Generally, it's considered polite to play tournament matches, especially playoff games, publicly, so that interested parties can watch the games in real time (this is also why people tend to post the time/date at which they've scheduled to play). I understand if you get nervous when a lot of people are watching (I do too!), but a player must be able to handle that kind of pressure in order to succeed at the highest level of competition.
