OU Tornadus-T (Revamp)

power

uh-oh, the game in trouble
[OVERVIEW]

Tornadus-T is a situational pick on more balanced teams that require its combination of good Speed, a useful typing, and strong Flying-type STAB attacks, which allow it to check Pokemon such as Kartana, Tapu Bulu, and defensive Landorus-T. Although it is vulnerable to Stealth Rock and all forms of status, Regenerator gives it the longevity to continually check these threats throughout the course of the game.

Moves
========

Hurricane is Tornadus-T's strongest STAB move, and it offers excellent coverage because most Pokemon that resist Flying-type moves in OU are worn down quickly, such as Magearna and Tapu Koko. When used with Flyinium Z, it turns into a devastating 185-Base Power Supersonic Skystrike that allows Tornadus-T to blow through common Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Clefable. Knock Off is an excellent utility move for Tornadus-T, removing Leftovers from common Pokemon that resist Flying-type moves such as Zapdos, Celesteela, and Heatran, as well as items from common special walls such as Ferrothorn, Toxapex, Assault Vest Magearna, and Chansey. U-turn allows Tornadus-T to serve as a pivot, switching in on Pokemon it can scare out such as Tapu Bulu and Kartana and then using U-turn to pivot safely out as the opponent brings in a check. Alternatively, Superpower can be used with a mixed attacking spread to give Tornadus-T the power to nail common Stealth Rock users such as Heatran and Mega Tyranitar. Defog is a useful utility move for Tornadus-T, clearing entry hazardsfor its teammates and completely shutting down Pokemon such as defensive Stealth Rock Landorus-T that Tornadus-T completely walls. Taunt lets Tornadus-T more easily break through walls such as Toxapex, but Tornadus-T already struggles to fit all the different moves it would like to use. Nonetheless, Taunt is certainly usable, and it can be used with either Flyinium Z or a Life Orb. Heat Wave is a neat option instead of U-turn; however, it does a pittance to Celesteela without a Life Orb, and both Celesteela and Ferrothorn are quickly worn down once Leftovers are removed. While lacking U-turn leaves Tornadus-T quite vulnerable to Tyranitar, forgoing Knock Off or Defog is undesirable.

Set Details
========

The given EV spread maximizes Tornadus-T's Speed, allowing it to serve as a fast utility check for balanced teams while letting it hit as hard as possible with Hurricane and Supersonic Skystrike. A Timid nature preserves Tornadus-T's natural bulk; Tornadus-T uses Knock Off and U-turn for the utility, so the extra damage output that comes from a Hasty or Naive nature is unnecessary. If using Superpower, a spread of 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe with a Naive nature gives Tornadus-T the power to 2HKO bulky Mega Tyranitar, OHKO Choice Band Tyranitar after Stealth Rock, and 2HKO offensive Heatran after Stealth Rock. Regenerator is Tornadus-T's only ability, but it is an excellent one, giving Tornadus-T the longevity to continually switch in through the game and fire off strong attacks. Flyinium Z is the preferred item so that Tornadus-T has the ability to fire off a strong, accurate nuke when it needs to. However, a Life Orb is certainly usable and lets Tornadus-T throw out consistently strong Hurricanes. A Life Orb should generally be used with a Naive nature to take advantage of Tornadus-T's strong Life Orb-boosted Knock Off while preserving physical bulk for threats such as Kartana.

Usage Tips
========

Tornadus-T is best used as a utility check to Pokemon such as Kartana and Landorus-T as well as a Defog user for balanced teams that don't mind a single layer of entry hazards but appreciate the situational Defog to remove multiple layers when playing against hazard-stacking teams. Using U-turn against Pokemon that can't significantly dent Tornadus-T such as Assault Vest Tapu Bulu and defensive Landorus-T lets Tornadus-T rack up Regenerator recovery and quickly heal off any damage it takes. Because of Tornadus-T's high Speed, it can use U-turn after using Defog to clear away particularly troublesome hazards such as Toxic Spikes from Toxapex. This lets it bring in a sweeper safely, even if Tornadus-T cannot beat those hazard setters one-on-one. Use Team Preview to effectively identify which Pokemon Tornadus-T should expend its Z-Move to defeat, as once Supersonic Skystrike is used, Tornadus-T struggles to break through common Pokemon such as Clefable.

Team Options
========

Bulkier Pokemon that appreciate the Speed and set of resistances that Tornadus-T brings to the table such as Toxapex are excellent partners. Toxapex also can set up Toxic Spikes, helping Tornadus-T break through checks such as Tyranitar far faster. Strong, bulky wallbreakers such as Choice Band Zygarde are also excellent partners . Zygarde in particular appreciates Tornadus-T's ability to use Defog to clear away Toxic Spikes and U-turn to bring in Zygarde safely on Pokemon it scares out such as Toxapex. Good checks to Tapu Koko such as Ferrothorn and Assault Vest Tapu Bulu are also great partners for Tornadus-T.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Assault Vest is a notable alternative for Tornadus-T, as it gives it the bulk to scout against Pokemon such as Greninja thanks to the aid of Regenerator. However, it is generally subpar, as Assault Vest Tornadus-T is rather weak and struggles to put a dent in common defensive Pokemon. Assault Vest Tornadus-T also cannot use Defog, which removes a significant chunk ofits utility. Finally, Assault Vest Tornadus-T cannot effectively scout against Pokemon such as Greninja while Stealth Rock is on the field, which makes this set even more difficult to use and far less useful.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Tapu Koko and Other Fast Offensive Pokemon**: Tapu Koko is one of the best offensive checks to Tornadus-T. Roost sets are particularly dangerous, as they can quickly heal off anything it throws at Tapu Koko. Pokemon such as Weavile and Ash-Greninja cannot switch in, but they scare Tornadus-T out with the threat of Choice Band Icicle Crash and Choice Specs Hydro Pump, respectively. Weavile can also use Pursuit to eliminate a weakened Tornadus-T.

**Zapdos and Celesteela**: Zapdos and Celesteela shut down Tornadus-T, as it struggles to put a meaningful dent in either of them. While Tornadus-T can remove Leftovers from both and wear them down quickly with the aid of Stealth Rock, Tornadus-T is completely walled in a one-on-one situation and a single misprediction allows them to heal with Roost and Leech Seed, respectively.

**Bulky Entry Hazard Setters with Recovery**: Pokemon such as Toxapex and Chansey can keep entry hazards up against Tornadus-T. However, Tornadus-T can bring in a partner safely without exposing it to any entry hazards, as well as remove any layers of Spikes set by Pokemon partnered with the aforementioned Pokemon.

Its nice speed tier, good typing, and reasonable bulk allow it to serve as a utility check, a Defog user, and valuable speed control for various bulky teams.
I'm fine with this overview but from now on don't forget that this has to be in bullet point format too
Hurricane is Tornadus-T's strongest STAB move, and offers excellent coverage by itself.
Expand a bit on this
If so, a spread of 40 Atk / 216 SpA / 252 Spe with a Naive nature gives Tornadus-T the power to 2HKO bulky Mega Tyranitar, OHKO Choice Band Tyranitar after Stealth Rock, and 2HKO Offensive Heatran after Stealth Rock.
This bullet is fine but move this last bit to Set Details
Good checks to Tapu Koko such as Ferrothorn and Tapu Bulu are also great partners for Tornadus-T.
Specify AV Bulu here

Analysis looks good otherwise, nice job 1/3

  • Clicking U-turn on Pokemon that can't significantly dent Tornadus-T lets it rack up Regenerator recovery and quickly heal off any damage it takes.
reiterate 1 or 2 examples here
  • Use Team Preview to effectively identify which Pokemon Tornadus-T should expend its Z-Crystal to defeat, as once Supersonic Skystrike is used Tornadus-T struggles to break through common Pokemon such as Clefable.
1 more example here along w/ clefable would be good if you can

Consider adding Heat Wave to OO.

Add Koko to C&C and other faster attackers like Weavile that are able to check torn and force it to rely on its teammates, especially since you mention mons that check koko as good partners in team options

QC 2/3

Banned deucer.
your analysis has literally no mention of pokemon using choice scarf or priority to scare out / beat tornadus

you should add some because theres a billion examples, gren shuriken, scizor bp, zyg espeed, medi lop fake outs, sucker punches

scarfers include keldeo lele gren kart landt w stabs or appropriate coverage moves

there is also no general bulky mons section (you have limited it to hazard setters currently), things like spdef rachi with wish can wall forever and only loses lefties in the process, av gear also threatens torn out and takes little from any move even with its vest knocked, mantine and rotom are also pretty annoying but lose lefties too

scarfers cant really touch fat teams which is the shit that torn-t nearly always resides on, i can mention sciz bp and zyg espeed but neither ohko and sciz takes quite a lot from z move, especially after switching in on a hurricane, lops a faster mon so like its under that umbrella, the only sucker punch user is mawile which is a worthy target but you cant really touch maw anyway

tornadus-t has way too many checks and counters to list them all so in the interest of brevity i limited it to hard counters like zapdos + top tier pokemon.

edit: done.

sedertz spoke with Eien and I have to agree the overview is quite repetitive. It seems to (almost) mention the same thing every sentence. Could you re-write it and tag me when done? Afterwards I'll let Eien do his gp check.
I cut out the last sentence - I assume that was what was causing the issues?

Let me know how it looks now

A Z-Crystal Flyinium Z is the preferred item so that Tornadus-T has the ability to fire off a strong, accurate nuke when it needs the ability to. However, a Life Orb is certainly usable and lets Tornadus-T throw out consistently strong Hurricanes. A Life Orb should generally be used with a Naive nature to take advantage of Tornadus-T's strong Life Orb-boosted Knock Off, while preserving physical bulk for threats such as Kartana.

Usage Tips
========

Tornadus-T is best used as a utility check to Pokemon such as Kartana and Landorus-T as well as a Defog user for balanced teams that don't mind a single layer of entry hazards, (RC) but appreciate the situational Defog to remove multiple layers when playing against hazard-stacking teams. Clicking Using U-turn on against Pokemon that can't significantly dent Tornadus-T such as Assault Vest Tapu Bulu and defensive Landorus-T lets Tornadus-T rack up Regenerator recovery and quickly heal off any damage it takes. Because of Tornadus-T's high Speed, it can U-turn after using Defog to clear away particularly nebulous troublesome (p sure that's not the proper use of nebulous) hazards such as Toxic Spikes from Toxapex, (RC) letting. (AP) This lets it bring in a sweeper safely, even if Tornadus-T cannot beat those hazard setters one on one. Use Team Preview to effectively identify which Pokemon Tornadus-T should expend its Z-Crystal Z-Move to defeat, as once Supersonic Skystrike is used Tornadus-T struggles to break through common Pokemon such as Clefable.

Team Options

Bulkier Pokemon that appreciate the Speed and set of resistances and Speed that Tornadus-T brings to the table such as Toxapex are excellent partners. Toxapex also can set up Toxic Spikes, helping Tornadus-T break through checks such as Tyranitar far faster. Strong, bulky wallbreakers such as Choice Band Zygarde are also excellent partners and synergize well (moderately redundant). Zygarde in particular appreciates Tornadus-T's ability to use Defog to clear away Toxic Spikes, (RC) as well as and U-turn to bring in Zygarde safely on Pokemon it scares out such as Toxapex. Good checks to Tapu Koko such as Ferrothorn and Assault Vest Tapu Bulu are also great partners for Tornadus-T.

Assault Vest is a notable alternative for Tornadus-T, as it gives Tornadus-T it the bulk to scout against Pokemon such as Greninja thanks to the aid of Regenerator. However, it is generally subpar, as Assault Vest Tornadus-T is rather weak and struggles to put a dent in common defensive Pokemon. Assault Vest Tornadus-T also cannot be used with use Defog, which removes a significant chunk of Tornadus-T's utility. Finally, Assault Vest Tornadus-T cannot effectively scout against Pokemon such as Greninja while Stealth Rock is on the field, which makes Assault Vest Tornadus-T this set even more difficult to use and far less useful.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Tapu Koko and Other Fast Offensive Pokemon (Revenge Killers?)**: Tapu Koko is one of the best offensive checks to Tornadus-T. Roost sets are particularly dangerous, (AC) as they can quickly heal off anything Tornadus-T it throws at them. Pokemon such as Weavile and Ash-Greninja cannot switch in, but they scare it Tornadus-T out with the threat of Choice Band Icicle Crash and Choice Specs Hydro Pump, respectively. Weavile can also use Pursuit to eliminate a weakened Tornadus-T.

**Zapdos and Celesteela**: Zapdos and Celesteela shut down Tornadus-T, as it struggles to put a meaningful dent in either of them. While Tornadus-T can remove Leftovers from both, (RC) and wear both them down quickly with the aid of Stealth Rock, one on one Tornadus-T is completely walled in a one-on-one situation and a single misprediction allows them to heal with Roost and Leech Seed, respectively.

**Bulky hazard-setters Entry Hazard Setters with Recovery**: Pokemon such as Toxapex and Chansey can keep entry hazards up against Tornadus-T. However, Tornadus-T can limit both to a single layer (Chansey is limited to setting only one layer of Stealth Rock anyway as per the mechanics of Stealth Rock, perhaps reword this? agreed) as well as remove any layers of Spikes set by Pokemon partnered with the aforementioned Pokemon.

Hurricane is Tornadus-T's strongest STAB move, and it offers excellent coverage because most Pokemon that resist Flying-type moves in OU are worn down quickly. (give an example here imo) When used with Flyinium Z, it turns into a devastating 185-Base (AH) (remove comment) Power Supersonic Skystrike that allows Tornadus-T to blow through common Pokemon such as Landorus-T and Clefable. Defog is a useful utility move for Tornadus-T, letting it clearing Toxic Spikes and Spikes entry hazards (sr?) for its teammates and completely shutting down Pokemon such as defensive Stealth Rock Landorus-T that Tornadus-T completely walls.
