[B101 2014] Regarding Tutee Tournaments

Ojama

Banned deucer.
The battling 101 staff has noticed that tutee tournament activity has been on the decline for a while now, and it's understandable why this is so. In order to try and encourage more activity and participation, we're going to be doing a few things
  • Media Integration: Tutee Tournaments aren't very well advertised which is why there may not be as much participation as we'd like. To fix the problem, we'll be working with media organizers on Smogon to post news of the tournaments on Smogon's Facebook page and the like to encourage people to join and follow the action. Winners will also be announced on Smogon media venues to let everyone know what a particular tutee has accomplished. All in all, we intend to bring tutee tournaments more publicity. When a winner is determined, their accomplishment will be made known on Smogon's front page and elsewhere to celebrate. Right now, there isn't much publicity for the winners, and we intend to fix this by letting everyone know what our tutees have been up to in whatever way possible!
  • Offering prizes: While bringing more publicity to tutee tournaments and its winner is our primary concern, winners (and runner-ups) will receive one of the prizes we're trying to decide would be best to give out. Among these include a custom title, one of the fancy banners such as the one displayed on many profiles of community members, and more that is yet to be decided before the program starts up again come January 2014. Hopefully these little incentives will encourage people to take part in these tutee tournaments more and give them something to look forward to upon joining the program.
  • Sign-ups: Back in the early days of Battling 101, the sign-up template had a section where tutees had to answer whether they would be interested in joining the tutee tournament or not. We will be bringing this back. If there is enough interest during a particular round, we will host a tutee tournament, and if there's not, we'll hold it off. Right now, we don't do this and simply hope enough people sign-up. This hasn't been working and often times it takes more than a week to get 16 people to participate. Directly asking tutees in their sign-up post whether they'd like to participate in the tutee tournament after the end of a round will give them something to look forward to after they're done being tutored and are looking to put their newly learned skills to the test.
That's all we have to share with you guys in regards to tutee tournaments. We hope you enjoy these changes and wish you all a happy holiday!
