Now we come to naming our amazing Fairy/Fighter!

If you are inspired by the winning art design and have come up with a good and unique name you'd like the CAP to be known by, please submit your idea here and we will put it up for a vote against all other users' ideas. Final submissions must conform to the submission rules, so please read them carefully. Breaking the posting rules can also result in disqualification.

RULES:

Legal name submissions must meet the following standards
  • Names must start with a capital letter.
  • Names cannot be longer than 11 letters.
  • Names can only contain the following characters:
    • Letters A-Z
    • Numbers 1-9
    • Dash (-)
    • Apostrophe (')
    • Period (.)
    • Space
  • No more than two capital letters can be included in the name, and capital letters cannot be consecutive.
  • A maximum of two non-letters can be included in the name, and a maximum of one non-letter of each type can be included (ie. You can't have two numbers, or two apostrophes, but you could have one number and one apostrophe)

Names will not be slated if they are completely unrelated to the design, silly names (puns are fine), names based primarily on memes, or names meant to inflame, intimidate, or cause controversy.

WIPs
Work In Progress (WIP) Names can be posted at any time for comments from the community.

No more than three WIP Names can be posted by any individual person through the entire course of the submission thread. This limit applies to ALL posts made by a single person, even if previous posts are edited or deleted. This limit is intended to curb the tendency for some submitters to spam the thread repeatedly with lists of Names. This detracts from other submissions and makes it difficult for commenters to survey the submission thread.

Do not bump your WIP names by posting them repeatedly, or making minor spelling changes of a letter or two. Bumping will result in the disqualification of all names by the offender. Editing or deleting bump posts will not prevent disqualification.

Final Submissions
Only ONE Final Submission can be made per person. Any Final Submission that does not follow the proper format will be disqualified.

Name Final Submissions can only be posted after a CAP Moderator posts in the thread announcing that final submissions are open. Any Final Submission posted prior to the Moderator announcement post will disqualify the submitter from the poll entirely. Even if the offending post is edited later or deleted, the submitter will still be disqualified for the remainder of the thread. This ensures that there is some time for discussion and that all submitters have equal opportunity to post Final Submissions without anyone unfairly "jumping the gun".

Please make a new post after the CAP moderator announcement for Final Submissions. Do not edit a previous post prior to the announcement to make it a Final Submission. All posts prior to the announcement post will be ignored for purposes of making the Name Poll.

Final submissions must provide one sentence (25 words maximum) explaining the etymology of the name.

Final submissions must provide a common English pronunciation. The common pronunciation can be made in whatever format you feel best conveys the pronunciation to most English speakers. (You may optionally also provide an IPA pronunciation. For information about IPA and processing words into IPA read this guide: IPA For English. There are also numerous phonetic translation tools online that can help.)

Format
Name Final Submissions must be posted exactly in the following format and in the following exact order:
  • The first line of the post must have the words "Final Submission" in bold on its own line. No other text may be included before the bold heading.
  • A blank line
  • The Name submission in bold.
  • A blank line
  • A one line description of the etymology of the name or why it is appropriate for our Pokemon. (25 words maximum)
  • A blank line
  • "Pronounced: <common English pronunciation>"
  • "IPA: <IPA pronunciation>" (optional)
Below the Final Submission you can post other comments, explanations, etc.

Example final submission:
Final Submission

Syclant

A combination of "Icicle" + "Ant".

Pronounced: "SICKLE-ant"
IPA: sɪkəlænt

This name was originally submitted by Lawman on the very first CAP project. It is simple, elegant, and easy to pronounce (even if you are pronouncing it wrong), which is why it was chosen as the official name for CAP1!

CAP22 so far:

Typing: Fairy/Fighting
Abilities: Natural Cure / Aroma Veil
Stats: 84/78/86/115/88/119

Art Design:

Leadership Team:

cbrevan
- Topic Leader
Elite Lord Sigma - Typing Leader
snake_rattler - Abilities Leader
Snobalt - Stats Leader
Deck Knight - Movepool Leader

Concept:
Name: Last Act of Defiance

General Description: A Pokemon that is defined by its use of the move Parting Shot.

Justification: Parting Shot is another move that's pretty amazing on paper, but its true usage has yet to be fully explored because it's only available to Pangoro. Pangoro is not the most viable Pokemon OU and is nearly unusable in CAP due to its 4x weakness to Fairy. Moreover, when I've used it in RU (prior it to being banned) and UU, I found myself clicking an attacking move more often than not. With the optimal Parting Shot user in the CAP metagame, we may be able to tap into this move's potential and figure out how it is best utilized. Maybe Last Act of Defiance will be a fast Pokemon that aims to keep up offensive momentum. Maybe it'll use the move like it would use Memento to help a teammate use a boosting move. Maybe it'll be a slow, bulky pivot intended to discourage switching. Maybe it'll do something completely different.

This falls under both actualization and archetype in terms of being a concept. In terms of actualization, it will teach us how to use Parting Shot "properly." Clearly, no other Pokemon, not even Pangoro, comes close to it. Well, users of U-turn, Volt Switch, and Memento come somewhat close, but even then, we'll be able to see what makes Parting Shot different from (and possibly better than) them. In terms of archetype, Last Act of Defiance will give not just the CAP metagame, but also the whole game of Pokemon, a utility Pokemon that we've never seen before, as Parting Shot was not (and still isn't) one of Pangoro's most important assets. Because Parting Shot has so many potential uses, a utility Pokemon such as this can be the ultimate team player for offensive and defensive archetypes alike.

Questions To Be Answered:
- Whether it's pivoting, offensive momentum, Memento-esque support, or something else, what is the "ideal" way to use Parting Shot? Why?
- Considering Pangoro rarely finds the time to use the move, how much should a Pokemon be willing to sacrifice another offensive option for Parting Shot?
- What makes Parting Shot different or similar from Volt Switch, U-turn, and Memento?
- Pangoro is definitely not the ideal Parting Shot user, so what does the ideal user look like?
- What strategies, whether they be certain Pokemon, playstyles, or other factors, will rise to prominence to combat a Parting Shot user?

Shinelf

Shine(r) + Elf

Pronounced: SHINE - elf

Reasoning: Shininess is usually associated with fey creatures, such as elves, which explains the fairy typing. Elves are sometimes known to lead forces in battle, and when they do fight in stories, they are valiant fighters that use magic to bedazzle their opponents. The design looks like it might have received a shiner in one eye (a shiner is a term for a hit in the eye, or a black eye), and 'shiner' is also incorporated into the name. It explains the fighting typing. It doesn't really convey parting shot that much, though elves are known pranksters and tricksters, and I guess Shinelf my want revenge for his shiner, but is too hurt to do anything except well weird things at them? Use your imagination.

Scufflefluf

It's Scuffle + Fluff.

Prounounced: Scurry + Scuffle + Fluff

"Scurry" references CAP22's high speed, "Scuffle" is a reference to its Fighting-type and adorable Fairy-type nature, and "Fluff" is a reference to its design and its Fairy-type.

Pillowtok

Pronounced: Pill-LOW-Tock
IPA: ˈpɪl oʊ tɔk

(Pillow + a corruption of talk, with KO spelled backwards. "Pillow Talk" is considered inappropriate in the wrong setting, like Parting Shot's taunts.)

Why not scuffleluff, or scuffluffle?
WIP

Slumbrawl

Slumber + Brawl

Pronounced: SLUM-brawl
IPA: slʌmbrɔːl
That just makes it sound like you're making people from slums brawl though...

Tournequilt

"Tourne" (French for "turn", referencing Parting Shot) + "Quilt" (blanket. "to quilt someone" is an Australian colloquialism meaning "to punch someone"). Also a corruption of "Tourniquet".

Pronounced: TURN-eh-qwilt
IPA: tɜːrnəkwɪlt

I like this one a lot because it incorporates a cool double-meaning as well as reviving a cool piece of archaic slang that just fits way too well with the concept to pass by.

WIP

Repruvet

"Reprove" (to reprimand or admonish: Parting Shot) + "Duvet" (bedsheets).

Pronounced: re-PROO-vay
IPA: rəpruːveɪ

Another cool, vaguely French-sounding one. Wanted to use "duvet" or "doona" in one of these portmanteaux so here we are :)

Sill-ow

It's a pillow and it looks damn silly. But don't you dare point that out, or the reaction will be painful. ("Ahah, you look sill... ow!). Too bad exclamation marks aren't allowed...

Koo-shin

Behind this seemingly random kung-fu-sounding name lies the word "cuscino", which is Italian for pillow, of course.

The pronounciation is pretty straightforward for both.

Slapperfish

Banned deucer.
WIP

Wollipillow

A portmanteau of "wallop" (to hit very hard) and "pillow". Is also a palindrome, referencing how dakimakuras often have images printed on both sides.

Dakimakaura
A portmanteau of "Dakimakura" and "aura".

WIP

Lullabash

Portmanteau of lullaby + bash.

Pronounced: lull - ah - bash
IPA: lʌləbæʃ

I can imagine this Pokemon sneaking up on people about to fall asleep (or perhaps waiting for them to fall asleep on its body) before rudely waking them up with loud noises or a thorough pummelling before running away laughing. Also sounds a bit like "unabashed", which makes sense as this CAP would definitely not be embarassed by what it says / does.

Flufforce

Fluffy + Force
Pronounced: Fluh-FORE-es

Feedback is appreciated.

WIP

Cufluffle

Pronounced: Cuh-FLUH-ful
Cuff (meaning punch) + Fluff (relating to pillows and fairies) + Scuffle (meaning fight), corruption of kerfuffle

Silverbackkap I know our names are a little similar, but I think that we came about them in different ways and the spelling (which reflects that) is different enough for separate submissions.

WIP

Pillowcass

Portmanteau of Pillowcase (The covering of a pillow) and Cassius (as in the late Cassius Clay, aka. Muhammad Ali).

Pronounced: Pill-oh-KASS

WIP

Boxie

Bok-see
Combination of Box (as in Boxing) + Pixie.

Ruckush

Ruhk-ush
Combination of Ruckus and Cushion.

WIP
Pillowcha:
pillow + lucha (fight in spanish)
Pixion: pixie + cushion
almoharate: almohada(pillow in spanish) + karate

WIP

Waisofluffy

Based from Waifu + Fluffy and
"Why so fluffy?"

Fussipilo
Fuss + Pillow + Fussy Pillow

Mimifluff
Meme + Mimi (a slang word to sleep) + Fluff

Napsack

A combination of "Nap" (to sleep) and "Sack" (many meanings including bed, hitting someone, and a bag).

Also considering a spelling variation "Napsock", which although only one letter difference brings in the hitting element maybe better with "sock" being slang for punching someone. But I tend to think "sock" as something you wear on your feet, and that's why I really don't like it for this.
