemon easily countered, it's more valuable for its defensive power than anything else. Also using sets involving Crunch or Gyro Ball give problems to a lot of the Pokemon listed. Frankly most teams should be able to stop Steelix one way or another without really trying.
