Moves
========

Flame Charge is essential for Ponyta, allowing it to outpace the entire unboosted metagame and avoid being trapped and KOed by most variants of Diglett after a boost. Flare Blitz is a strong STAB move that also offers a very powerful Inferno Overdrive to let Ponyta wallbreak or sweep late-game. High Horsepower provides good coverage for Ponyta, letting it hit Pokemon like Onix, Mareanie, and Chinchou for super effective damage. Morning Sun recovery helps to mitigate Flare Blitz recoil and Stealth Rock damage and also pairs well with Flame Body, allowing Ponyta to continuously fish for a burn. Wild Charge is an alternate option that provides additional coverage for Ponyta to hit Pokemon like Staryu and Shellder harder than Ponyta's other moves.

Set Details
========

196 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Ponyta hit 19 Speed, outpacing Gastly and Speed tying with Staryu and Abra before using Flame Charge. 236 Attack EVs give Ponyta's attacks as much power as possible and let Ponyta net important KOs on Pokemon like Eviolite Foongus and Choice Scarf Mienfoo. The remaining EVs are put into Defense to reduce damage from physical attacks. Firium Z allows Ponyta to fire off a one-time 190-Base Power Inferno Overdrive, scoring KOs Ponyta would otherwise miss on Pokemon such as offensive Vullaby and 17 Speed Mienfoo after Stealth Rock damage. Electrium Z is an alternative option to break through Mareanie and Staryu, while Groundium Z can be used to hit Onix and Mareanie.

Usage Tips
========

Even without Eviolite, Ponyta is still moderately bulky and can come in on most neutral or resisted attacks and threaten the foe, though it is best for Ponyta to come in on a free switch to reduce its vulnerability to priority after chip damage. Be careful of doing so if you want to bluff a non-Z-Move set, since the lack of Eviolite may give it away to the opponent. Ponyta's typing and decent natural bulk allow it to come in on Pokemon like Spritzee and Foongus and begin threatening them. Flame Body can be used to pivot in on Mienfoo and threaten to burn it, as Ponyta takes little damage from Fake Out, Knock Off, and U-turn, although Ponyta should try to avoid switching in on High Jump Kick. Setting up with Flame Charge is important, as it allows Ponyta to outspeed Diglett and almost every Choice Scarf Pokemon. Flame Charge can be used on Pokemon Ponyta isn't particularly threatened by or Pokemon that it forces out like Foongus and Snivy. Inferno Overdrive is best used only after Onix faints, as Onix is extremely difficult for Ponyta to take on without a large amount of prior damage. Inferno Overdrive can also be used to KO a Pokemon Ponyta could not defeat with just Flare Blitz, like high HP Timburr or Mienfoo, if the opponent lacks a solid counter to Ponyta.

Team Options
========

Ponyta really appreciates entry hazard removal support from Pokemon like Staryu due to its vulnerability to every entry hazard, particularly Stealth Rock. Ponyta also appreciates entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Mudbray to weaken its targets and break Sturdy from Onix and Magnemite. A good switch-in to Rock- and Ground-types such as Snivy is greatly appreciated, since Ponyta can struggle to take them out without chip damage. Snivy in particular also provides Defog support for Ponyta. If not running Wild Charge, a Grass-type like Ferroseed or Foongus provides a useful switch-in to Staryu and other Water-types. Diglett works very well with Ponyta, since it can trap and KO the otherwise problematic Mareanie and Onix. Mienfoo is an excellent partner, as it can take on the Rock-types Ponyta needs chip damage for, lure in Spritzee, which Ponyta counters if running Morning Sun, and use U-turn to let Ponyta get in safely. Magnemite and Chinchou are also good partners for Ponyta, since their Volt Switch provides a relatively safe way to get Ponyta in, and they also threaten Water-types that stop Ponyta from sweeping.

Set
rename to Physical Firium Z

Moves
Move the clause " after a boost" to the end of the first point because right now it implies that having flame charge on your set automatically stops diglett trap
STAB isn't a noun (minor GP stuff)
Torchic isn't a relevant example as the Life Orb set does nothing to Ponyta and would rather Baton Pass out. Maybe use opposing Ponyta, Mareanie, or even something like Cranidos.
Also I'd list Onix last as both sets easily take a High Horsepower (due to Eviolite or Sturdy), but i still find it relevant
Explain why Morning Sun works well with Flame Body better

Set Details
I know it's extremely cliche, but I'd recommend mentioning that 19 Speed let's Ponyta "outpace nearly the entire unboosted meta"
Maybe note Firium Z adds to cleaning potential as it fits better here than in moves under Flare Blitz

Usage Tips
Add when and how to set up with Flame Charge
Combine first and third points
add Life Orb chic as a free switch for Flash Fire
Add switching in on physical attackers with Flame Body
Make a point on how to properly play around Diglett
This set can bluff being nearly every other Ponyta set on switch in (Flash Fire vs. Flame Body) so mention that
mention something about sweeping and cleaning
You can mention proper use of Firium Z

Team Options
1st line add "especially Stealth Rock"
Similarly isn't a good transition word for the second point, maybe use "on the other side" or something like that.
Mention other VoltTurn users can get Pony safely in
Chinchou is a great teammate for Ponyta as it can bait and eliminate Ground-types, can Volt Switch it in, and is one of the best switchins to Water-types

Some of Drew's suggestions are a bit nitpicky, but read through it and implement whatever you see fit. I couldn't find anything myself so 1/3

Implemented most of the stuff, also cleaned up mentions of Flash Fire and Torchic since those are irrelevant now and added a mention of groundium and electrium in Set Details

Ready for next QC unless you have stuff you want me to add

  • 196 Speed EVs and a Jolly nature let Ponyta hit 19 Speed, outpacing Gastly and tying with Staryu and Abra unboosted
  • 236 Attack EVs gives Ponyta as much power as possible with its attacks and gains important KOs on Pokemon like Eviolite Foongus and Choice Scarf Mienfoo
  • The remaining EVs are put into Defense to reduce damage from physical attacks
  • Firium Z allows Ponyta to fire off a one time 190 BP Fire-type move, gaining KOs Ponyta would otherwise miss and allowing Ponyta to clean lategame
  • Electrium Z is an alternative option to break through Vullaby and Staryu, while Groundium Z can be used to allow Ponyta to hit Onix and Mareanie
* list examples of KOs it would otherwise miss? (fastfoo, evio vulla after sr 7/8 times, etc)
* not sure i'm into either electrium Z or groundium Z, but if you specifically mention that they are niche options to lure those common ponyta switch-ins then that's fine. mareanie should be the other mention for electrium > vullaby though IMO, since firium beats all but the most bulky of vulla after SR

Usage Tips
========

  • Even without Eviolite, Ponyta is still moderately bulky and can come in on most neutral or resisted attacks and threaten the opponent
  • Flame Body can be used to pivot in on Mienfoo and threaten to burn it, although Ponyta should ideally avoid switching in on High Jump Kick
  • Setting up with Flame Charge is important, as it allows Ponyta to outspeed both Diglett and almost every Choice Scarf Pokemon
  • Flame Charge is best used on Pokemon Ponyta isn't particularly threatened by or forces out like Foongus and Snivy
  • Ponyta's typing and decent natural bulk allow it to come in on Pokemon like Spritzee and Foongus and begin threatening the opponent
* it's still best served coming in at full health after a KO though, since without evio it's whittled very easily by priority and flare blitz recoil, so the extra damage is unwanted if avoidable
* when talking about coming in foo, it might be worth specifically spelling out that you can come in on FO / uturn / knock, since it takes a pittance from all of those
* you should talk about when to use your firium move: specifically, when onix is gone. onix (and dig to a lesser extent) is the bane of ponyta. even with horsepower evio WA sets are always a pain in the butt for ponyta, and bj sets can still tank and KO back

Team Options
========

  • Ponyta really appreciates hazard removal support from Pokemon like Staryu due to its vulnerability to every entry hazard and particularly Stealth Rock
  • Ponyta also appreciates entry hazard support from Pokemon such as Mudbray to weaken its targets and make it possible to take them out earlier in the game

  • Magnemite and Chinchou are also good partners for Ponyta since Volt Switch provides a relatively safe way to get Ponyta in, as well as threatening Water-types who stop Ponyta from sweeping
* mention diglett to trap onix and mare
* re: snivy, i'd also mention that snivy can defog to support pony and that pony does well against typical snivy checks
* if possible provide specific examples for "weaken its targets and make it possible to take them out earlier in the game"; also mention breaking onix sturdy
* this pony doesn't counter spritzee unless you run morning sun but pressures and forces it out

After many moons...

Set itself is fine.

Moves
========
  • I'd specify that it avoids being trapped by most Diglett sets or by non-Choice Scarf Diglett. While its rare enough not to be on the analysis page, scarf Dig is common enough in competitive play specifically for sets like this that I feel like its worth the qualification.
  • I would also specify that FC allows pony to avoid being trapped and revenge killed by Diglett, because technically you can still get trapped, you just dont die.
  • I don't like that you say Flare Blitz offers a stronger Inferno Overdrive because it sounds as if someone should be clicking Z-Flame Charge. I get what you are trying to say, but GPers might not. I'd rephrase this.
  • Wild Charge only hits most Vullaby sets marginally harder than Flare Blitz iirc, so if you can think of another example its probably better. I can't think of one, though, so if you want to leave this it's fine.
Set Details
========
  • Instead of "unboosted" say like "before a Flame Charge"
Usage Tips
========
  • I'd go a little more in-depth about when to click the Z-Move. Maybe talk about luring in something that can take a FB but not an IO, or even bluffing a non-Z set if possible.

Team Options
========
  • These are fine
Implement and you can give yourself 3/3

Made an attempt at this, although I swear I ended up typing "Only use Inferno Overdrive at the right time" or some variation a half dozen times.

Ready for GP.
