UU Mega Aggron

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Aggron has one of the highest Defense stats in the game, allowing it to effectively wall a plethora of Pokemon in UU, including Mega Altaria, Serperior, and Mega Aerodactyl. Furthermore, its ability Filter reduces damage from super effective attacks, further bolstering its walling capabilities. In addition to Mega Aggron's good Defense, it also has offensive strength thanks to its decent base 140 Attack stat; this is especially potent when coupled with Heavy Slam and good coverage moves, such as Earthquake and Fire Punch. Mega Aggron can support its team very well with its wide variety of support moves, such as Stealth Rock, Roar, Toxic, and Thunder Wave and more. Unfortunately, its lack of reliable recovery and inability to run Leftovers mean Mega Aggron can be chipped down to the point where it fails to check the Pokemon it is supposed to check properly. Mega Aggron also faces competition from Mega Steelix as a physically defensive Steel-type, but Mega Aggron's superior defensive ability and pure Steel typing provide it with an edge. Mega Aggron's Special Defense is relatively subpar, though it is alleviated by Filter and its typing. Also, before Aggron Mega Evolves, it has a really bad defensive typing and fails to check much.

Moves
========

Heavy Slam is Mega Aggron's main STAB move to handle Fairy-, Rock- and Ice-types like Mega Altaria, Sylveon, and Mega Aerodactyl. Considering Mega Aggron's heavy weight, Heavy Slam's Base Power is almost always 120. Earthquake in combination with Heavy Slam gives Mega Aggron nice type coverage, allowing it to target Fire-, Steel-, and Electric-types that resist Heavy Slam for great damage. Fire Punch alternatively strikes Scizor for more damage while still hitting other Steel-types for super effective damage. Stealth Rock is Mega Aggron's main way to support its team, being able to provide consistent chip damage whenever the foe switches in. Toxic allows Mega Aggron to cripple defensive Water-types like Suicune, Swampert, and Alomomola; it's also useful for baiting in Defoggers. Roar can also be used, as it allows Mega Aggron to both deter setup and rack up chip damage with Stealth Rock. Curse is an option that allows Mega Aggron to set up on Pokemon like Gliscor, which would otherwise beat it. Lastly, Avalanche can be used instead of Earthquake or Fire Punch to potentially OHKO Gliscor while always being able to OHKO Mega Sceptile.

Set Details
========

Maximum HP and Special Defense investment alongside a Careful nature make Mega Aggron as specially bulky as possible. Sturdy is used as Mega Aggron's pre-Mega Evolution ability because it can ensure Stealth Rock gets set up, even if Mega Aggron is being sacrificed. Aggronite is the only item option, allowing Aggron to Mega Evolve. An alternative EV spread could be 248 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD, which allows Aggron to survive certain hits at full health, like Adamant Life Orb Mamoswine's or Choice Band Krookodile's Earthquake and +2 All-Out Pummeling from Scizor.

Usage Tips
========

Mega Evolving as soon as possible is mandatory because it allows Mega Aggron to greatly improve its bulk and gain its Filter ability while checking opposing Pokemon. Setting up Stealth Rock is top priority because it allows Mega Aggron to immediately support its team by providing good, consistent chip damage. Mega Aggron likes to spread Toxic so it can cripple Pokemon that can wall it. Roar should be used to phaze the foe and rack up damage with Stealth Rock on the field. It's important to avoid unnecessary chip damage, as Mega Aggron lacks reliable recovery. It may be useful to stay in regular forme if Aggron is at full health, as this allows it to check a sweeper thanks to Sturdy. If the opportunity presents itself and Mega Aggron is low on health, it may be useful to use Wish with Sylveon and Alomomola to heal it up.

Team Options
========

Mega Aggron fits best on both balance and bulky offense teams due to the fact that it can check a lot of Pokemon and set up Stealth Rock. Pokemon like Latias, Hydreigon, Heracross, and Terrakion appreciate Mega Aggron's ability to check Fairy-types and provide chip damage from Stealth Rock, allowing them to net KOs that they otherwise could not. Since Mega Aggron lacks a reliable way to recover its health, Wish support from Pokemon like Sylveon and Alomomola is greatly appreciated to keep Mega Aggron healthy and make it less susceptible to chip damage. Gliscor, Mantine, Suicune, and Swampert can switch into Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-type attacks for Mega Aggron. Gliscor can also pivot out into Mega Aggron via U-turn. Mega Aggron gets annoyed by Spikes, as this strips away a big amount of its health, which means that Defoggers such as Gliscor, Florges, and Latias are great teammates.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

A set with Curse, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Heavy Slam turns Mega Aggron into a very threatening late-game sweeper. Thunder Wave may be used to cripple faster threats that may take advantage of Mega Aggron, such as Cobalion and Terrakion, but Mega Aggron normally prefers to run Toxic. Dragon Tail can be used in place of Roar because, in addition to phazing foes, it also deals damage, and due to the raw power of Heavy Slam, Fairy-types will find difficulty switching in to block it. Stone Edge allows Mega Aggron to hit Mantine and Moltres, which can completely wall the combination of Heavy Slam and Earthquake or Fire Punch. However, Mega Aggron lacks the moveslot to fit it in.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Powerful Special Wallbreakers**: Powerful special wallbreakers like Chandelure, Nidoking, and Mega Manectric can easily overwhelm Mega Aggron with their attacks. However, they struggle to switch into Earthquake.

**Fire-types**: Fire-type Pokemon like Chandelure, Moltres, and Darmanitan can threaten to 2HKO Mega Aggron, but they can't switch in well due to the fear of a Toxic or Earthquake.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types like Suicune, Swampert, and Alomomola can all pivot into Mega Aggron with ease but do not appreciate Toxic.

**Bulky Ground-types**: Bulky Ground-type Pokemon like Swampert, Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Mega Steelix are capable of switching into Mega Aggron. However, the former two have to scout for Toxic first, as it will greatly cripple them.

**Ground-types**: Powerful Ground-type Pokemon like Gliscor, Nidoking, Mamoswine, and Zygarde-10% can 2HKO Mega Aggron with their respective Ground-type STAB attacks after minor chip damage, which Mega Aggron is extremely susceptible to.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types like Heracross, Cobalion, and Terrakion can all threaten Mega Aggron with their STAB moves.

m-agg is only really safe against bulky uturn variants of zor and it almost always gets ohko'd by a boosted z superpower, so it definitely doesn't wall it. just remove that mention in the overview

mention specific targets of eq in moves

not sure if id list kyurem as a heavy slam target, it's se but it does 32-38 to variants without hp investment which is kind of embarrassing

you can kinda compress the toxic thing - you dont really need to say that they all wall it otherwise, but the main idea is that agg baits these mons in p easily otherwise (well except cune kinda if its running rest and if its vincune theres no way in hell its ever going to risk being toxic'd)

dont say "come in on an attack" for the sturdy thing, because if you switch in and that happens then ur still basically just letting ur aggron die. its only really useful for certain circumstances where u need to get rocks or a tox or whatever off

make a section for bulky waters and bulky grounds in c&c - for the first one, basically just the ones you had mentioned earlier in the analysis + swampert, and for the latter it should be stuff like gliscor, mega steelix, and hippo. mention that some of them don't like coming in on a toxic either

Overview
  • Mention its solid offensive presence for a defensive mon with base 140 atk
  • When comparing Aggron to Steelix bring up its wayyy better ability
  • Maybe bring up its bad defensive typing before Mega Evolving
Moves
  • I'd put Toxic as the only 4th move since it lets it actually pressure Defoggers like Rotom-W and Mantine and Water-types as a whole, but still mention Roar in moves
Usage Tips
  • Some of these just seem like rehashes of the Moves lines. You can still mention how its ideal to spread around Toxic and get up rocks early-game but you don't want to make it redundant
  • Mention how by staying in the base form at full HP, you can take advantage of Sturdy and potentially revenge kill or phaze a sweeper getting out of hand
  • Bring up Wish passing to Aggron if it gets weakened, provided the opportunity presents itself
Team Options
  • Add what types of teams Mega Aggron fits best on and why
  • Mega Aggron really hates Spikes, bring up Defog users. You could probably put it at the end of the Gliscor/Rotom/Mantine line since VoltTurn support isn't super relevant anyway
Solid, QC 2/3

Overview

Note that its special bulk is average at best, although Filter and its defensive typing can offset that somewhat. Say something about the detriments of being unable to run Leftovers. When you talk about its Attack preventing it from being too passive, you should also include mention of Mega Aggron's access to a strong STAB option and the coverage to complement it.

Wall

You could probably call this something like "Defensive" to be more consistent with other analyses. Mention that an alternate EV spread of 248 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD lets you match up much better against physical attackers (this spread either allows you to survive certain attacks from full, like Earthquake from Adamant Life Orb Mamoswine and Choice Band Krookodile and +2 Z-Superpower from Swords Dance Scizor, or simply gives you much better rolls against stuff like Cobalion's +2 Z-Close Combat.

"Mega Aggron likes to spread Toxic to cripple Pokemon that can wall Mega Aggron is on the field to cripple and wear it down over time."
Rephrase this and give examples of what Pokemon you'd use Toxic to hit.

You mention that Hydreigon, Terrakion, and Heracross benefit from Stealth Rock twice. Remove one.

Other Options

List Thunder Wave here. You mention it in the Overview and it deserves to be included regardless.

Final Notes

Go over this to make sure your writing flows effectively. You provide redundant information or use run-on sentences in multiple places. Fixing this before you send the analysis to GP will make the GP team's life easier.

I'd recommend removing any mention of Seismitoad, since there isn't much of a reason to use it without Rotom-W in the tier.

QC 3/3 after this is implemented.

I know this was already given 3 QC checks, but I'd like Curse to be mentioned in Moves as an option over either Toxic or Earthquake / Fire Punch. It's a great filler move, and the fact that it actually allows you to beat stuff like Gliscor 1v1 (even SD variants) gives it a huge boon if you've got your targets for other moves covered.

A set boasting Curse, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Heavy Slam turns Mega Aggron into a very threatening late-game win con. Thunder Wave may be used to cripple faster threats that may take advantage of it, such as Cobalion and Terrakion, but Mega Aggron normally prefers to run Toxic and thus can't fit it onto its moveset. Good overall, just look over your use of "however" and comma splices.

Bulky Water-types like Mantine, Suicune, and Swampert can switch into Fire-type attacks and can combat Ground-types for Mega Aggron.(didn't you already say this with mantine? maybe merge these)

A set boasting Curse, Rest, Sleep Talk, and Heavy Slam turns Mega Aggron into a very threatening late-game win con sweeper. Thunder Wave may be used to cripple faster threats that may take advantage of it, such as Cobalion and Terrakion, but Mega Aggron normally prefers to run Toxic and thus can't fit it onto its moveset. Dragon Tail can be used in place of Roar because while it also phazes out opponents foes, it also deals damage; due to the raw power of Heavy Slam, Fairy-types will find difficulty switching in.(AP),(RC) similarly to Roar, it allows Mega Aggron to deter set up and phaze opponents while also damaging the opponent, it is also very hard to block with Fairy-types considering the risk of taking a Heavy Slam instead. (for concision's sake) Stone Edge allows Mega Aggron to hit Mantine and Moltres, which can completely wall the combination of Heavy Slam and Earthquake or Fire Punch.(AP),(RC) However, Mega Aggron lacks the moveslot to fit Stone Edge in.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Powerful Special Wallbreakers**: Powerful special wallbreakers like Chandelure, Nidoking, and Mega Manectric can easily overwhelm Mega Aggron with their powerful attacks,(RC).(AP) However, they struggle to switch into Earthquake.

**Fire-types**: Fire-type Pokemon like Chandelure, Moltres, and Darmanitan can threaten to 2HKO Mega Aggron with a 2HKO, but they can't switch in well due to the fear of a Toxic or Earthquake.

**Bulky Water-types**: Bulky Water-types like Suicune, Swampert, and Alomomola can all pivot into Mega Aggron with ease, (RC) but do not appreciate however, they do get annoyed by Toxic. (a lot of "howevers" in recent text)

**Bulky Ground-types**: Bulky Ground-type Pokemon like Swampert, Hippowdon, Gliscor, and Mega Steelix are capable of switching into Mega Aggron,(RC).(AP) However, the former two have to scout for Toxic first, (AC) as it will greatly cripple them otherwise.

**Ground-types**: Powerful Ground-type Pokemon like Gliscor, Nidoking, Mamoswine, and Zygarde-10% can 2HKO Mega Aggron with their respective Ground-type STAB attacks after minor chip damage, which Mega Aggron is extremely susceptible to. which is not hard to achieve.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types like Heracross, Cobalion, and Terrakion can all threaten Mega Aggron with their STAB moves.

Good overall, just look over your use of "however" and comma splices.

[OVERVIEW]

Mega Aggron has one of the highest Defense stats in the game, allowing it to effectively wall a plethora of Pokemon in UU, including Mega Altaria, Serperior, and Mega Aerodactyl. Furthermore, its ability Filter allows it to reduces damage from super effective attacks, further bolstering its walling capabilities. In addition to Mega Aggron's good Defense, it also has offensive strength thanks to its decent base 140 Attack stat; this is especially potent when coupled with Heavy Slam and good coverage moves, such as Earthquake and Fire Punch. Mega Aggron can support its team very well with its wide variety of support moves, consisting of Stealth Rock, Roar, Toxic, and Thunder Wave. Unfortunately, its lack of reliable recovery and access to Leftovers mean Mega Aggron can be chipped down to the point where it fails to check the Pokemon it is supposed to check properly. Mega Aggron also faces competition from Mega Steelix as a physically defensive Steel-type, but Mega Aggron's superior defensive ability and pure Steel typing provides it with an edge. Mega Aggron's Special Defense is relatively sub-par but is alleviated by Filter and its typing. Also, before Aggron Mega Evolves, it has a really bad defensive typing and fails to check much.

Moves
========

Heavy Slam is Mega Aggron's main STAB move to handle Fairy-, Rock- and Ice-types like Mega Altaria, Sylveon, and Mega Aerodactyl. Considering Mega Aggron's heavy weight class, Heavy Slam's Base Power is almost always 120. Earthquake in combination with Heavy Slam gives Mega Aggron nice type coverage, allowing it to target Fire-, Steel-, and Electric-types that resist Heavy Slam for great damage. Fire Punch strikes Scizor for more damage while still hitting other Steel-types for super effective damage. Stealth Rock is Mega Aggron's main way to support its team, being able to set them up for its teammates. Toxic allows Mega Aggron to cripple defensive Water-types like Suicune, Swampert, and Alomomola; it's also useful for baiting in Defoggers. Roar can also be used, as it allows Mega Aggron to phaze the foe out; it both deters setup and wracks up chip damage with Stealth Rock. Curse may be used, as it allows Mega Aggron to set up on Pokemon like Gliscor, which would otherwise beat it. Avalanche also can be used instead of Earthquake or Fire Punch to potentially OHKO Gliscor while always being able to OHKO Mega Sceptile.

Set Details
========

Aggronite is the only item that allows Aggron to Mega Evolve. An alternative EV Spread could be 248 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD, which allows Aggron to survive certain hits at full health, like an Adamant Life Orb Mamoswine's or Choice Band Krookodile's Earthquake, or a +2 All-Out Pummeling from Scizor.

Usage Tips
========

Roar should be used to phaze the foe and wrack up damage with Stealth Rock on the field. It's important to avoid unnecessary chip damage, as it lacks reliable recovery. It may be useful to stay in regular form if Aggron is at full health, as this allows it to check a sweeper, thanks to Sturdy. If the opportunity presents itself and Mega Aggron is low, it may be useful to use Wish with Sylveon and Alomomola to heal it up.

Team Options
========

Mega Aggron fits best on both balance and bulky offense teams due to the fact that it can check a lot of Pokemon and set up Stealth Rock. Pokemon like Latias, Hydreigon, Heracross, and Terrakion appreciate Mega Aggron's ability to check Fairy-types and appreciate Mega Aggron's ability to provide chip damage from Stealth Rock, allowing them to net KOs that they otherwise could not. Since Mega Aggron lacks a reliable way to recover its health, Wish support from Pokemon like Sylveon and Alomomola is greatly appreciated from Pokemon to keep Mega Aggron healthy and make it less susceptible to chip damage. Gliscor, Mantine, Suicune, and Swampert can switch into Fire-, Fighting-, and Ground-type attacks for Mega Aggron. Gliscor can also pivot out into Mega Aggron via U-turn. Mega Aggron gets annoyed by Spikes, as this strips away a big amount of its health, (AC) which means that Defoggers such as Gliscor, Florges, and Latias are great teammates.
