  1. Metagame SS OU Metagame Discussion (Usage stats in post #944)

Nah man, fun is extremely relevant. Fun is the whole reason we're playing showdown instead of cart. Smogon attracts a certain type of player - one that finds competitive, skillful games fun. It's ideal to discuss gameplay in terms of competitiveness and skill because it keeps our discourse...

Passing you a competitive team that uses the new Eject Pack item. Plus, it's DUAL WEATHER and packing heat. https://pastebin.com/raw/S07Vh9XX
  3. Metagame SS OU Metagame Discussion (Usage stats in post #944)

The new Eject Pack items seems really interesting/good with weather setters in tandem with moves that lower stats (like Superpower). Basically it acts as a strong one-shot U-Turn, giving you momentum and allowing you to safely bring in weather sweepers. Abomasnow @ Eject Pack Ability: Snow...
  4. Pokémon Eiscue

It's a good idea, but likely lacks enough power to sweep. At +2 it has 568 attack, which is the same as scarf Darmanitan. Darmanitan of course has better coverage and doesn't need to rely on their opponent to boost them, so I'd rather use it than WP Eiscue. Perhaps it will see use in a lower tier.
  5. Metagame SS OU Metagame Discussion (Usage stats in post #944)

Sure, but it's quite skewed. The power level of Dynamax far exceeds the power level of defensive counterplay options. The person who clicks the dynamax button is almost always the one with the advantage, even if their move was predicted. For what it's worth, I don't think people would dislike...
  6. Resource USUM OU ULTRA Viability Ranking Thread

Snorlax's pursuit is pretty weak. It does around 27% to Heatran, 23% to Greninja, and 18% to Tapu Koko, which is rarely enough damage to actually matter and not worth dedicating an entire member of your team to. It's not strong enough to OHKO common Psychic types after rocks (does ~75% if they...
  7. Metagame Partners in Crime

Here's something fun: if you pair two mat block users with two prankster users you can stall with mat block repeatedly. Add in u-turn and you can slowly chip away at your opponent while being invulnerable to damage. https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen7partnersincrime-671747670...
  8. Metagame USUM Memetagame Discussion was a mistake

Florges seems pretty slept-on as a defogger. It's as bulky as Mantine (read: VERY SpDef bulky), and walls a lot of the same Pokemon like Zard Y, Keldeo, and Specs Gren. Unlike, Mantine, it's not weak to Electric or Rock, which is pretty huge, and it can act as a cleric with Aromatherapy/Wish as...
  9. Resource USUM OU ULTRA Viability Ranking Thread

Kartana -> A+ This is the only mon in A to have had a buff, and wow, is the buff quite good. Knock-off is so easy to spam and makes switching into Kartana hard as ever. It's very punishing in general - you're punished if you scout it, and you're punished if you try to pivot. It's a very easy...
  10. Metagame USUM Memetagame Discussion was a mistake

Please make your Naganadel decision soon, council. Anyway, let's talk about Araquanid. I'm liking it a lot right now - better than Shuckle, actually. There are lots of teams out there that have trouble with its offensive presence, and it loves how common Pokemon like Heatran, TTar, Landorus...
  11. SPOILERS! Stakataka

Wow, I completely misunderstood this mon. It's not defensive at all, rather, it's 100% an offensive sweeper. Bring it in on something that can't KO it, go for trickroom, then proceed to go ham on the opponent's team. Rock/Steel may not be good defensively, but it's pretty good offensively...
  12. SPOILERS! Blacephalon

I've been using that set with substitute as the 4th move. Unfortunately it's not very good at the moment. It's too hard to set up, and even at +1 SpA it just's not powerful enough to KO everything it needs to. Not to mention how common Tyranitar is.
  13. Metagame [SPOILERS] ULTRA SM - Speculation & Discussion

Assumptions are being made that webs in USUM will play exactly like webs in SUMO did; that is, using a single suicide lead and being 100% dependent on getting webs up early and keeping them up. I think that's a highly reasonable assumption, but it's nowhere near fact. Players may very well...
  14. Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Battle Mechanics Research (Read Post #2)

I went through that page, the original thread, and several pages of google before posting. The move is not completely understood, and there are still conflicting reports about how it works. For example, the original thread mentions it activates when the previous move was blocked by a type...
  15. Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon Battle Mechanics Research (Read Post #2)

Stomping Tantrum is viable on Lycanroc so I'd like to make sure the mechanics are 100% understood. Does Stomping Tantrum double when the users's previous attack gets blocked by psychic terrain? Does Stomping Tantrum double when the users's toxic gets blocked by misty/electric terrain? Does...
  16. Metagame [SPOILERS] ULTRA SM - Speculation & Discussion

Blacephalon: Mind Blown has more utility than one might think. It can be used to activate berries, can be used to regain momentum (like explosion), and it has such high base power that it even dents offensive TTar. It's perfectly accurate too, and that alone can give you a reason to run it...
  17. Metagame NP: NU Stage 0 (Beta) - Bring The Noize (Cofagrigus is Banned)

I really want to see people using Brick Break to counter Aurora Veil. There are lots of Pokemon that can learn it.
  18. Metagame SM Ubers General Metagame Discussion

I've been running substitute on Marshadow to good effect. It eases predictions quite a bit (which is important when your STABs have immunities), but also allows you to steal the boosts of Pokemon that try to set up in front of you. For example, if Xerneas is sent out and you're certain it's not...
  19. Format Discussion Pokemon Sun/Moon Random Battle sets

Muk-Alola is missing Pursuit. Reason for inclusion: 80% of Muk sets use Pursuit. It's included on every Smogon spread.
  20. Pokémon Pheromosa

I agree. Choice Scarf doesn't do anything to check +1 speed Pheromosa. However, what a Choice Scarf does achieve is preventing Pheromosa from checking its holder. Consider Scarf Latios vs Life Orb Pheromosa. Latios cannot revenge kill +1 Pheromosa, but at the same time +0 Pheromosa cannot...
