For those of you wondering what PU tours you should look forward to in 2019 outside of our 4 major circuit tours, this is everything we have planned out so far. Keep in mind that none of these will give points for the 2019 PU ribbon circuit. The timing and order is not final, but we do want to at least run everything here at some point:
  • PUPL- likely around the same time as last year, early June
  • Official Roomtours- we'll be running these over the month of February with playoffs afterwards, a similar format to the last installment
  • PU Seeded tournament- this is the next planned tour after the mini-classic, a Bo3 single elimination tournament where all entrants are seeded
  • PU Gods Among Us- Typical Gods Among Us format where a different PUBL Pokemon is freed for usage every round, likely after seeded although we may need to hold off on it for PUPL
  • Pyrotoz.com Tournament- I'm bringing this ancient tournament back in between generation 8 being released and PU being created. Get hype.

Minior has been quickbanned from PU

The PU council has decided to quickban Minior. Shell Smash Minior was deemed too much for the PU metagame to handle, this is largely due to the lack of reliable checks and counters in the tier. Minior has the ability to run a variety of different sets including physical, physically based mixed and specially based mixed with moves such as Acrobatics, Earthquake, Subsitute, Stone Edge, Power Gem and Hidden Power Grass. This means that it is often hard to have definitive Counters as Pokemon such as Quagsire which would usually wall the physically based set drop to HP Grass and Pokemon such as Eelektross which wall the special based set drop to Stone Edge. Not only this but Minior finds a number of set up opportunities against the tiers Normal or Flying types such as Kangaskhan, Stoutland, Dodrio, Scyther and even non Revelation Dance Oricorio-E. This can even be amplified by methods such as Reflect, Light Screen and Memento to ensure better set up opportunities. It is also worth noting that Minior's inability to be hit by status such as Will-O-Wisp and Toxic means that defensive Pokemon like Sableye and Mudsdale have a somewhat hard time of checking it. These reasons combined have ultimately caused the PU council to ban Minior, votes and other reasons are shown below.

Houndoom will be suspect tested and removed from tournaments
163384

The PU council has decided to suspect Houndoom while removing it from tournaments for the time being. This means that Houndoom will remain on ladder for the duration of the suspect, but will be removed from PU tours until the suspect concludes. The overriding notion was that a suspect is necessary but Houndoom is not clearly problematic enough to immediately quickban. Like Pyroar before it, Houndoom is an extremely potent offensive threat capable of breaking through most of its checks, but is susceptible to entry hazards, offensive pressure, priority, and pretty much any faster Pokemon. Houndoom can be prepped for with Pokemon such as Assault Vest Hitmonchan, but the degree of preparation necessary for balanced or defensive teams seems to be fairly significant and potentially overcentralizing. The council is concerned about the teambuilding impact that Houndoom might have, which is what the suspect test will attempt to determine over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, we felt that keeping Houndoom out of tournaments would be the safest option.

We have also decided to lay down a future policy for more consistently dealing with these kinds of situations. If a Pokemon drops to PU and the council decides to suspect it before the next round of tournaments (typically Sunday or Monday), the dropped Pokemon will not be allowed in tournaments until the suspect test is concluded. This goes for the official PU circuit tournaments, as well as any subforum tours that might be going on.

Yesterday, Taskr stepped down from his council slot alongside his PUTLship. However, we are confident that his shoes will be capably filled by our newest council member TJ.

e: upon further reflection, our brit quota has dropped too low. Therefore we will also be welcoming Shaneghoul to the council.

Cincinno and Mega Abomasnow are quickbanned from PU
184475
184476

The PU council has unanimously decided to remove both Cinccino and Mega Abomasnow. The former outspeeds practically all of the unboosted metagame and so immediately became a ridiculously useful and centralizing revenge killer in addition to being quite strong for the tier and able to lure, pivot on, or cheese its few switchins. The presence of a few stops or Rocky Helmet users like Regirock, Metang, Sableye, Mudsdale, or Qwilfish does not mitigate Cinccino enough. Forcing the tier to turn to unreliable, purely defensive and easily abusable stops would've been extremely centralizing for the tier. Similarly, Mega Abomasnow was considered too much due to how easily it takes advantage of nearly every defensive Pokemon in PU. While it's much easier to check and threaten due to its Speed and poor typing, it's still nearly uncounterable, able to trade with plenty of would-be revenge killers, and overall too polarizing (pun intended). While we're somewhat interested in returning to look at Mega Abomasnow's presence later, for now both it and Cinccino cannot be allowed to stay in PU. Full council vote and reasonings are in the sheet below.
