Since it was brought up in smog disc what is council's general view on Kartana
It's pretty sharp.
Yes. People who hate pineapple pizza are just shitty contrarians.
With SwSh massively changing the landscape of the meta, what are you thinking of the new mechanics, as well as stuff like the Dex cut affecting OU? Also post thoughts on the Dex cut in general.
Not a fan of the Dynamax mechanic - I think it emphasizes the issue with Z Moves greater because every move is a Z Move for 3 turns. I'd be lying if I said I look forward to it.
Dex cut doesn't bother me too much. Something to consider with the dex cut - it's difficult to not only create new Pokemon and keep the other ones in the region in some capacity that's created, but it's also difficult to balance everything with them. Sure, you have your usual shitmons like Maractus, but I'm hoping that by cutting down on the dex they solve issues that I personally have such as the major BST differences between some Pokemon and helping to push Pokemon that were borderline good (like Nidoking) a bit more into the scene with a BST boost. We'll see how things develop over the next few months.
For those of you who’ve played earlier iterations of OU (dp/rs/bw), what is your favorite? Easiest/hardest to get into?
I love spectating GSC. I think when you spectate it live and neither opponent is bringing some headass Baton Pass it's intense.
I've played DPP on up. I haven't touched a lot of ADV nor RBY OU, but my thoughts on ADV was I liked Ubers a bit better with it. Otherwise, I think DPP is easy to get into once you understand some of the mechanics with it (Explosion being stronger, lead matchups, knowing a bit more what could be on a team, etc), but the problem is it's arguably one of the worst metas to play IMO because of how much variance the meta actually has. I've grown to like BW more over time - I think weather was a good thing to keep in spite of others saying they weren't a fan of it, and I think some of the recent things the BW Council has done was for the better.
If there’s one thing on Smogon/PS you’d want to implement, what would it be? (Friends lists don’t count!)
Removal of the current chat system and finding a way to integrate with Discord instead.
I know such a request is probably unlikely, but low key I detest Showdown's chat system and I think if Discord chat replaced it I would be more inclined to log in.
Any underrated movies/TV shows/animes/books/other media to share?
We of the OU Moderating team are against anything with anime whatsoever and request those who do watch it to stop. That said I have spoken to one JoycapJosh and he has recommended everyone interact with Sword Art Online. I do not recommend this.
At the request of one of my friends I've been watching Sunny in Philidelphia. While it kind of teeters perhaps into pissing off PC people, I think there are some funny moments. I think it's due to Danny DeVito and actual music from Rick Astley being used in the show though.
u guys like to practice any sports in ur free time?
Bullying you is a sport and part of my free time. ;/
later in the generation, many people r thinking sm is stale or too matchup dependant. thoughts on these claims?
I think there's some merit to matchup dependent, but I don't think SM is too stale. I feel there's a lot of variety in teams and, while some things do repeat and re-occur, we've seen evolution within the metagames in multiple ways. Think back all the way to first SM, now current, and look at someone like Kartana for example. We've seen it being a gimmick choice during Metagross-era, more usable after Pheromosa ban, Swords Dance picking up steam prior to USUM, then we have Choice sets thanks to Knock Off tutor, and finally we have Z Move Kartana that's used for utility purposes. I don't really think it's too stale at the moment, but I can at least understand where people think there's some matchup dependencies.
overall, how is moderating such a big forum like ou like? y'all ever get burnt out? i know i would!
It's not bad. I think one thing that helps is the collaborative effort from the remaining teammates. I think that's what makes moderating important - knowing that you as an individual have specific limits, and using all of your collective strengths to your advantage. Burnout is very real - mostly it's caused by real life, tilt, or just stress from other individuals. Still, I think the group handles it well and we all get along and care for each other.
Except Leo. Fucker steals diamonds.
But we still love him.
Tits but let's spin this in a different method:
Would you prefer a PB&J, Peanut Butter Sandwich, or a Jelly Sandwich?
To me both compliment each other in their own unique way. The real answer, however, is and always will be eyebrows. The thiccer the better.
Would you rather fight a horse-sized duck or a hundred duck-sized horses?
Duck-sized horses are just Shetland Ponies.
Favorite Pokémon (in general)?
Tyranitar. It's a Pokemon that has a lot of things going against it, but in spite of its drawbacks it's a Pokemon that has shaped a lot of metagames or has been a significant contributor to it. Also love Gyarados.
In-game, Nidoking.
Favorite team of the generation? Current favorite?
While the user in question is banned, I really enjoyed the Hyper Offense team made by Shaka during Dugtrio or MMeta tests (don't remember which). I liked it a lot because, while it was purely a hyper offensive team, it had a lot of interesting things for its time. One example is Focus Sash Hoopa-U - where Magician can be a huge contributor to screwing over a Pokemon such as (at the time) Scarf Garchomp. It also was a team that used Sash Excadrill and (IIRC) Sash Greninja, which were metagame staples for specific team compositions for a while.
I'd say the iconic SPL Stall from this generation was a low key favorite too. In a way, the team was an interesting puzzle box because there were solutions for it (Alolan Marowak could overcome it, but Pursuit Dugtrio could stop it), and it was probably the team that helped prove how powerful Arena Trap was for the time.
Who is the person you respect the most on Smogon?
There are definitely a lot of people I like and respect, but (while it's a cop out and he certainly has his flaws), I have to say it's one
Finchinator . That isn't to say some people champion such things better, but Finch has always been the one person who I've seen help countless people in various tiers and just a huge help around Smogon. Dude has a big heart - maybe to his detriment sometimes.
That said, I've interacted with many people outside of the OU community and more into, I guess one could say, cliques and I have people I highly respect over the years. So I assure you - Finch isn't the only person.
Tele can't even post quality porn.
Forget this, just please tell Tele to look for porn more interesting than vanilla 240p. Like what did he get it from, his flip phone in 2007?
How did you guys come up with your names?
Good question. Originally,
years ago, I used to have a lot of fun with Megaman Battle Network. If you didn't know, I tried submitting folders for the time for BN6. Eventually, I got some of my folders recognized in the Alphabatized "Renowned" folders, in particular with the N Code. While some like J, S, and a few others like F were very strong codes, N was unique. It had NeoVariableSword, NumberBall, and (perhaps my favorite) Airplanes! The name was stupid I admit, but cmon I was probably like 16 or so at the time and couldn't think of anything else.
Long story short - I really liked Colonel from the series so it stuck to me.
I think I have a soft spot for the GSC series, and was really a huge fan of HGSS. I think they were remade perfectly and appealed to me in various ways. BW2 is a runner up.
Maybe ORAS? I think ORAS's main storyline was okay - Archie and Maxie were cool, but the lack of the Emerald Battle Frontier was a huge blow to the game.
Leo. He recommended me to watch Sword Art Online too.
Probably me. Actually, that's not really a contest other than maybe Finch.
GMars tries but he's a softie.
Do you think that more Pokemon should have been suspect tested in OU?
I speak outside of Mods and Council, but personally I think it would have been better to have some more suspect tests in OU. I think the problem was when certain Pokemon seemed to get out of hand, they settled down in the dust again and didn't become problems until later.
What is your favourite ingame team from any game?
GSC - Nidoran Male Spearow Totodile Mareep. Probably can do without one of these, but these 4 usually handle just about anything thrown at them. HGSS can have Gyarados in here somewhere if you want and Spearow can be replaced with something else (Kenya is really good though).
What is your favourite non-Pokemon game?
Age of Empires II, Fire Emblem
For C&C I think aldaron and co. were just super drunk one night and thought I could ruin an entire forum in a short timespan.
For OU I think it was due to some knowledge at the time with things and having a hand with C&C helped.
As far as others becoming a mod? First, try not to be too pushy on things. One problem I always see with people is that they try to shove themselves in to become a mod. It's best to get integrated with the community, get involved with the Pokemon scene in various ways, try to avoid falling for what I like to call "pitfalls" (okay I kind of stole that from Mekkah), and just work hard. I think Leo and GMars (Jordy too) are great examples of people who've worked very hard and we weren't exactly on friend terms per se (I think Leo hates me).
What are some of your favorite wallbreaking cores to use on a team and why?
When it was relevant, I really loved Mega Garchomp. I think it's an example of a really cool wallbreaker with potential utility with Stealth Rock. Mega Garchomp seeing usage in USUM was really great to see. I know that's not really a core, but a specific Pokemon is still nice to mention.[/quote]
whose the shittiest user u met
Probably The Iron Kenyan.
Probably The Iron Kenyan.
who do u hate on this site
Edgelords other than
eden .
Have you ever used Mega Charizard Y? If so, what were your experiences using it and would you recommend others to use this pokemon? If not, why haven't you used it?
I liked Zard Y a lot more during Dugtrio's reign of terror in USUM. With Duggy Zard Y was such a massive dick to a lot of teams, and Lati@s wasn't the hardest to get by at the time either. Now? Nah, it's not the worst, but hard to justify it IMO.
