[Monotype] Chansey [QC: 3/3][GP: 2/2]

[OVERVIEW]

Chansey is the best specially defensive wall in the metagame thanks to its great HP and Eviolite-boosted Special Defense. It forms one of the most powerful defensive cores with Porygon2, helping it fit onto almost any balance Normal team. Access to Soft-Boiled and Natural Cure easily keeps Chansey healthy and makes it incredibly difficult to chip down. Chansey is also the only reliable entry hazard user for balance teams, as it's able to set up the all-important Stealth Rock. In addition to this, Chansey can use many forms of utility: it can flexibly use either Thunder Wave or Toxic to support the team as it is needed and can use Heal Bell and Wish to heal its teammates. With Eviolite, Chansey actually still has acceptable physical bulk. However, this makes Chansey very reliant on Eviolite, and it can be completely crippled without it. Strong physical attackers such as Choice Band Dragonite are also much too powerful for it to stop, even with Eviolite's defensive boosts. Stallbreakers and Taunt users such as Mew easily beat Chansey, as it is very passive outside of its use of Seismic Toss and a potential status move.

Moves
========

Stealth Rock is useful for wearing down the opponent's team, and Chansey's great bulk helps it find many opportunities for setting it up. Soft-Boiled gives Chansey reliable recovery to allow it to continuously switch into attacks. Seismic Toss keeps Chansey from being Taunt fodder and allows it to slowly beat foes that lack recovery such as Swampert. Thunder Wave and Toxic are both very useful for punishing setup sweepers that try to take advantage of Chansey, such as Mega Gallade, Mega Pinsir, and Dragonite. Thunder Wave is most useful for slowing down fast threats, such as Keldeo and Victini, making it the preferred status move for supporting its team. On the other hand, Toxic works well with Chansey's stall-like nature and helps it cripple and combat opposing walls, such as Zapdos, on its own. Heal Bell is also a viable option that lets Chansey cleanse the status of its team, but it does leave Chansey much more vulnerable to setup sweepers.

Set Details
========

The EV spread minimizes Stealth Rock damage and makes Chansey as physically bulky as possible, helping it survive powerful hits such as Terrakion's Close Combat after Stealth Rock damage and Mega Lopunny's High Jump Kick. Natural Cure removes any status effects Chansey may have when it switches out, allowing it to be a great status absorber and almost impossible to permanently cripple. Eviolite gives Chansey a huge boost to its Defense and Special Defense, making it an almost unbreakable special wall.

Usage Tips
========

Pivot Chansey into special attackers and opposing walls, like Mega Charizard Y and Gastrodon, as neither are actually capable of beating it, and set up Stealth Rock as soon as possible to start dealing chip damage. Spreading status is Chansey's second objective, as it can easily start paralyzing or poisoning its switch-ins, making it even more difficult to check. Once a foe has been hit by a status move, Chansey can slowly whittle it down with Seismic Toss. Don't be afraid to trade status conditions with opposing walls, as Chansey can often beat the likes of Zapdos and Cradily thanks to Natural Cure. Make sure to keep Chansey as healthy as possible, so use Soft-Boiled whenever necessary, and be willing to switch out to cure any debilitating status effects. A weakened Chansey cannot switch into attacks as easily, which may make it more difficult to find opportunities to heal. Although Chansey can cripple some setup sweepers with status, those with Substitute or Taunt, such as Mega Gyarados, have little to fear from Chansey, and Chansey should not try to challenge them. Beware of Knock Off and Trick users, such as Bisharp and Choice Scarf Latios, as Chansey is incredibly reliant on Eviolite's boosts. Try to avoid physical attackers whenever possible, as even with the most possible physical bulk, Chansey can still be broken by the likes of Choice Band Azumarill and Choice Band Hoopa-U. In most cases, don't waste Heal Bell trying to cleanse Chansey's status effects; instead, save its precious PP for healing Chansey's teammates.

Team Options
========

Chansey's ability to switch into special wallbreakers such as Landorus makes it pair best with physical walls, so Staraptor and Porygon2 are common teammates. Staraptor's use of Intimidate makes it a great switch-in to physical attackers such as Mega Sharpedo. It also serves as a fantastic Knock Off switch-in and can use Defog to clear entry hazards that can wear down Chansey. Staraptor's STAB Brave Bird also helps it check Fighting-types that beat Chansey. Porygon2's impressive mixed bulk allows it to check mixed attackers, such as Life Orb Hoopa-U and Kyurem-B. It can also use Foul Play to check sweepers that try to set up on Chansey, like Mega Scizor. Choice Scarf Ditto is another great option for soft checking many setup sweepers, as it can copy any boosts they might get and try to sweep the opposing team with its higher Speed. Mega Lopunny is one of the best Knock Off absorbers, as it both carries a Mega Stone and resists Dark-type moves. Mega Pidgeot is the other offensive Mega Evolution that can absorb Knock Off while taking care of Fighting-types such as Mega Gallade. Mega Audino is the best defensive option, as it has great physical bulk and takes neutral damage from Fighting-type attacks, making it able to switch into Keldeo's Secret Sword. Mega Audino also easily switches into Dark-type attacks, especially Knock Off, and is immune to Dragon-types, making it a great check to Choice Band Dragonite with Superpower. Meloetta is a fantastic offensive teammate for Chansey thanks to its unique typing and coverage, being able to use Psychic and Shadow Ball to check the likes of Keldeo and Doublade with ease. Diggersby has almost no defensive utility, but its incredible power makes it capable of defeating stallbreakers that beat Chansey like Gliscor.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Chansey can use an alternative spread of 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD to improve its mixed bulk but will take more damage from physical attackers, making it generally less useful. A Wish + Protect set can be used to pass huge Wishes to Chansey's teammates, but its delayed nature makes it less reliable for Chansey's own healing than Soft-Boiled, and it takes up more moveslots.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Stallbreakers**: Stallbreakers such as Mew and Gliscor are impossible for Chansey to handle, as they either can use Taunt or are immune to status, rendering Chansey incapable of stopping them from either setting up or slowly whittling it down.

**Knock Off and Trick**: Knock Off and Trick will cripple Chansey and make it much more difficult for it to switch into attacks, so users such as Bisharp, Tornadus-T, Azumarill, Choice Scarf Gardevoir, and Choice Scarf Togekiss should be avoided at all costs.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Mega Medicham and Keldeo will eat right through Chansey's impressive defenses and take it down without a problem.

**Physical Wallbreakers**: By hitting Chansey on its lower Defense, the likes of Choice Band Dragonite, Hoopa-U, and Diggersby can easily break it.

**Setup Sweepers**: Although Chansey can cripple some setup sweepers, others such as Rain Dance Manaphy, Belly Drum Azumarill, Lum Berry Dragonite, and Mega Gyarados can generally ignore and set up on it.

Overview
  • Add Walled by Ghost-types
  • Maybe up to you forms a great defensive core along with Porygon-2
  • Mention how it access to status moves such Toxic and Thunder Wave
[SET]
name: Support
move 1: Stealth Rock
move 2: Soft-Boiled
move 3: Seismic Toss
move 4: Thunder Wave / Toxic / Heal Bell
item: Eviolite
ability: Natural Cure
nature: Bold
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Moves
  • Add Example of a wall that Toxic helps with most likely Zapdos
  • Manaphy is kind of iffy because of defensive Rain Dance set which Chansey can't status maybe say Mega Pinsir instead
  • Add how Seismic Toss does not hit Ghost-types as sort of a negative
Set Details
  • Eviolite wording at the end seems like it is trying to say it makes a great mixed wall, but probably just me
Usage Tips
  • For Azumarill I would specify the set because Belly Drum Azumarill doesn't carry Superpower often, but Choice Band Does
  • Avoiding physical attackers part should say whenever possible because sometimes Chaney needs to status a physical attacker
Team Options
  • Add Mega Pidgeot because it is an option
  • Add Diggersby because it is an option
Other options
  • The main reason to use 4 HP / 252 SpD / 252 Def spread is for giving less HP to Leech seeders such as Ferrothorn
  • Mention how Wish and Protect take up two move slots
Checks and Counters
  • Add Bisharp under Knock Off and Trick section
  • for Keldeo say Choice Specs Keldeo because that is main set that breaks Chansey
  • For Mega Gyarados generally Taunt is a very good check to it and could qualify as Stallbreaker
I did a general QC, but I would read over it since you wrote this very late and most people don't write very well tired

Got a few comments on these, I'll hold off on calling it 1/3 for now.
  • The set should be 248 HP. At 252, Chansey takes 88 damage from Stealth Rock, while at 248 it only takes 87. Unlike with some other Pokemon, it doesn't have Leftovers for passive recovery, so I'd rather keep it at 248. It isn't uncommon to see Chansey switch in and out without using Soft-Boiled, at which point having 248 will be better.
  • Regarding both points about how Chansey is walled by Ghost-types, it can use Thunder Wave / Toxic to hit them, so it's not really relevant, in my opinion
  • What exactly makes Mega Pidgeot a good teammate for Chansey? Like all other Normal-types, it appreciates Chansey's help, so I would assume Chansey is in its Team Options, but I don't see why it needs to be in Chansey's when Mega Lopunny is actually just fantastic for absorbing Knock Off. Diggersby's in a similar hole. Electric-types can't break Chansey in most cases anyway
  • The only reason for using the lower HP spread is to improve special bulk at the cost of some physical bulk. Leech Seed is only reduced by 7 HP and Ferrothorn will still heal enough for Seismic Toss anyway.
  • Choice Scarf Keldeo can 2HKO Chansey, so I think it's better to just leave in both, just as I wouldn't specify Choice Band Terrakion if I added it to the list.
  • Mega Gyarados is always thought of as a sweeper before a stallbreaker because of its threatening Dragon Dance sets, so I think it should stay in that section.

Edit ignore what I said before but I feel like 252 should be put there to stay consistent or 248 should be explained

Overview
  • Chansey is pretty much the only Stealth Rock setter worth using on Normal besides Smeargle which is only utilized on Offensive builds. (Basically more emphasis on it usually being the only form of entry hazards)
Team Options
  • Not sure if this is what Vid was going for but I think mentioning Mega Pidgeot would be talking about how it can also improve the Normal vs Fighting matchup as well by checking Fighting-type Pokemon similarly to Meloetta.
  • Possibly mention Mega Audino as another teammate that is extremely bulky on the physically defensive side as well as a dark resist / dragon resist and fighting neutrality.
Really minor details overall, QC 2/3

Looks good to me. I don't think we need to slash Heal Bell, but it honestly isn't a big deal since the text emphasizes how important a status move is. Glad Twave is slashed first, though.

QC 3/3

Unslashed Heal Bell because status moves really are necessary almost all of the time. Thank you!

Thanks. Implemented all. I sort of like the "delayed nature" sentence, but I'll remove it if GP wants me to.

Strong physical attackers such as Choice Band Dragonite are also much too powerful for it to stop, even with Eviolite's defensive boosts. (Maybe add "also/furthermore" or something like that?) Stallbreakers and Taunt users such as Mew easily beat Chansey, as it is very passive outside of its use of Seismic Toss and a potential status move.

Stealth Rock is useful for wearing down the opponent's team, and Chansey's great bulk helps it find many opportunities for setting it up. Soft-Boiled gives Chansey reliable recovery to allow it to continuously switch into attacks. Seismic Toss keeps Chansey from being Taunt fodder and allows it to slowly beat foes that lack recovery,(AC) such as Swampert. On the other hand, Toxic works well with Chansey's stall-like nature and helps it cripple and combat opposing walls on its own, such as Zapdos. Heal Bell is also a viable option that lets Chansey cleanse the status of for its team, but it does leave leaves Chansey much more vulnerable to setup sweepers.

Set Details
========

Usage Tips
========

Make sure to keep Chansey as healthy as possible, so use Soft-Boiled whenever necessary,(AC) and be willing to switch out to cure any debilitating status effects. Beware of Knock Off and Trick users, such as Bisharp and Choice Scarf Latios, as Chansey is incredibly reliant on Eviolite's defensive boosts. Try to avoid physical attackers whenever possible, as even with the most possible physical bulk, Chansey can still be broken by the likes of Choice Band Azumarill and Choice Band Hoopa-U. In most cases, don't waste Heal Bell trying to cleanse Chansey's status effects; instead, save its precious PP it for healing Chansey's teammates.

Team Options

Chansey's ability to switch into special wallbreakers such as Landorus makes it pair best with physical walls, so the likes of Staraptor and Porygon2 are common teammates. Staraptor's use of Intimidate makes it a great switch-in to physical attackers,(AC) such as Mega Sharpedo. It also serves as a fantastic Knock Off switch-in and can use Defog to clear entry hazards that can wear down Chansey. Staraptor's STAB Brave Bird also helps it check Fighting-types that beat Chansey. Porygon2's impressive mixed bulk (it reduces redundancy with the other "mixed". Also, just saying "bulk" implies both physical and special, therefore implying mixed) allows it to check mixed attackers, such as Life Orb Hoopa-U and Kyurem-B. Mega Audino is the best defensive option, as it has great physical bulk and takes neutral damage from Fighting-type attacks, making allowing it able (sounded choppy before) to switch into Keldeo's Secret Sword. Diggersby has almost no defensive utility, but its incredible power makes it capable of defeating stallbreakers like Gliscor that beat Chansey.

Other Options
=============

Chansey can use an alternative spread of 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpD to improve its mixed bulk,(AC) but will take more damage from physical attackers, making it generally less useful. A Wish + Protect set can be used to pass huge Wishes to Chansey's teammates, but its delayed nature (i assume you're just talking about Wish. In that case, say "...but Wish's delayed heal...") makes it less reliable for Chansey's own healing than Soft-Boiled, and it this set takes up more moveslots.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Stallbreakers**: Stallbreakers such as Mew and Gliscor are impossible for Chansey to handle, as they either can use Taunt or are immune to status, rendering Chansey incapable of stopping them from either setting up or slowly whittling it down.

**Knock Off and Trick**: Knock Off and Trick will cripple Chansey and make it much more difficult for it Chansey to switch into attacks, so users such as Bisharp, Tornadus-T, Azumarill, Choice Scarf Gardevoir, and Choice Scarf Togekiss should be avoided at all costs.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Mega Medicham and Keldeo will eat right through Chansey's impressive defenses and take it down without a problem.

**Physical Wallbreakers**: By hitting Chansey on its lower Defense stat, the likes of Choice Band Dragonite, Hoopa-U, and Diggersby can easily break it.

**Setup Sweepers**: Although Chansey can cripple some setup sweepers, others,(AC) such as Rain Dance Manaphy, Belly Drum Azumarill, Lum Berry Dragonite, and Mega Gyarados,(AC) can generally ignore and set up on it.

[OVERVIEW]

Chansey is the best specially defensive wall in the metagame thanks to its unparalleled HP and great Special Defense (this can technically be wrong because you fail to mention that it gets Eviolite--while it might be unviable, don't forget that Blissey is overall bulkier than non-Eviolite Chansey!). It forms one of the most powerful defensive cores with Porygon2, helping it fit onto almost any balance Normal team. Access to Soft-Boiled and Natural Cure easily keeps Chansey healthy and makes it incredibly difficult to chip down. Chansey is also the only reliable entry hazard user for balanced balance (either do this or change "balance Normal team" to "balanced Normal team") teams, as it's able to set up the all-important Stealth Rock.
