[QC Ready 0/3] Aromatisse

Smogon's fantastical fun-guy.

[Pros]

Aromatisse possesses excellent typing in pure Fairy.

It's one of the most physically defensive Fairies with 101/72/89 defenses.

It packs a great utility movepool including Dual Screens, Aromatherapy, Wish, etc.

Aroma Veil provides immunity to Taunt, Torment, Disable, and Encore, which is wonderful for a support Pokemon.

It can pass 203 HP Wishes.

[Cons]

It's incredibly slow. Slower than Slowbro. Yeah, really, it's that slow.

It doesn't have any way to deal with Steel-types.

Aromatisse lacks the incredible special defense of other Fairy-types, such as Florges.

Its stats are nearly a carbon-copy of Clefable and it faces a ton of competition for a teamslot.

[Set Recommendations]

Aromatisse @ Leftovers
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 240 Def / 16 SpD
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spe), 0 Spe IV
- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy / Toxic

 • Good typing, defenses, and ability for a support
 • Provides 203 HP Wishes to support the team
 • Aromatherapy protects Aromatisse from Toxic while also supporting the team
 • Protect keeps Aromatisse alive when combined with Wish, and can be used with Toxic to stall
 • Unlike most supports, it isn't taunt-bait because it's immune!
 • STAB Moonblast provides reliable damage
 • EVs maximize physical bulk with remainder in SpD, dropping speed to protect against Gyro Ball - Ferrothorn's is 35 BP (16.25 - 19.21%), Forretress is 20 BP.

[Checks and Counters]
 • Steel-types. Pokemon like Scizor, Skarmory, Aegislash, Excadrill, or Mawile can easily switch in and set up.
 • Poison-types, such as Venusaur, Roserade, and Gengar. They can KO with STAB Sludge Bombs and only fear the odd Psychic attack
 • Bulky set-up sweepers in general that don't fear Moonblast (Volcarona, etc)
 • Vulnerable to Toxic without Aromatherapy
It's my 666th post!

Ok, so the full support set is the only one I left in the analysis. It has plenty of other options...

It gets dual screens, but it's so slow that Espeon or Klefki likely do that better.

Aromatisse can use its abysmal base 29 speed with Trick Room, and is unique in that it can't be taunted before setting it up. It has Psychic/Psyshock, Thunderbolt, Energy Ball, and even Gyro Ball, but 72/99 attacking stats aren't amazing so I'm not sure if it's worth writing about.

Like nearly every Fairy, it can also run a great Calm Mind set, and it has good physical defense for something like CM / Moonblast / Wish / Protect. It's also immune to Taunt/Encore but Clefable is usually better choice because it doesn't fear Toxic, etc.

It's big selling point is that it effectively has a permanent "Mental Herb" from its ability. If some QC members feel one of these other options (like defensive CM) deserves an analysis I'll gladly add it, but I think pure support is where Aromatisse stands out the most from all the other Fairy-types. This is QC Ready!

Make the moveset like this:

- Wish
- Protect
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy / Toxic

You need Moonblast otherwise you can't do anything to the Pokemon you check and have Substitute or can KO you before you stall them out with Toxic.

-month late- but.. an idea on a SubCM set could be RestTalk (essentially makes you immune to Toxic), especially since you can't be Taunted.. that being said, Magnezone would be a great partner due to its Steel trapping ability..

Could run something like an Offensive Trick Room set with a Life Orb: Trick Room, Psyshock, Moonblast, Thunderbolt/HP Fire.. I think it's mostly regulated to being a Trick Room attacker with its stats, it's not amazing by any means in terms of Offense or Defense, it's decently bulky (arguably better bulk than Reuniclus due to typing, less offense as a trade off and pretty much guarantees the Trick Room getting off)...

Actually, does Aroma Veil/Assault Vest work together? If so.. you could be a good Special Defensive Trick Room user o-o..

Just a random sample set I came up with:

Aromatisse @ Life Orb
Ability: Aroma Veil
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SAtk / 0 Spd
- Moonblast
- Hidden Power [Fire] / Psychic / Psyshock
- Thunderbolt / Psychic / Psyshock
- Trick Room

I suggest including a RestTalk set and a Trick Room set, as those type of sets seem to be the only sets that wouldn't be outclassed by other Fairy-types such as Clefable.

name: RestTalk Mono-Attacker
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep Talk
move 3: Calm Mind
move 4: Moonblast
ability: Aroma Veil
item: Leftovers
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
ivs: 0Spe
nature: Relaxed

This set makes Aromatisse very difficult to KO as it will be constantly healing from Leftovers, becoming bulkier through Calm Mind, basically immune to status thanks to Rest, and it cannot be stopped by Taunt or Encore due to its ability. Moonblast is your only move of chocie, as Fairy is a great mono Offensive type, as no Pokemon is immune to it (except Shedinjas), only one Pokemon in Heatran has a 4x resistance to it, and its super effective against common Dragon-, and Fighting-types. In short, Aromatisse's respectable 101/72/89 bulk, decent base 99 Special Attack and fantastic typing make it a great candidate for a mono-attacking RestTalk sweeper.

Relaxed nature's Speed decrease and 0 Speed IVs are necessary to help lessen the damage taken from super effective Gyro Balls. 252 HP EVs are necessary to maximize Aromatisse's high bulk. Relaxed nature's Defense increase and 252 Defense EV's are necessary, as Aromatisse does not need to invest in Special Defense EV's due to Calm Mind increasing its Special Defense and Moonblast having a 30% chance to lower the opposing Pokemon's Special Attack stat. The Defense increase will also help it survive its two most common weaknesses, Bullet Punch and Gyro Ball.

Aromatisse enjoys Toxic Spikes support, as it will help cripple special Walls such as Blissey and other Calm Mind users. Tentacruel is a great partner that can setup Toxic Spikes, spin away Toxic Spikes, Scald Fire types that resist Moonblast, and it resists both of Aromatisse's Weaknesses. Tyranitar is great at dealing with problematic Gengars that carry Sludge Bomb, being able to tank Special attacks and Pursuiting them on the switch. Magnezone can trap Steel-types, and OHKO them with Hidden Power Fire.

Checks and Counters - It can't do anything to Blissey, even after +6 Calm Minds, Blissey can easily take Moonblasts and recover with Soft-Boiled. Steel-, Poison-, and Fire-types can resist Moonblast, while Steel- and Poison-types can also threaten to OHKO it. Aegislash can easily take Moonblasts and OHKO it with Iron Head. Gengar and Venusaur can both resist Moonblast and OHKO an unboosted Aromatisse.
