Background 1: Bozo was discovered during Maxim’s journeys in Paldea. He, along with Don the Tatsugiri, formed a pair known as the Bozo Brothers, who became naturalized to human food and were quite the hassle for picnickers throughout Paldea. RP Segment 1

The beach: a perfect relaxation spot for humans and Pokemon alike. For Water Pokemon in particular, it's one of the few places where they're able to stretch their fins and swim freely.

Upon arrival, you release your two Pokemon from their Poke Balls. Next, you set up a beach towel and umbrella upon a nice scenic spot on the sand. Finally, you lie back and watch your Pokemon frolic in the waves...

But what's this? A few yards away, you notice a swimmer limping out of the shallows with a cut across his leg! It looks like he might've accidentally cut himself on some glass or sharp rock. Although it's only a minor injury, you feel like your conscience might bother you if you don't at least offer some assistance to this fellow beachgoer. Surely with two capable Pokemon at your side, there's something you could do to treat him?

Maxim to respond.

Ah summer, the time when everyone takes time to frolic in the sunshine and the beaches. The trainer Maxim, exhausted from his Battle By Post duties, has decided to take a hiatus from battling and being a referee, and to focus on relaxing for a while. One day, he decided to book passage to a faraway tropical paradise to be a beach bum for a while. Little did he know his break from battling was going to be short lived.

Normally, Maxim is found in his fur coat, complaining that even relatively warm places are freezing. Today however, he has taken some appropriate attire.
"Ah, this is it boys, the sea."

In tow are Don the Tatsugiri and Bozo the Dondozo. Maxim lives far inland, so a vacation to the beach is a paradise indeed.

:Dondozo: ("Yeah, but when do we eat?")
:Tatsugiri: ("Yeah! I'm really craving some crab dip!")
"Crab dip?! How does that work with you being...oh never mind. You two have fun in the ocean, I'm gonna sunbathe here for a bit."

The two Pokemon shrug. Don goes over near the shore and puffs his sac and assumes a resting position. Bozo meanwhile is sent straight to the ocean, and has a blast swimming around in the salty sea. Maxim sets up an umbrella and blanket, ready to rest...
============================
Before he can get very much rest however, Don notices a problem.

:Tatsugiri: ("Uh boss, there's a problem.")
"Ah shush, I don't got time for problems."
:Tatsugiri: ("I'm serious, I think there's somebody bleeding here. I think they got cut by a glass shard, they're having a hard time getting out of the water.")

Maxim sat up to verify the situation himself. Sure enough, a swimmer, having a nasty cut on their leg, is stumbling on the shore.

"Do we really need to..."

Just then, a flash of a memory long forgotten enters Maxim's mind.

"Look, do we really need to get involved here? Those goons are crawling all over the place! We'll never get out alive if we take this many on at once."

[Maxim from years ago] "Of course we need to help! The Kommo-o, Hakamo-o, and Jangmo-o are going to get hurt if we do nothing. We have to save them, no matter what it takes. Don't worry, I've got a plan. If we use Nora's Heat Wave here, then..."

"Right, let's go help him. I need you two to tend to him while I get the first aid kit. I think I saw one over by the Crab Shack."

:Tatsugiri: ("You heard him. Here, clean his wound with a Water Gun.")
:Dondozo: ("Righto boss!") Starts charging a powerful Water Gun as if in battle
:Tatsugiri: ("GENTLY.")
====================
:Dondozo: Bozo the Dondozo tries to clean the wound with a gentle Water Gun
:Tatsugiri: Tatsugiri waits until Maxim returns with the first aid kit, and gives a Helping Hand to Maxim's efforts to bandage the mysterious swimmer.

Bozo washes blood and dirt off of the swimmer's leg. Now that you can get a good look at the cleaned wound, you notice that the cut is surprisingly narrow and deep -- more similar to a cut that would be made by a well-sharpened knife than by a stray piece of ocean debris. The swimmer shrugs it off.

"I didn't see what got me. What happened was, I swam into the path of a particularly strong current and felt something scrape by me. It's no big deal. Whatever it was, a discarded bottle or something, it'll just wash ashore eventually."

You apply a bandage to the swimmer's leg, which Don pats down securely. The swimmer thanks you. Then he excuses himself to rest in the shade of the Crab Shack.

Success! +2 RPT.

Immediately you are greeted by a spirited young man.
"I was impressed by the way you handled that situation. You have a lot of experience working with Pokemon, right? Yeah, I knew it. That look in your eyes when you sprung into action, like something lit up inside you... I've only seen that a couple times, and only from really tough Trainers. Well, I came to this beach planning to take a break from battling, but if I see a strong Trainer like you, then obviously I have to battle them!"

Battle Segment 1 begins in the next post.

"Go, Sigilyph! Show them how hard we've trained!"

Maxim to send out and order.

"Huh, that sure is a deep cut, I wonder if there's a Veluza in the water..."

Maxim didn't have much time to think about that though, as he finds himself accosted by an Ace Trainer.

"Wait what?! No wait I came here to get away from battling don't---"

But Daniel the Ace Trainer was heedless of Maxim's whining, already sending out his Sigilyph to begin battle.

"Rats, I must've locked eyes with him. Bad old Route rules and all. I guess I can spare one more battle. Bozo, you're up at the plate! Don, get into position."

The Tatsugiri dutifully assumes battle position inside Bozo's mouth. Even having seen it plenty of times, Maxim still has trouble getting used to one of his Pokémon eating another. Still, this was the strange biology of Tatsugiri and Dondozo that made them a potent pair of adversaries.

:Dondozo: ("Let's see how you deal with the Bozo Special!")
:Tatsugiri: ("All right, we'll need to make sure to avoid...Imprison and Hypnosis. It's kind of refreshing to fight something with as many moves as I have for once...")

Sending out Bozo the Dondozo.

The foe's Sigilyph struggles to keep itself aloft amid the onslaught of crashing waves. As a last resort, it hastily bends the fabric of spacetime in an attempt to divert Don's attack around itself. The effort is futile. The attempted move fizzles. Sigilyph faints. Yet, a shimmering singularity hovers in the air, an artifact of Sigilyph's interrupted technique, like a paper crease left by an origami practicioner's sloppy mistake. The air near it stagnates, trapped in time.

Sigilyph's Gimmick 2 activates. Effect: Change the field to Trick Room for 1 Round. The challenger cannot initiate a Switch Phase immediately after the ref applies this effect.

"Well, this isn't great. Better get back here so that Bozo can come in."

Maxim tries to return the Tatsugiri to the ball, but the distortion in space bends the beam in another direction. Frustrated, he tries again and again, but the beam is bent everytime. Maxim is finally persuaded to stop attempting to return Don to the Poké Ball when one beam "returns" Maxim's beach blanket.

A thick silence then permeates the air for a few seconds.

RP Segment 2

The battle finished, you hunker down on a beach towel to start applying some Super Potions to your tired Pokemon. You're surprised to see that the Ace Trainer does not do the same; rather than healing his own Pokemon, he's wandering off somewhere. You ask him if he forgot to bring healing items (you have extra if he needs them). "No," he says. "I'll heal them in a bit, I just gotta take care of something first. Uh... see you around!" Strange, but sure thing.

You spend the next few minutes applying medicine to your Pokemon. Once you're finished and your Pokemon are in tip-top shape, you finally make your way to the Crab Shack, where you once again run into the Ace Trainer. He's holding in his hands three large plates of crab meat. As he meets your gaze, he looks at you with the expression of a child who's been caught digging through a cookie jar. "Sorry, bud. I saw that they were about to run out of food, so I grabbed the last three plates for me and my Pokemon to eat. And just in time -- this place is all sold out now. Although, I see the beach staff is setting up more crab traps over by the sandbar. Maybe if you help them out, they'll comp you some of their catch?"

You're just about running out of patience with this inconsiderate Trainer, but the grumbling of your stomach reminds you that your main concern is finding something to eat. Surely your Pokemon are hungry after their tough battle, too. But with the Crab Shack closed, how are you going to get you and your Pokemon fed?

Maxim how will your team respond?

"Huh, normally when I say I'm about to win I get an instant dose of karma and lose. Ah well, good game!"

Maxim wanders back to where his beach umbrella is, removes his beach blanket from Don's Pokeball, and starts healing his team. Good thing he always keeps a healthy supply of medicines handy for times like this. Just as Maxim is wrapping up, he notices that Daniel has not been healing his own Pokemon.

"Hey, do you need some healing items? I've got plenty in my bag."

"No, I'll heal them in a bit, I just gotta take care of something first. Uh... see you around!"

Kind of odd, but it wasn't any of Maxim's business at this point. Now, it was time to finally rest and relax on the beach. Just lay down and soak in the sun with absolutely no problems to worry about.

*grumble grumble*

Unfortunately, Maxim's stomach had other ideas. Letting out a long sigh, he gets back up, and gets his Pokemon ready for dinner. Bozo, due to his size, had to stay in the Pokeball, but Don was small enough to let out. Maxim lets down his hand, and the Tatsugiri flops onto Maxim's shoulder, then the pair walk over to the Crab Shack for some grub. Just in time to see Daniel come out with some enormous plates of perfectly steamed crab legs. Maxim decides to enter the restaurant, but bonks into the locked door instead.

Maxim, a little bit annoyed at this point, walked off in a huff. He knew that, sadly, the Crab Shack was the only casual restaurant for a significant distance. The other restaurants in the area were fancy resort restaurants that were too expensive for Maxim's budget. Even then, Don and Bozo were very messy eaters who probably would not be welcome at said restaurants for long. As the trainer walked away, Don's eyes see the seafood, and he futilely reaches for the food, whimpering a bit when it is clear that he is not going to get any. Maxim went over to the beach, and then he released the Dondozo and the Tatsugiri into the water.

"Sorry guys, grub's gonna have to wait. I'm going to go over there and see if I can help these fishermen catch some crab and maybe figure something out. You two play here for a bit and I'll be back in a jiffy."

Maxim then walked away, leaving the pair of Pokemon to their own devices. A bad idea on any day, and an even worse one when both are hungry.

:Tatsugiri: ("Say Bozo, let's say we get some grub eh?")
:Dondozo: ("But Maxim said he'd be back with some food.")
:Tatsugiri: ("Bah! Those crab baskets take hours to catch anything. We'll starve long before then!")
:Dondozo: ("STARVE! Oh no what are we gonna do? I'll have to eat sand to stay alive!")
:Tatsugiri: ("Hmm, let's see here...")

The Tatsugiri scanned the beach to see if he could find something specific. Sure enough, he found Daniel, with three untouched plates of crab, milling about the edge of the shore. Don thought he saw Daniel calling someone on a cellphone, but couldn’t tell for sure. Don smiled, an evil plan hatching in his head.

:Tatsugiri: ("I've got it. You see that jerk over there, the one we battled earlier? How about we help ourselves to his meal?")
:Dondozo: ("I dunno boss, Maxim said it wasn't nice to steal...but I'm too hungry! What the plan?")
:Tatsugiri: ("The plan is...to get some sweet sweet revenge on that trainer, and get some grub in the process.")

Dondozo, at Tatsugiri's request, sneaks up to Daniel in the water, then uses Supersonic (move) at a high pitch to frighten and confuse the Ace Trainer.
Tatsugiri uses his experience in stealing food (background) to hatch a plan to steal food, then sneak up to the plates of food and steal them before Daniel can get a grip on his situation.

The Ace Trainer pockets his phone. Next, he sets his three plates of food onto a picnic table. Eager and hungry Pokemon jostle inside the Pokeballs attached to his belt. "Alright, alright," he assures them. "Calm down, there's enough for everybody." But as he reaches for his belt's release latch... EEEEE!! a loud and shrill noise pierces his eardrums, causing him to fumble the Poke Balls onto the ground. The Trainer becomes frustrated. He sighs. He gets on his hands and knees and crawls under the table to retrieve his fallen Poke Balls. "I am just this close to packing everything up and heading home," he mumbles. Above him, Don uses his tail to smack the three plates of crab sideways, sending them flying through the air like delicious frisbees.

---

You arrive at the fishing spot to see a commotion in progress. Someone who looks to be a chef is arguing with the fisherman.
"If this is a joke, then it isn't very funny. How am I supposed to run a seafood restaurant without any food to serve?"
"I don't know what to tell you, man. I've never seen anything like this happen before..."

The fisherman pulls another metal crab trap out of the water. It's been sliced cleanly in two.

---

You return to your Pokemon empty-handed, so you don't understand why they're grinning at you. Bozo opens his mouth and reveals three towering plates of crab legs hidden inside -- the spoils of a heist gone right.

One plate for each of you. How convenient! Bozo swallows all his food (and the plate!) in a single gulp. Don appears as if he's trying to do the same; he fails only due to his size, certainly not from a lack of effort. Sadly, you're the only person here with some table manners. You deftly crack a crab leg open and pop the tender meat into your mouth. Aside from the lingering waft of Dondozo breath stuck to it, it's obviously high-quality meat.

"Enjoying your meal, villain?"

You turn around. A Palafin looms over you, scowling, arms crossed.

:palafin: "I was alerted to your mischief by a civillian who witnessed your devious acts first-hand."
:dusknoir: "It's true! They stole that food right out from under -- (above?) -- that poor guy's nose!"

Don raises an eyebrow in puzzlement. He was sure that there weren't any witnesses. Could he really be so out of it that he'd be noticed so easily? As for you... well, you probably assumed something like this was going to happen from the outset. But maybe you'll still have a chance to talk your way out of this?

:palafin: "By my fist, justice will be served!"

...Or maybe not. Fight time!

Maxim could not help but be disappointed. Disappointed by his Pokemon who could not sit still for ten minutes while waiting for Maxim to get food. Disappointed with his failure to secure any food due to some Pokemon deciding to play Whack-a-Diglett with the crab baskets. Disappointed with the day in general.

Maxim decides to search the beach to see if he can find Daniel and return the plates of food. Well, two of the plates...nope, one plate. On failing to find the Ace Trainer, Maxim looks at the plate of food he's been given. Today has been a rough day for him, and on a day he wanted to rest and relax no less! That Ace Trainer was not very considerate either, he thought, taking all the last plates of food and leaving none for Maxim and his Pokemon. Surely he deserved some rest after all this. Surely, taking one plate of food would not harm anyone, long term anyways. Greedily, Maxim reaches for the crab, having decided to eat the ill-gotten gains after all.

The very second he cracks a leg of crab though, a shrill voice calls out to him "Enjoying your meal, villain?" Frightened, Maxim throws his hands in the air and shouts "I'm sorry officer I'll never do it again I'll..." Turning around, he sees not a police officer, but a Finizen.

:palafin: ("I was alerted to your mischief by a civillian who witnessed your devious acts first-hand.")
:dusknoir: ("It's true! They stole that food right out from under -- (above?) -- that poor guy's nose!")
:Tatsugiri: ("What the heck? Have I been losing my touch? WHERE DID YOU COME FROM???")

Maxim lets out a deep sigh. "Look, surely we can talk this over?" he says. The Finizen is having none of it though, saying "No act of evil goes unnoticed on my beach!" and assuming a combat position.

"You have got to be kidding me. All right you two, to your stations."

Almost immediately after being assuming a battle position though, the Dondozo lets out a string of nasty words. This is unusual for Bozo, and Maxim and Don are both left speachless.

Sending out Bozo the Dondozo.

Commander: Dondozo Special! (Attack Aid, Defense Aid, Mixed Aid)

:palafin: "By the beard of Neptune, I don't believe those words are fit for print! My mother always told me that if you foul your mouth with bad words, then the cleaner shrimp won't want to go near you."
:dusknoir: "Actually I think whales prey on shrimp."
:palafin: "Then all the more reason for you not to swear!"

:palafin: Palafin: Astonish > Astonish > Astonish
