Week 16: Excadrill
:sm/excadrill:
Excadrill is a solid pokemon in SM OU thanks to it's good defensive typing, useful abilities, good stats and access to Rapid Spin. It can make use of an offensive Stealth Rock lead set that also denies hazards with Rapid Spin or be a threatening sweeper with Sand Rush on Sand teams.
Your goal this week is to post creative and viable movesets for Excadrill that are NOT listed as sample sets in its SmogDex entry. You have 7 days from now to post sets, after which the voting phase will begin.
Deadline: 17th April 2024 11:30PM, GMT + 5:30.

FlingScadrill (use in Sand Only!!)

Excadrill @ Hard Stone
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Fling

A much less good but oh so funny version of Sand Rush Excadrill, this set trades Swords Dance and Rapid Span for access to a Hard Stone-boosted Rock Slide and a 100 Base Power Fling, which is a hilarious trick to obliterate things like Rocky Helmet Tornadus-T, and the Lati twins, which otherwise sit in front of Excadrill and can be a pain to deal with.

Excadrill @ Leftovers
Ability: Sand Rush
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Toxic
- Substitute

this excadrill set takes advantage of pokemon like tang, phys def lando-t, zapdos, tapu bulu, and more by just using sub on them. Sub allows it to take advantage of people trying to stall it out and allows exca to hit safely behind it

Toxic gives it the ability to wear down things that might be hard for sand like tangrwoth or phys def lando-t which can be very annoying and once they are put on a timer it is much easier to take them down

Week 17: Mew
:sm/mew:
Mew is one of the most interesting Pokémon in the tier thanks to its vast move pool and decent stats in all areas. Its most common use is as a lead on offensive teams, but Nasty Plot + Rock Polish sets on Hyper offense teams and defensive sets are also used occasionally.
Your goal this week is to post creative and viable move sets for Mew that are NOT listed as sample sets in its SmogDex entry. You have 7 days from now to post sets, after which the voting phase will begin.
Deadline: 3rd June 2024 11:30PM, GMT + 5:30.
Note: I have decided to shift this project's focus to covering niche pokemon as those have far more room for moveset optimization.

Block Mew

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 52 Def / 216 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam / Earthquake
- Block
- Taunt
- Soft-Boiled

This set aims to take advantage of teams that rely on Gliscor, Chansey, or Toxapex to sit on Mew while retaining the Bulk necessary to consistently switch into Medicham on offense teams. Against Gliscor, Block will ensure that Ice Beam can 2HKO without worrying about a switch. If Toxapex switches in on Block, Taunt can shut down what is usually most of its moves, and it is forced to waste Scald PP and eventually struggle to death. Likewise, Chansey's Seismic Toss can be stalled out. Toxapex will lose the 1 on 1 much faster if it loses its Black Sludge to a teammate using Knock Off thanks to forced Scalds activating Synchronize.

Earthquake can be run with a Jolly nature instead of Ice Beam to pressure Heatran as well as remove Chansey and Toxapex without the need to resort to struggle, but it lets Gliscor wall the set.

Block Mew lets you deal with different Pokemon than the usual defensive set as it forgoes Will-O Wisp, which admittedly makes it much less threatening to Scizor, Kyurem-B, and Mawile.

Also I'm just addicted to Block and Mean Look for some reason lol

Defensive Worry Seed "Screw You In Particular" Mew

Mew @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 248 HP / 76 Def / 64 SpA / 44 SpD / 76 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Ice Beam
- Will-O-Wisp
- Roost
- Worry Seed

Worry Seed is a fun option on Mew as a way to invalidate a significant chunk of OU by removing their ability, and thereby force switches, enabling you to gain momentum against an opponent. In addition, Mew's strong 100/100/100 bulk uninvested means it can survive a significant number of hits and stay around for longer. This set is very good as a blanket answer against most of OU, but has an especially good matchup vs Gliscor, Hawlucha, Medicham-M, Lopunny-M, Landorus-T, Chansey, and Tornadus-T. The EV spread allows Mew to avoid the 2HKO from Medicham-M's High Jump Kick after Stealth Rock, and outspeed 20 Speed Jolly Gliscor, while 64 SpA allows Mew to always KO Defensive Landorus-T with Ice Beam after Stealth Rock. Rocky Helmet was chosen rather than Leftovers to maximise chip damage from random U-Turns, and break down Lopunny-M and Medicham-M more effectively.

EDIT TO THIS: switched Toxic to Will-O-Wisp in order to let Mew cripple physical attackers more effectively.

Poisonium Z Swords Dance Mew

Mew @ Poisonium Z
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 252 Atk / 40 SpD / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Gunk Shot
- Earthquake / Fire Punch
- Ice Punch

This Mew set takes advantage of Fairy types such as Tapu Koko, Clefable, Tapu Fini, and Tapu Lele and then eliminates them with an unexpected Gunk Shot whether boosted by Swords Dance or turned into an Acid Downpour. Earthquake was chosen to trash Heatran, Excadrill, Toxapex, and Magnezone while also hitting Magearna, who is immune to Gunk Shot, super effectively. Alternatively, Fire Punch can be used to hit Ferrothorn, Celesteela, and Mega Scizor while retaining super-effective coverage against Magearna, Excadrill, and Magnezone. Finally, Ice Punch is mandatory to hit Gliscor, Lando-T, and Zapdos. This set synergizes well with Hawlucha and Mega Gyarados on Dual Screens Hyper Offense teams as they appreciate this set removing Fairy types and Zapdos, which give the former two a hard time.

Some calculations without a Boost:
252 Atk Mew Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Koko: 250-296 (88.9 - 105.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Mew Acid Downpour (190 BP) vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tapu Fini: 302-356 (88 - 103.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Mew Gunk Shot vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Tapu Lele: 278-328 (98.9 - 116.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
252 Atk Mew Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 16+ Def Scizor-Mega: 184-220 (53.6 - 64.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock

Some calculations with a Boost:
+2 252 Atk Mew Gunk Shot vs. 248 HP / 16 Def Tapu Fini: 382-450 (111.3 - 131.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Mew Gunk Shot vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Clefable: 384-452 (97.4 - 114.7%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
+2 252 Atk Mew Earthquake vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 322-380 (88.7 - 104.6%) -- 68.8% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 Atk Mew Fire Punch vs. 248 HP / 16+ Def Scizor-Mega: 368-436 (107.2 - 127.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
+2 252 Atk Mew Fire Punch vs. 252 HP / 24 Def Celesteela: 260-306 (65.3 - 76.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock, Leftovers recovery, and Leech Seed recovery
+1 252 Atk Mew Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 112+ Def Landorus-Therian: 360-428 (94.2 - 112%) -- guaranteed OHKO after Stealth Rock
+2 252 Atk Mew Ice Punch vs. 252 HP / 184+ Def Zapdos: 234-276 (60.9 - 71.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Stealth Rock and Leftovers recovery

Mew @ Leftovers
Ability: Synchronize
EVs: 240 HP / 52 Def / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Reflect Type
- Toxic

def mew with reflect type allows u to win a lot of 1v1... for ex. cb ttar trying to crunch you, toxapex trying to toxic you, copying ferrothorn to avoid leech seed. Etc. Toxic allows u to threaten a lot of mons that u otherwise wouldt really have the chance to with WoW like CM mega latias, rotom-w, tangrowth, SD bulu, volcarona, victini, manaphy, etc
