Other Metagames M&M: Knockin' on heavens door

To listen to while you read

Prelude:

This is an old team built pre-blazikenite meta. However it still works quite well all things considered. I thought I'd make an RMT to bring it up to standards of the current M&M meta since I have no idea how that looks right now besides it being filled with pidgeotite Gengar's. So any help regarding that would be much appreciated.

Basis of the team & the idea behind it:

Bird spam

Building process:

Gyarados and Klang were chosen as the "birds" for the bird spam core of the team. Together they effectively overwhelm their common checks (ie; Blue-orb Skarmory, post-mega Pinsirite Cobalion, Heatran, Suicune, etc.) and cause a world of trouble in a meta that does not ordinarily have more than one check to flying -ate spam. Their typing's also allow them to deal well mostly well with opposing -ate abusers.

Keldeo was added next as a fast, hard hitting threat that could overwhelm teams and to form a "water spam" core with Gyarados. This allows the team to overload uncommon bird checks such as Latiasite Rotom-W and bulky waters such as Aggronite Milotic, etc - as bulky waters are often used as answers to Gyarados & Klang. Keldeo in conjunction with the bird spam core ensures that nothing can stop a +1 Gyarados or Klang. Gyarados and Klang in turn can peel for Keldeo, allowing a Keldeo sweep in the correct circumstances.

Rotom-W was added next to check impostered versions (ie; a scarfed ditto [which used to be popular]) of both my "birds" and to serve as a general pivot to bring in my threats safely. Latias was added next to check Keldeo, P-Groudon, Red-orb Raikou, etc. Latias also offers the team hazard support control, functions as a hard hitter, and offers the team healing wish.

Altarianite users were looking annoying, so I added defensive P-Groudon. It functions as this teams rocker, interim check to pidgeotite Gengar, an Arceus check, and a solid check to the rare geomancy Xerneas. It is also a solid water and electric check to take pressure off of Rotom-W & Latias.

Team indepth:

Gyarados @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
Happiness: 0
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Frustration
- Waterfall
- Taunt
- Dragon Dance

Salamencite is the chosen mega-stone of choice for Gyarados. With intimidate and the solid (+50) boost post-mega, Gyarados can set up versus nearly any of the physical attackers in the tier. After one dragon dance it hits very hard (reaches 607atk). Waterfall lets you hit Skarmory very hard with the help of rain and the ability to flinch an opponent is very helpful sometimes. Frustration serves as the flying stab on this set as salamencite grants aerilate post mega. It also has the added benefit of stopping ditto dead in its tracks if it happens to have maximum happiness. Taunt prevents non-magic bounce Blissey's from stopping your wall breaking with status moces, prevents skarmory from whirl-winding you out & allows Gyarados to function as a good anti-lead in some cases.
Simple evs are chosen as Gyarados simply needs to hit as hard as possible.
This is the first member of the bird spam core & underlying water-spam core.

Klinklang @ Pinsirite
Ability: Clear Body
Happiness: 0
EVs: 116 HP / 252 Atk / 140 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Frustration
- Wild Charge
- Shift Gear
- Substitute

Pinsirite is the mega stone of choice to give Klang a great typing in steel/flying, solid stats and aerilate post mega. Frustration is obligatory stab (post-mega) and wild charge allows Klang to take out annoying bulky waters for Keldeo / Gyarados and to deal heavy damage to Skarmory. After one shift gear with the given evs, Klang can outspeed deoxys speed. Substitute allows Klang to dodge status and gives this team a fighting chance versus blazikenite Landorus-T (dodging edges). It forms the second part of the bird spam core and benefits from Gyarados, as does Gyarados benefit from it. Klang can in some cases function as an emergency bird check to the opposing team & as an emergency fairy check by virtue of its typing and decent bulk.

Keldeo @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Focus Blast
- Secret Sword
- Hydro Pump

Pidgeotite is the chosen mega-stone of choice for Keldeo because of the great ability it offers (no-guard) and good special attack and speed boosts. Most people prefer lucarionite Keldeo (for good reason, as adaptability Keldeo is disgusting), but I prefer being able to spam high powered stabs with no consequence. Hydro pump is a hard hitting water stab that hits anything that does resist it for a lot. Focus blast is great special fighting stab that most teams aren't prepared for. Secret sword allows Kedeo to break past Blissey in conjunction with calm mind. Calm mind allows keldeo to wallbreak better and function as a win-condition. Keldeo forms the 2nd part of the water spam core and helps get rid of checks to the bird spam core.

Rotom-Wash @ Latiasite
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Toxic

Rotom-wash does in this team what it usually does in OU: Check birds, pivot and spread status. It does this in Mix and mega just as well as in OU. Latiasite is the chosen mega-stone of choice to give Rotom-wash great bulk boosts while keeping the levitate ability. Volt switch lets rotom-wash gain momentum, hydro pump is nice stab. Will-o-wisp allows Rotom to nerf most phsyical attackers while toxic ensures it isn't dead weight against an opposing P-don switch in. Max HP & def evs are chosen to allow it to function as effectively as a pivot as possible. As Rotom lacks reliable recovery, it should be played around with arbitarily & should only be switched in to things it 100% checks.

Latias @ Soul Dew
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 84 SpA / 176 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Healing Wish

The lati twins are great in the mix and mega metagame due to sould dew being an item that is usable. Soul dew allows Latias to fill many roles and function as the metaphorical glue of this team. The evs allow it to outspeed red-orb raikou while retaining maximum bulk. Because of Soul dew, Latias does not need many special attack evs to hit very hard so I focused more on the bulk side as Latias needs to do a lot every game. Draco meteor & psyshock are obligatory stab moves. Defog gets rid of hazards & healing wish allows us to rejuvenate a Pokemon on the team (which is often very necessary). Healing wish makes up for the lack of recovery on Rotom-W & P-don. Latias is generally used on this team as a general purpose check to electrics, grass types, opposing Keldeo's etc, but is most often just used as a red-orb Raikou check.

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 HP / 56 Def / 200 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Lava Plume
- Precipice Blades
- Thunder Wave
- Stealth Rock

This is the standard ubers spread for P-don. The set works just as well in this meta as in ubers and I saw no reason to change it up. Lava plume is nice stab and has a chance to burn. Precipice Blades is a good, hard hitting stab to hit things hard. Thunder-wave neuters things such as geomancy xern and functions as this teams speed control method. Stealth rock is obligatory hazards. P-don often needs to perform many roles in the team and is the teams principle check to Pidgeotite gengar (after something has been sleep foddered). Most often, however, Groudon is used as a check to altarianite abusers & electric types. It also functions well as a water check.

Threats

Pidgeotite Gengar
Pixilate spam
Blazikenite Landorus-T
