Let's Play! Let's Catch 'em All in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon! (Part 31 up: Wish Cave (2) & End))

Maybe a bit late, but I am still going to suggest some nicknames.

Snorunt- Nix, which means snow in Latin. Maybe Oni for Glalie, referring to its devilish nature.
Castform- Aer, meaning air, sky and sometimes weather.
Sneasel- Tachi, from the kamaitachi, the weasel demon sneasel is based on.
Whismur- Sonum, Cantus, Clamos; all meaning sound or loud in one way or another. *
Porygon- Exer, Encae or the obvious Error; All three derived form words that mean 'by mistake' or 'mistaken'.*
Abra- Mentis, Animus, Cordis; All meaning mind or intellect.*
Aron- Ferro, Chaly, Adamas; From Ferrum, Chalybs and Adamantis respectively, which all mean iron or 'as hard as steel'.*
Gulpin- Venum, meaning toxic, or Ceno, meaning 'to eat'. For its habits to eat to much and of course being a poison type. *
Geodude- Cotes, Silex or Saxum; meaning stone or rock.*
Elekid- Tono or Sulpur; meaning thunder,*
Venonat- Gnat, the insect it is based on. For Venomoth 'Tinea', the latin word for moth.
Granbull- Sith, from the celtic dog fairy 'Cu Sith'.
Ekans- Anguis or Colubra; meaning snake.*
Meowth- Dive or Laetu, latin words for rich.*
Igglybuff- Vesica, the latin word for balloon.
Miltank- Vacca, the female word for cow, as Miltank is a female-only species.
Kangaskhan- Salio, the latin word for jumping, as Kangaskhan always reminded me of a kangaroo.
Pinsir- Carabus, meaning beetle.
Lickitung- Linxi, a form of the verb lingere, meaning 'to lick'.
Makuhita-Ceroma or Lucta, meaning wrestler.*
Skarmory- Stympha, referring to the Stymphalian birds from the sixth labour of Heracles.

That is most of the list done, hope you like them and look forward to the next update! :P

(Note: a * indicates a nickname can also be used for a evolution.)

Sorry this update was so late. Two reasons: 1) end of the semester is ramping up and I'm having a lot more to do now that it is 2) well... some of the events in this update meant it didn't go as smoothly as planned. You'll know what I mean when you get there.

smogon account: unfortunately I've already committed to not naming the legendaries (and it'd bother me if I only did it with some and not others), otherwise I would lol
Mowtom: Pretty sure that was one of the suggested names that I just ended up using, so I couldn't tell you.
Hydrachomp: Awesome! Thanks a ton!!!

time to go to Mt. Faraway and break the game wide open!

yes yes I know

this dungeon is 40 floors!! so we'll have to be careful.

Music: Frosty Grotto

Recruits: Lunatone, Snorunt, Solrock, Golem (at a higher level), Marshtomp (same), Vigoroth (same), Castform, Croconaw (same)

Named Igloo.

This dungeon is treacherous. Thank Arceus for Trap Seer and Trap Avoider!

why is it SANDSTORMING when there is SNOW EVERYWHERE

SEE LOOK how ICY it is

is this even a mountain or just like a giant wall of ice

SPORE is TERRIBLE it is a very accurate sleep move that hits every ally in the room and i hate it

Named Dmitri.

... well, shit.

Igloo died, taking both my Reviver Seeds with her. This better not come back to bite me, because since I saved before entering the dungeon it'll mean I lose some of my stuff.

Holy shit I did not know it was possible to sleep this long. Dmitri died too :(

We're done but jesus that sucked

Floor 30. Here we are.

This thing gives a flat 10% boost to recruit rate if you hold it. It now enables me to recruit Groudon, Rayquaza, and any first-stage evolution (though the latter have only about a 3% chance of joining for now).

This opens the game up significantly.
When we get done with this dungeon, we're putting it to the test immediately.

we have Arrived
... ok but where'd all the snow and ice go

Wow that's not what I expected to hear

You have done well to come this far.
You have overcome countless challenges...
Fought through many dangerous situations...
and finally ascended to the very peak of Mt. Faraway!
Truly, only the chosen have reached the summit.
However!
This is not the end!

Okay, who's surprised? (I expect to see no hands)

Only when you overcome me in battle...
That is when this mountain is conquered!
This is the final challenge!
Here I come!

BRING IT ON!

I set Green to use Agility as Red uses Flamethrower. Ho-oh's Pressure makes it annoying when Red misses.

The next two hit true though as Green continues Agilispam. When we get to +3 speed (the max in this) I have Green use Bullet Seed instead. Ho-oh promptly dies at it. gg

... and that was it. Nothing else from Ho-oh after I won. I saw and defeated the mirage Pokémon... I guess that's enough?

Nope. Nope, we're going to go one step farther. Back to Mt. Faraway.

Named Igloo, maybe this one will survive?

nope :( alas

We're back!

see he agrees
Ho-oh is a cool dude yall

You have done well to come this far.
Truly, only the chosen have reached the summit.

And...
It is also your right to challenge me!
Surpass your own limitations...
And show me your power in its unbridled entirety! Come on!
I like Ho-oh, he's a good sport, just wants a good fight. We need more bosses like that.

lets go again!

ok this isn't actually surprising, Ho-oh has in fact a 99.9% chance to join the team, which becomes 100% if you're anywhere above level 30 or have the Friend Bow equipped.
Not nicknamed, as tradition (sorry smogon account!) It's level 50.

One thing left to do here before we move on.

Here's Ho-oh's Friend Area, a great place

do you see what I see

You've seen the mirage Pokémon?!
uh
about that lmao

(He jumps for joy after this.)
Spinda: Wh-wh-what sort of a Pokémon was it?!
... I see.
............ I see, I see.
... Ah... Understood. So, it is named Ho-Oh...
... yes. yes it is

Ah, I see indeed! Truly! Truly, I envy you!
... Wait! Huh?! You are! You are the one-and-only Ho-Oh?!
lol

He basically faints in amazement.

Waaaaaaaaaaaah!
My head... Is spinning... My head's spinning... Waaaaaah!
calm down there buddy

He faints again.

And you even came to my aid when I was down... Thank you...
But I... I'm feeling overcome by emotion.
Never... Never did I expect to meet the mirage Pokémon...
I feel giddily elated...
The lesson is we mustn't ever give up![/quote]
... Sure!

Because if you give up, that's when it ends!
Thank you!
You have inspired me to resume my travels!
\o/!

My meeting you... It will be a memory I will cherish forever!
I will keep the memory... in a special place deep in my heart! Farewell!

All's well that ends well, I suppose. :'D

Now... let's tie up some recruitment-related loose ends. Off to Sky Tower for what will be the last recruitment session there!

'Trespass?' Again? Us? Please.

You scaled the Sky Tower...
Now, you wish to challenge me to a battle?!
............ In destroying the falling star, I sustained injuries upon my body and pride...
To better protect my domain, I have made myself stronger.
And so that I may draw out my newly gained power...
I am now... Unleashing every bit of my might!
My power shall overwhelm... But you dare to stand up to it?
Sure why not

I commend your courage!

Kay so even with the recruitment bonuses we still have only a 1/8 chance of recruiting it. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later.

Third try, all right!

Rayquaza brings with it its own Friend Area: Stratos Lookout.

Here it is in its natural habitat. I love the art style here, wow.

Now let's go pick up Groudon too.

Hey, wouldja look at that. Attaching the Friend Bow right before fighting any potential middle-stage recruit paid off, eh?
Named Heavy G.

You didn't look like you were sleeping to me

I let rage run wild before... But I won't allow that again!
... and you're going to attack us anyway, got it

Those that disturb my sleep... Shall be crushed!
No matter who it may be!
k cool
lol hahaha holy shit I threw 1 Iron Thorn and used 1 Flamethrower and it died

Didn't join the team though. Let's try again.

This was either the 7th or 8th try, I lost count.
Not nicknamed.
Groudon brings with it the friend area Volcanic Pit.

Here it is.

I've got some missions to take at Pitfall Valley, so let's get those out of the way.
Yesterday I spent some time working on a Microsoft Word document to put together the most efficient way to recruit Pokémon: which dungeons have them at the highest level if I need to evolve them, etc. I still have a fair few to recruit from Pitfall Valley, it seems: Spearow, 2 Swablu, Doduo, Scyther, and Skiploom. Like I said at the beginning of the LP, I won't be turning down recruits that aren't "ideal" unless I feel like it'd be that much harder to deal with the non-ideal recruit than it would be otherwise (like in the case of Shiftry, where finding a Leaf Stone is honestly probably far worse than just recruiting a Shiftry directly), but hopefully I won't get too many non-optimized recruits.
The original point though was that I still have a fair few things to find in Pitfall Valley, so I'll be back here a lot. Stormy Sea, too.

Named Byssis.

Named Robert.

Pitfall Traps can go to hell :(

Named Nightmare.

this is long overdue lmao

niiiice

Let's check out Unown Relic. It has 11 floors of nothing but Unown and I need all 28 of them for total completion.

Music: Stormy Sea

Recruits: ... do you really need me to tell you this?

I have 28 Unown to get, and instead of just getting all 28 of them in one fell swoop I'll break it up a bit for ~variety~ and try to get 6 per update

Named Chase. Naming scheme here is the attacks each Unown had from the Neo Discovery/Revelation/Destiny expansions of the TCG: http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Unown_(TCG)

Named Vanish.

Named Zoom.

Named Reassure.

named ! lol

Named Want.

Now I'mma go ahead and discuss Wonder Mail codes.

So, as has been implied by some of my prior discussions of this game, there are version-exclusive Pokémon in this game, much as there are in the main-series games. However, this game doesn't have trading (would that even work?) so getting version-exclusives looks very different. We get Wonder Mail codes.

The first thing is to go to the Wonder Mail option on the main menu...

... where you'll be prompted to enter a password.

In order to get version exclusive Pokémon, you have to take a mission that includes one of those Pokémon. Since missions include only Pokémon you have battled before, you can't ever get a mission that includes a version exclusive for the other game in your own game. In other words, you have to get a friend with the other game to find a mission with a version exclusive and give you the code for it.

I grabbed my codes off some FAQ site. They're probably generated (meaning they're made with one of the Wonder Mail generators instead of drawn from the game proper) but whatever #effort

There are five pairs of version exclusives. Here, they're in order of Red exclusive/Blue exclusive.
Roselia/Aipom, Plusle/Minun, Mantine/Lapras, Porygon/Porygon2, Feebas/Magikarp (and by extension Milotic/Gyarados). So I need to take missions with each of the former pair in order to unlock them. Unlocking them will just add them to the dungeon they appear in; I still need to go through the trouble of recruiting them myself.

Passwords suck btw

The first three missions listed here will get me Roselia, Plusle, and Mantine.

hooray

double hoor- W O W mantine is huge

Here to get Plusle, Porygon, and Feebas.
Named this Rattata Rodentia.

Named Cathode.

Since I've unlocked the version exclusives, let's go try to pick up the ones I can - Feebas (and Magikarp), Plusle, and Roselia.

Named Dahlia.

Named Windmill.

Named Positive.

Off to Waterfall Pond to attempt to recruit Magikarp and Feebas. I ditched Green for this and brought two additional party members (Longcat and Rodentia) along in the hopes of leveling them up to evolve them.

... PSA: Don't ever do this it takes way too goddamn long to find either (their spawn rates are about 2-3% at best) and the first one you find doesn't even fucking join the team
nor does the second
or the third
or the fourth
or the fifth

after this, which is the product of many a reset, I get to do this though

BACK TO THE GRIND TRYINA GET A MAGIKARP

... or the sixth

i wish i had this in skype log format, when I saw this I started screaming to my bf and he got confused as hell and asked me if there was a point to my screaming, at which point I explained that I had finally recruited a Magikarp lmao
we then decided to name it Emone

... IT FUCKING DIED.

SKSJKDAKJLAFSJKFKLFKLFJGKLAGJKLJKLGJFKLGJKLGJKLGJKGLJAKLJGJKLAGJKGLFJAFH KILL ME

Okay, let's go again, this time as soon as I get a Magikarp I'm Escape Orb'ing the hell out

Eighth one fails to join

RODENTIA KILLED THE NINTH ONE WITH A QUICK ATTACK AND THE NINTH ONE SHOWED UP RIGHT AFTER THE EIGHTH GHEHHRHRHHGGGDJKDSJKFDSFKSJFKJFKJDFKJDKFJDKJSS

Found a Feebas. It failed to join. Then I ran out of time in the dungeon

let's go again
current count: 9 magikarp, 1 feebas

OKAY
ESCAPE OOOOOOORB

(named Emone)

YASSSSSSSSS this is the next one I find and it doesn't take very long either!
named Randy.

Now for Feebas.

Wow I didn't even have to search for this one, and it's in a 1% floor too. I'm pleasantly surprised.
Named Duckling.

One more Feebas to get. I can do this.

Then, on my way to get to the last floors where Feebas are, I ran into two Magikarp without even searching, one of which wanted to join my team without me having the Friend Bow on. I swear this game has it out for me.

I don't run into a Feebas on my trip... let's go again.

After doing this of course. See, the trips haven't been entirely fruitless!

YES
WE ARE DONE HERE

Named Sera.

The experience gained in the dungeon allows me to do this with Lou.

Last thing for this update: some missions in Howling Forest. While I try to recruit Pidgey and Exeggcute. Which are... almost certainly the hardest things to recruit that aren't Kecleon. They're even harder than Magikarp and Feebas.

(To anyone who says Chansey I will cross that bridge when I get to it)

Pidgey have about a 1.5% spawn rate at best, so I'm glad this a) didn't take terribly long and b) worked. I plan to get Pidgeotto and Pidgeot by recruiting two Pidgeotto (which, despite having a much lower recruit rate, are hella common in Mt. Thunder) when I'm higher leveled. (A large portion of the time spent on this update was me attempting to recruit Pidgeotto in Mt. Thunder, and I had absolutely no success over many a try, that's why this part is so delayed. I decided as a result to hold off on second evolutions until I'm at least level 70.)

Named it Birb at boyfriend's suggestion.

That's one out of the way, but... it's Exeggcute that is the worst. It appears on floor 14, and only 14, and has a 0.63% spawn rate, and I need two.

Let's go back and try to get two Exeggcute before we're done with the update. It'll make my life easier in the future and we're already on an "impossibly rare Pokémon" kick anyway, why not?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Named Benedict by the boyfriend.

holy shit this happened on the same trip i literally cannot believe

LISTEN GUYS

I'VE PLAYED THIS GAME A FEW TIMES OK

I'VE ONLY EVER GOTTEN ALL THE MONS ONCE BUT I'VE TRIED BEFORE THAT A HANDFUL OF TIMES AND ESPECIALLY TO GET THOSE HOWLING FOREST FIENDS

IT

NEVER

HAPPENS

THIS

QUICKLY

i cannot overstate this in the slightest, it took literally two trips to get my Pidgey and two Exeggcute that's RIDICULOUS

just that the exeggcute even showed up to begin with but also that they both joined my team, Exeggcute have a standard rate of 6% which goes up to 28.5% with my bonuses and that's... still less than one in three

what the shit

(i named it smashmouth after boyfriend's suggestion :B)

Like seriously look at this screenshot.
I feel like i have a photograph of Bigfoot here, god damn.

... Now that that's done what do I do with my life. I didn't think this far ahead.

Actually no we're just gonna stop on this ultra-triumphant note and do stuff next time :B

Next time: I attempt Buried Relic and head back to the Fields!

wow I didn't know that Spinda would act differently if you speak to him with Ho-oh...

I also want to express my hate and jealousy about Exeggcute... While I find Pidgey really easy to get (always meet one randomly at least, and high recruit rate), Exeggcute is arguably way harder to get than Kecleon ;_;

I'm curious about your "To anyone who says Chansey I will cross that bridge when I get to it", will you just Wish it? If not, I'm really interested to know the tip, Chansey being two of the five Pokémon I still have to catch in my run.

Vinc2612: trust me I hate and am jealous about myself for Exeggcute too :V It is definitely harder to get than Kecleon, speaking as someone who got a Kecleon
Last time I did this type of thing I wished Chansey. I kind of don't want to have to do that again but Chansey is borderline impossible otherwise I think, I'd be impressed to know if there's a single human on this planet who did. Seriously what the hell were they thinking.
What are the others you're missing?

Anyway, today we're going to Buried Relic.

Buried Relic is the first 99-floor dungeon we've attempted so far, so this will be... fun. Yup.

However, there is a chance we don't need to through all 99 floors to complete the dungeon. You see, this dungeon is Special because it has Mew in it. More specifically, Mew can be found in floors 36-98 if conditions are right (and I'll make sure they are). Mew is exceedingly rare: it has a less than 1% spawn rate (except for floors 94-98 where it goes up to 1.22%, and unlike every other Pokémon can only show it up if it's part of the floor's initial spawn, or through Monster House. So you're less likely to run across it because of the fact it can't spawn in on its own. That said, 63 floors is a shitton of floors; I've never had trouble at least finding Mew in that time before. We'll see if it remains true.

Because it's a 99-floor dungeon, you don't really want to dawdle much lest you run out of supplies. Mew, however, makes itself known because it has Transform and may use it randomly, and if it does you get a message saying so at the bottom of the screen, which will obviously let you know a Mew is somewhere on this floor.

In order to beat Buried Relic, you have to make it through all 99 floors. However, if you recruit Mew on your first trip, you'll immediately be teleported out of the dungeon and it will be considered complete. I've done this a couple times, so I know. Let's hope it happens!

mrrr I don't want this but yes

Music: Buried Relic

Recruits: Golbat, Sneasel, Wynaut, Machop, Whismur, Hoothoot, Porygon, Gastly, Drowzee, Abra, Porygon2, Aron, Gulpin, Geodude, Ditto, Meditite, Makuhita, Sandshrew, Mew, Kadabra, Elekid, Mr. Mime, Pupitar, Rhyhorn, Shiftry (at a higher level), Mawile, Graveler, Machoke, Haunter, Golem (same)... and three other legendaries.

Of course, I've already met like half of these in other dungeons or recruited them already. The ones that are (effectively - because if there's a choice between recruiting from a level 1 dungeon and recruiting from a normal dungeon there's literally no reason to prefer the level 1 dungeon) exclusive to this dungeon are Sneasel, Porygon(2), Gulpin, Makuhita, Machop, and the legendaries.

I have space to recruit a single Pokémon in addition to Mew, so I take Tachi the Sneasel here.

Where are the legendaries, you ask?

Hello!
This is floor 15.

EXTERMINATE!
INTRUDER ALERT!
EXTERMINATE!
the regis are daleks i see

Fight time!
... it's not hard at all.

See that Rock Part? Each of the Regis drops a Part. I need all 3 if I want to get Mew.

Something fell from Regirock's body.
Regirock was apparently guarding this item.
... thanks

Floor 25 holds Regice. Sensing a pattern?

Regice says the same shit as Regirock and dies to one Flamethrower. solid

The Ice Part, naturally. Again, sensing a pattern?

And the last one, on floor 36.
It also dies in two hits.

And drops the Steel Part.

Picking up the Steel Part, we get this.

By finding the Rock Part, Ice Part, and Steel Part...
All three parts are yours!
... yes?

Oh? The three parts... They're reacting to each other?

[fit together...]

and became a Music Box!
so, a rock bit, an ice bit, and a steel bit make a music box
... if you say so game

The Music Box only needs to be in the Toolbox for it to attract a special something!
Yeah, this is accurate. Use it, and it'll break and Mew won't be available. So we just gotta keep it in our inventory as we finish out the dungeon.

Let's go.

well that monster house certainly didn't spawn a mew lmao

rip tachi :( i will be back!!!!

Named Sulpur.

I like this dungeon's oft-changing design.

NOOOOO
rip sulpur :(

This happened not long after though. Named Corona.

Oh. Oh dear. Here we go.
Mew has about at 23% chance of joining me.
Let's see what happens.

I am fairly confident that this is the Mew.

it was Mew but it did not join me :( alas. I will be back for you!

It is possible for Mew to spawn more than once in this dungeon, but I'm not expecting it to with about ten floors left.

Corona got killed in this monster house >:(

I stand thoroughly corrected about Mew not spawning again. Okay, attempt #2, let's go.

Blegh. No dice.

Green grew to level 70. This gives him a 15% bonus to recruit things. If I find Mew in the next two floors I might need to switch to him as leader to try for Mew lol

I don't though. Ah well. We'll be back again sometime in the future. Probably not in this update, though. This took a couple of hours to do.

That said though we are about to complete our first 99-floor dungeon so that's exciting at least!!!

I've only ever done this maybe once, if at all. The other times I usually just recruit Mew before the end of the dungeon. So this is new for me.

For the time being, I have some other legendaries to recruit. Let's start with Fiery Field.

[After this point in the update my original commentary got lost so what follows is a reconstruction]

Blah blah I lost this but Entei says some shit about how we're not welcome here and he's gonna wreck us. Bitch I am a Fire-type I am totally welcome here, shut up and join my team.

... Even with the Friend Bow, it took until the 7th try to recruit Entei. In the meantime, I recruited all the following Pokémon:

Named Char, unfortunately died :(

I got a second Char though and that one stuck around.

Named Karma.

named Mark bc Mark from The Room was just a big chicken :B

Named Erika because I decided this Machoke is a girl, dammit!

I also took some Pokémon out to Fiery Field and managed to evolve them:

Named Scorch, my typical Blaziken nickname.

Then, finally, on the 7th try, Entei joined my team!

I also got a Quilava named Mr. Danger (long story that got lost with the update) but that screenshot seems to have vanished.

Took some missions at Stormy Sea.

Named ShellSmash.

Red grew to level 70, meaning all Pokémon now have a 15% bonus on their recruit rate.

Named Felix.

Then I went to Mt. Steel to clear that out of recruit options: four Tyrogue and one Pinsir.

Doesn't really matter which one is named what for these images. They are Jackie, Bruce, Leo, and Griff. Jackie and Bruce I'm sure you can guess, Leo will be Hitmontop, and Griff will stay Tyrogue.

Named Carabus.

Then I went to Solar Cave to get two Kadabra.

And a Kirlia I guess. Named Nijinsky.

Named Animus.

Named Cordis.

[after this is where I resumed writing the update with new material]

Okay... now that this happened, some possibilities open up to us.

See, in this game, there are three dungeons called the level 1 dungeons. In them, your party is reverted to level 1, given their level 1 movesets, and have their IQ set back to the default. These dungeons are the hardest in the game, and for good reason.
One of them, Wish Cave, has a few unique recruits and a dungeon boss after 99 floors.
One of them, Joyous Tower, has many unique recruits and some uncommon items.
The last, Purity Forest, is the hardest challenge in the game but has a... legendary reward.

I'll need to take on all three if I wish to finish this. The best Pokémon for level 1 dungeons are certain fully evolved three-stage or stone-evolving Pokémon, which have solid movesets at level 1, and Kecleon, which is always good. Most of the best options I can't get quite yet. But Alakazam I can get early, and I have now. Meaning... in the near future we will be taking on some of the level 1 dungeons.

Right now, though, we go to Unown Relic for today's 6 Unown.

Named Darkness.

Named Engage.

Named XXXXX lmao this unown is not for children

Named Search.

Named Help.

Named Increase.

Last thing for this update: two trips (with a mission!!!) to Pitfall Valley to clear that dungeon out for good because it has pitfall traps and I hate it.

Named "Not Ho-oh" and hopefully this one will not die.

Named Nefela.

Not Ho-oh didn't die :B

Named Aegon bc the dragon had three heads and yeah that's a stretch
(three guesses as to what book series I just finished and the first two don't count)

Oh for fuck's sake that's the reason I hate this dungeon. Resetting...

New Aegon. Aegon II if you will :V

Named Bloom.

Now to have these not die before I finish the dungeon!

... I did it :B

I lied this wasn't the end of the update.
Quilava is named Flametail after my best friend whose favorite Pokémon is Typhlosion, and Machoke is named
[4/16/17, 12:30:20 PM] Altissimo: i need a nickname for a Machamp
[4/16/17, 12:30:33 PM] boyfriend: maCHAMPION

Great update as always! I'm really enjoying following along with this.

Just one note, I actually don't think it's possible to recruit Mew if you don't have its Friend Area already.

Two Chansey, two Ponyta and Jirachi (+ approx. 10 evolutions) is what I need. I wait for Jirachi in case I give up on getting Chansey the regular way.

If you have a tranform orb (no clue about the English name sorry), the one that changes the specie of the Pokémon, you can use it on floor 98 and golem can only become Mew.

lucariomaster2: Yeah, you're right about that. I bought all the Friend Areas way back right after I beat the game, though, so that's not an issue. I check to make sure at the beginning of this update. But wouldn't that be something? Imagine I was wrong and I had forgotten that!
Vinc2612: lmao those are the last 5 I got too. All through Jirachi wishing, except for Jirachi itself obviously.
Protip: Make sure you are Lucario Rank and have everything evolved before using Jirachi's wishes because otherwise you might get fucked over when you use the wish, I know this from personal experience :B
I think it's Transform Orb in English. That's amazing holy shit I'm going to have to try that.

[Accidentally deleted this screenshot; it was a black screen with “One day…”]
oh hello

In a small cave in the distant west...

Charizard: Heh! What's with you? You're gonna whine about it now?
Let me think - wasn't it you who wanted to explore this place?
Saying you'd found a new cave and all!
Blastoise: Yeah... I just happened to be swimming by in the sea when I spotted this cave...
well if you were in the sea how did you just happen to pass a MASSIVE CAVE, a LAND FEATURE

Blastoise: I didn't expect it to be a dungeon this rough... Gasp, gasp...
Charizard: Heh!
I thought a different combo would be a good change of pace...
But you're pathetic! So much for Mr. Big Shot Blastoise!
cutting right where it hurts, Charizard, not cool man

Blastoise: Wh-what!
Call me pathetic, will you?!
What you've seen of me so far is nothing!

oh he mad

Wroooooooaaaaar!
[forgot to get the screenshot here but he starts shooting off some Hydro Pumps]

Charizard: Hahaha! There! You're still feeling frisky!
I don't know that frisky is the word I'd use but w/e

That's the spirit! I think we're getting close. Let's keep it going.
Blastoise: ...! So you did that to motivate me... ... Thanks.
bro but what if Blastoise had used Hydro Pump on YOU

Charizard: Hey, no problem. Let's move!

Blastoise: ... No. That's not it.
... Just now. Did you hear something?
I thought I heard a voice...
Charizard: ... No? I don't hear anything.
........ Is it........... you?

Is it you?!

well shit

Who are you?! Show yourself!
Voice: Me...?
I was... Engineered...

ok taking guesses as to what this Pokémon is and the first two don't count

The most powerful of all Pokémon!

WELL SHIT THEY ARE EXPLODING

Charizard: Gwaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Blastoise: Gyaaaaaaaaah!

holy scene cuts batman

Who would be the most powerful Pokémon of all?
Lombre: What, there's someone besides Rayquaza?
Wynaut: Is that it?
Lombre: Well, sheesh, Rayquaza destroyed a star!
Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!
Lombre: Who else but Rayquaza would be able to do that?
idk like deoxys maybe??? who know

Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!
Bellsprout: But there's Groudon. Isn't that tough?
Groudon didn't even talk. And both of them are on my team.

Wynaut: Is that true?
Bellsprout: Why, even Alakazam's team couldn't defeat it!
But you know who did?

Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!
Bellsprout: Legend has it that Groudon shaped continents. It's an incredible Pokémon!
what about arceus yall

Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!

Lombre: We're having a little argument about who the most powerful Pokémon happens to be.
Red, what do you think?

there is only ONE ACCEPTABLE ANSWER HERE and if you dont know what it is get out of my lp :V

Lombre: ........................
Bellsprout: ........................
Wynaut: ......................
Wobbuffet: ......................

W O W what the fuck

Lombre: ... Well, uh... I know you want to become tougher, but...

I LITERALLY BEAT BOTH OF THE OTHERS
MULTIPLE TIMES
MADE THEM JOIN MY TEAM NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND
I AM DAENERYS TARGARYEN FOR FUCKS SAKE

anyway

I remember the first time I got to this part of the game, I was maybe 14 or 15 and I was insanely mad that the others didn't recognize the main character's contribution in saving the world by beating up Rayquaza and Groudon. Like come on. The least you could have done is say "I mean I know you beat them up but like... they did more" which would be fair, not this awkward silence shit I was actually greeted with.

I promptly went to my best friend to complain about the unfair reception the game gave me.

Wynaut: ... Um...
I heard this story...
Somewhere in the world is a Pokémon that was made for fighting.
Lombre: A Pokémon... made for fighting?
Wynaut: Yup.
They say it has so much fighting power...
All it can think of is defeating anything it meets.
Yanno Psychic/Fighting Mega Mewtwo was a bit odd at first but in retrospect, like with this dialogue, it works out okay

Bellsprout: Th-that's rather a savage Pokémon! I shudder to think...
Where might such a horrid Pokémon be now?
Wynaut: Rumors say... it is storing its power...
rumors also said really dumb things about me being the center of the Ninetales legend so shut your mouth and find Real Facts ya pleb

They say it is sleeping in a dungeon somewhere...
Why everyone gotta be asleep to harness power anyway?

How conveniently timed!

oh, uh, okay

Lombre: Charizard... And Blastoise...
Bellsprout: Oh my gosh! What happened to you?!
Lombre: They're hurt bad... What exactly happened?!

... We were wiped out by that Pokémon...
Lombre: Wh-what did you say?!
Charizard: Grgh... There's no mistake... It said it was born to fight...
... But that Pokémon's power... There was nothing fake about it...
... It really was the most powerful... ... Gfah!

well shit he dead

Blastoise: There is a cave... far in the west... It's there...
I never want... to go back again... Gfwoh!

Bellsprout: They need help now!
who's the healer in this universe anyway?

I'll go get someone!
BUT WHO
Bellsprout runs off the bottom of the screen.

Lombre: ... Wow, it really exists... A Pokémon that tough...
... But, you know? So we now know that Pokémon is in the Western Cave...
Surely you're not thinking of going, Lombre?

I still don't feel like going out there...
k good

Going anywhere like that'd be too scary by half!
Wynaut: I'm scared too...
Wobbuffet: Wobbuffet!

The Western Cave is now open for exploration!
Well... we know who's going. Right?

First though: I do have Mew's Friend Area, so the only issue with recruiting it is the luck factor of recruits.
Imagine if every time you failed to catch a Pokémon in a main game it fled and you had to hunt it down again. That's what this is like.

Anyway...

Music: Sinister Woods

Recruits: Murkrow, Venonat, Snubbull, Ekans, Meowth, Smeargle, Igglybuff, Tauros, Miltank, Shiftry (at a higher level), Kangaskhan, Ivysaur, Bayleef, Pinsir, Lickitung, Grovyle, Skarmory, Absol, Feraligatr (same), Swampert (same), Blastoise (same), Mewtwo

You can't recruit Mewtwo on the first visit, so we're free to pick up two recruits here. The ones exclusive to this dungeon are: Snubbull, Ekans, Meowth, Igglybuff, Miltank, Kangaskhan, Lickitung, Skarmory (and of course Mewtwo).

This is probably the hardest non-level-1 dungeon in the game. I remember the first time I tried this dungeon, I was using my starter and partner whose levels were in the 40s or 50s. The going went fine until I got to the last twenty floors. Then I lost all of my Reviver Seeds (I had, like, eight) in a very short time and failed.
I didn't try that dungeon again for a long, long time.

Named Muchmoney after the lady from the anime who had a Snubbull yes I know it evolved into a Granbull shut up

Named Brian.

gr8 i am so pleased about this happening on floor six

This dungeon has a lot of scenery changes as we go deeper. I must say, I like the flower theme... though I'm not too sure why there are so many flowers in a cave.

Now we're in real cave territory.

Floors 50-60 may have Tyranitar, which means never-ending sandstorms, hooray

sweet relief holy shit fuck sandstorms. I'm glad I only need to brave them one more time, when I come back to get Mewtwo.

I wonder if the implication is supposed to be that Mewtwo cloned Charizard and Blastoise and populated the dungeon with them because if so that's p cool

ahahaha holy shit I can't believe I actually managed to keep Muchmoney and Brian alive through the entire dungeon. ... In part due to the fact that Reviver Seeds are pretty common in this dungeon but uh whatever

Let's see if they stay alive through the battle to come :v

excuse u what

... Who... disturbed... me... in my... sleep...? Was it you?
well NOW it is fucker

Mewtwo descends from the sky like in the movie.

Yeah bro we know now get over your angst already kthx

I... have secluded myself here in suspended animation.
Would you like to know why? It's quite simple...
not really but im sure ur gonna tell me anyway

If anyone - such as you - were to come along...
I could defeat them at full power! Come on!
bro is there REALLY anything to be gained over killin someone weaker than u
i aint weaker but just sayin

AIGHT LETS FUCKIN GO M8

First turn: Standard... Green uses Agility as Red fires off a Flamethrower. Muchmoney is set to use Lick. It doesn't really matter though bc the next Flamethrower is a crit and Mewtwo dies immediately. Fucking rekt

Aaaaaand... it's time to immediately turn around and complete that dungeon again for Mewtwo! Joy

I'm bringing Tempest the Dragonair along because Western Cave is the best dungeon in the game in terms of raw experience and I'm going to need to start getting some of these Pokémon up to high levels to evolve them. I can always rearrange my party when it comes time to face Mewtwo at the end.

Named Laetu. Another Meowth to keep alive for the whole dungeon. Hooray!

I forgot this the first time I was here, even as I remembered to bring a Key.

This is needed to evolve Feebas in this game.

Being level 80 gives a 17.5% bonus to recruit rate.

is this the same spiel as last time
(not quite)

... Who... disturbed... me... in my... sleep...? Was it you?
I... have secluded myself here in suspended animation.

I am Mewtwo. A Pokémon created only to fight... And...
The most powerful Pokémon of all!
I beat you in two hits before, doesn't that kind of prove that isn't true?

Anyway, I set Green to use Agility and Laetu to do nothing lol as Red fires off an Iron Thorn to start.
Mewtwo approaches and then dies in two hits. gg

Mewtwo has a 99.9% recruit rate, which is 100% with my level bonuses, so this is guaranteed to happen as long as there's space in my party, which is why I sent Tempest home.

Mewtwo in its Friend Area.

Laetu leveled up enough for this, and the Beauty Scarf means we can evolve Sera too.

Next: let's get Raikou in Lightning Field!

Named Android.

Named Drew.

The AI pathing is fucking terrible in this game so even though I told Android to get away from enemies it kept walking right back into them and there was nothing I could do. >:/

Named Sulpur.

rip Drew :( wow I cannot keep things alive anymore, wtf happened to me??

All those who enter... I show no mercy, no matter what!
With my electric bolts...
I will devastate you again!
cool

ahahah first try hell yeah

... unfortunately we have a fair few recruits to grab from Lightning Field still. Montage time!

[deleted screenshot of getting a Pikachu]
Android (the second), Layla, Jasmine, Lightning, Drew, and Rachel.

And a handful of evolutions. (Raichu in particular is very helpful for level 1 dungeons...)

Next up: Let's clear Sinister Woods out of recruits. (I know this update is incredibly recruit-heavy and it's not particularly fun to just sit and watch me name things. Unfortunately, that's what a lot of the updates until the end are going to be. I'll try to get some more interesting stuff...!)

Believe it or not, the only place in the game to recruit Swinub, an Ice/Ground type, is in ... Sinister Woods. I dunno either.
Named Sara.

well that was p fast. Named Pryce.

oh lmao this will be fun

(Taking missions at Sinister Woods in addition to recruitment.)

Fun fact: Sudowoodo stand perfectly still in their square until you move adjacent to them. They don't wander around the dungeon like other Pokémon. It's a nice touch.
Named Fauxliage.

I think Slakoth are always sleeping when you find them, too. Again, another nice touch. The same is true of Kadabra and possibly Abra as well.

Named Sid.

Silcoon and Cascoon always stay put, even if you recruit them. So... time to leave Green with Miriam here while I continue to hunt :v

ahahahahah are you FUCKING kidding me this is literally the next thing I fight. These things have a 6% chance to join the team, what the hell?
Named Fortunato as both a shitty pun and a reference to the luck involved with getting this to join my team immediately :v
Fun fact: when Silcoon and Cascoon are forced to move, they just sort of... glide. It's a little unnerving actually.

Named Charlotte.

Named Luna.

Named Pavarotti and if you get this reference props

hooray, no need to train these cocoons that can't move :v

This update is running rather long so I won't do much more. I'm going to pick up today's Unown and then try to get the remaining Moon Stones (and a Beldum) I need from Solar Cave, and that's it.

Named Find.

[accidentally lost this screenshot of recruiting an Unown K]
Named Keep.

Named Bear.

[accidentally lost THIS screenshot of recruiting an Unown O]
Named Observe.

Named ? bc thats a gr8 name.

Named Normal.

Last thing... I need to get 3 Moon Stones and a Beldum from Solar Cave. Unfortunately, Moon Stones are not terribly common, so I'll spare you all the pain of going through the dungeon... but I will count how many times it takes to get all 3 :V

First trip, named I7.

ugh I have 3 sun stones in storage and I only need 1, can i just swap all of them for moon stones?? come onn stop giving me sun stones

well that's nice i guess!!!! yay

This is the third trip. One...

Two...

Three. Hooray!

And we'll end with some evolutions.

Next time: Silver Trench!

Upcoming recruits: Wailmer, Luvdisc, Remoraid, Clamperl, Chinchou, Lileep, Relicanth, Krabby, Lapras

smogon account: By the time you made that post I'd already recruited both Wailmer that I needed and nicknamed them. :( Sorry!

Time to go to Silver Trench!

... though we first have to unlock it.

They say a whirlpool stretches from sea to sky in a colossal tornado.
is this actually just The Day After Tomorrow

It is said to be near the Legendary Island Friend Area.
... well shit.

It hasn't caused any damage so far as I know... But it does concern me.
uh I feel like sea Pokémon might be very damaged by this??????

The Legendary Island belongs to your team.

... I GUESS

Ah, good. You accept the job.
this wording feels incredibly coercive lmao

I hope for the best from you.
COOL LETS GO

Moltres and Zapdos leave their parts of the island and join Articuno.

I can't really show this in screenshots but they're kind of like. Attacking nothing.

which creates the mythical Mist Stone omg u gais we finally found it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Articuno: When the three powers merge as one...
Zapdos: The guardian of the sea is said to arise.
Moltres: Our arrival at the Legendary Island...
Zapdos: The three of us caused the sea guardian to awaken.
It is what caused whirlpools to grow into tornadoes.
Articuno: I have hear the Vortex Stone.
... oh it's not the mist stone :(

Articuno: Bearing it, you will gain passage through the sea's tornadoes...
It will lead you to a place called the Silver Trench.
ok but how does this work

Zapdos: There, you will find the guardian of the sea.
Moltres: Now go. The guardian on the sea awaits you.

COOL

And...
Gained access to the Silver Trench!
So yeah if you didn't figure it out, Silver Trench requires recruiting all three legendary birds to access.

In order to go to Silver Trench, our team needs both a) the HM Dive and b) a Water Pokémon. You can just send the Water Pokémon home as soon as you enter the dungeon, which is what I normally do, but I decided this time to bring along a Pokémon I need to evolve in the hopes of getting it experience. Here, it's our Wartortle, Shellshock.

Music: Silent Chasm

Recruits: Wingull, Shellder, Tentacool, Omanyte, Qwilfish, Kabuto, Corsola, Slowpoke, Seel, Spheal, Horsea, Anorith, Krabby, Staryu, Grimer, Sealeo, Seadra, Carvanha, Tentacruel (at a higher level), Wailmer, Luvdisc, Dratini, Remoraid, Octillery (at a higher level), Clamperl, Chinchou, Lileep, Relicanth, Cradily (at a higher level)

Recruits specific to this dungeon: Remoraid, Chinchou, Lileep, Relicanth

I have bad experiences with Silver Trench. I'm pretty sure there were two distinct experiences: the time I was playing this game on a road trip, died in Silver Trench at floor like 97 or something and couldn't get rescued because I was on a road trip, and the time a Dewgong's Sheer Cold killed me on floor 60-something and I ragedeleted the file :v

Not doing that this time though!

the first of many monster houses we will see. hooray

Yeah this qualifies the above statement.

Four times in this dungeon, there are full-room monster houses. These aren't any different rules for these floors other than that they're full-room and that they're always monster houses.

The ideal thing to do here is either to make a run for the stairs or use an Orb to lessen the threat. Here though I'm going to be nuts and FIGHT EVERYTHING.
... it wasn't hard, I'm overleveled :v

Here we are again. This one may be a little more challenging, as most of the base forms we fought last time are now evolved.

... although my high level means I'm one-shotting most of them with the basic A attack, so maybe I was worried for nothing.

HOORAY

I can take one recruit. Named Chum.

so many monster houses my god

ok well shellshock killed himself with struggle, i didnt ask for that to happen but oh well lmao. We can level him up to evolve another time.

third verse same as the first. This time, Luvdisc may have Agility, which is a giant pain.

fuck sheer cold seriously

ok but what is that purple stuff in the walls????????

The last of the one-room monster houses, thankfully. Let's go.

... and both Green and Chum are confused and someone used Agility (which boosts the speed of every enemy in the room). This is why I brought Petrify Orbs :V

We made it! (There's not another monster house at floor 95.)
For this fight I'll send Green home and just take it on with me and Chum :B

More ominous black screen, hooray

This is... the Silver Trench. This is my territory!
Yes but there's kind of a giant tornado whirlpool or some shit we need to deal with

Alright who's surprised

To protect this sea, I have settled here...
If you dare to challenge me...

HELL YEAH

Cast aside all thoughts! Unleash every bit of your power!

whoa uh now isn't that going a bit far

Bring it on!

COOL

Chum is out of PP, so to prevent him from stealing my kill with Struggle or getting killed, I set him to run away from the battle. Red starts with an Iron Thorn as Lugia approaches.

ahahaha Lugia's normal attack does 1 damage #nice
(Flamethrower missed btw)

Two more Flamethrowers kill, and...

99.9% chance of this. :P

Sweet!

Now, it's time to go pick up the last legendary dog/cat/gerbil/hamster/whatever :v

Since I've recruited everything I need from Northwind Field, I'll bring a friend that needs leveling. This time, it will be Drew the Electrike.

First though here's Lugia in its Friend Area.

Very to-the-point

I find little satisfaction in fighting... However!
If you refuse my demands that you leave...
I will accept your challenge.
Experience it.
My true power... Unleashed!
NO PROBLEM M8

As always, I set Green to use Agility. Drew is set to run away because I'm worried about him getting killed lol

FIRST TRY AGAIN HELL YEAH
SUCK IT ENTEI!!!!!
... And then I accidentally pressed "no" on the "accept suicune as a team member" prompt ahahhaha fuck me sideways I can't believe I did that.
(It's a sign of things to come)

Alright let's go again :B

THIS IS THE 7TH TIME (INCLUDING THE FIRST TIME) I AM NOT PRESSING NO THIS TIME DAMMIT.

But with all the time and experience it took I can evolve two of my Pokémon!

I can't get all three in a single shot but here are two of the legendary beasts in their friend area :V

Now off to Unown Relic to pick up the last of the Unown I need! Then we'll have cleared that out just like the fields.

I have a method here you see

Named Tell.

[Lost the screenshot; recruited an Unown Y]
Named Yield.

This is Unown L obviously lol

Named Join.

Named Undo.

Named Metal.

I must have miscounted somewhere because I'm picking up 10 Unown in this last update instead of 8 like I thought I would be. Ah, well. Nothing to it but to keep going :V

Named Give.

Named Perform.

Just two more left: A and Q!

That was quick. Named Anger.

Named Quicken.

That's all the Unown! Let's see them in their natural habitat.

look at all these beautiful alphabet noodles

I've got 2 more things planned for this update. The first is to clear out Silent Chasm and the other is to check out - and recruit everything from - a new dungeon, Far-Off Sea. I'll do that last because it's marginally more interesting. (Maybe.)

I've got 6 Pokémon to pick up at Silent Chasm: 2 Teddiursa, 3 Weedle, and Paras. (I'd go for Kakuna... if the only place to find Kakuna wasn't a level 1 dungeon. Middle evolutions are functionally impossible to recruit in level 1 dungeons because it's incredibly difficult, if not actually impossible, to get up to the level you need to in order to get enough of a bonus for it. Which of course makes our lives more difficult because we have to do shit like recruit + evolve Azurill rather than Marill, which is a hassle because of the way happiness functions in this game. Quality game experience!)

I took some missions as well, hence the Omastar.
Escort missions aren't as bad when you're high level... thankfully

named Toklo, props if you get the reference

named Mushpeckle

Named Oka, referencing the same thing as Toklo lmao

Named Bean. Wow that might be the longest time between a nickname being suggested and my using it, nice.

named Timon because a million people make that joke all the time lmao

Named Beeyonce :B

awesome

All right, off to Far-Off Sea! This dungeon has a lot of Water Pokémon, so it's not really unique compared to Stormy Sea and Silver Trench. However, it is the only place in the game to find the item Tight Belt, which prevents Belly from decreasing. It's invaluable for the level 1 dungeons, so I'm going to attempt to find it while I'm on this Quest.

Music: Frosty Forest

Recruits: Shellder, Omanyte, Krabby, Slowpoke, Seel, Spheal, Anorith, Grimer, Carvanha, Sealeo, Wailmer, Lapras, Luvdisc, Dratini, Octillery (at a higher level), Clamperl

Recruits I'm gunning for: Krabby, Wailmer, Lapras, Luvdisc, Clamperl

This dungeon requires a Water Pokémon friend to enter, hence Emone's presence here.

well rip lmao

how is this underwater?? it looks like a cave

I went for Lapras first because it's body size 4 and therefore needs me to have a team of size 2 or less to recruit it. Since I've recruited it now, I'm going to send Green home so that I can fit another recruit in my party.
Named Icerain.

Named Valentine because I'm unoriginal.

Time to use an Escape Orb, head back in, and hope to find a Tight Belt this time! (hint: it's probably not going to happen, tight belts are pretty rare)

Most of what I need to recruit with the exception of Krabby shows up only after floor 40 though so it's not like I'm wasting time looking for the Tight Belt lol

Named Jonah lol

Named Juanita even though I hated reading The Pearl :V

well HI
(Wailord is huge as you can see and it is great.)

We still have two Krabby and two Clamperl to pick up.

Oh. Hey. Hello. I didn't expect that.

... Belly... rumbling... Hungry...
Munchlax walks off, but you can follow it and talk to it again. If you have food, you can give it to Munchlax. I don't have food food, but I have a Max Elixir...

Which seems to work.

Munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch...
Munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch, munch...
Nnnnnnnn! Deeeeelicious!
Munchlax satisfied!
............... You, good to Munchlax.
Munchlax say thank you with this.

(The Munch Belt is shit, it makes your Belly go down faster.)

Munchlax go now.
bye!!

So yeah this game was made in that awkward period between gens 3 and 4 when we knew a handful of gen 4 Pokémon (Munchlax, Lucario, Bonsly, Mime Jr., Weavile) and so this game wanted to reference them before their official debut in D/P. This is one example of that. Munchlax can't join your team or anything, but there is this game's equivalent of an achievement for running into it.

I've only seen Munchlax one other time in all my years of playing this game. I wasn't expecting to see it here, so I'm pleasantly surprised!

Back to Far-off Sea.
Also I only just noticed I've been dragging the Magikarp named Emone along when I really wanted to evolve Randy. Time to bring Randy now I guess :V

Named Eugene.

Eugene died on floor 64 :( rip

and then I died
great
perfect
just what I wanted to happen on FLOOR SIXTY-FOUR

lets go again i guess :/

Eugene 2. (Randy already died. Solid.)

Named Ariel.

... I am having a terrible time here today. Be glad I love you guys.

eugene the third

I FOUND ONE
I FUCKING FOUND ONE
OKAY THAT MAKES UP FOR ALL MY ANGER

Now I just have to not die a third time!

Okay, well, I made it to floor 65 okay. This is where Clamperl can start appearing.
I decided I'm going to send Green home and stick around until I get two Clamperl, then Escape Orb out. That will ensure I never have to come this deep into this hell dungeon again. Thank Arceus.

That was pleasantly quick. Ariel 2.

Named Murderfish :B

ESCAPE
ORB
TIME

OKAY
WE'RE SAFE
WE'RE SAFE.

WE'RE SAFE WITH A TIGHT BELT AND ONLY ONE KRABBY LEFT TO RECRUIT

I CAN DEAL WITH THIS

(I may or may not be going insane as you can see)

... alright I got a night's sleep and am much less insane now. Time to pick up the last Krabby I need and get out!

Named Snake :v

I immediately escape from the dungeon lol

And I do this.

That's all for today. Next time: Meteor Cave!

Clever of you to get the Tight Belt before you got to Meteor Cave - I had a hell of a time when I did it because I kept fainting from hunger.

lucariomaster2: Actually, as it turns out, I didn't end up using the Tight Belt in Meteor Cave! It's definitely useful, though, and I've used it in the past.

This plot happens after you recruit Lugia.

well Hi

After everything that we went through…
Xatu, you must be intrigued by our achievements! Hahahaha!

I THINK YOU OFFENDED HIM AAAAA

Wrong!
Shopping in Pokémon Square is what I came to do.
I come here only because it is on the way… This is not very important.
… lol rip

Green: Oh… Is that all…

WHO could it BE

(Side note I rather like how these rando NPCs keep some relevance to the game and plot even after you beat it)

Didn’t know you’d be here. You had me looking, Xatu.
I like to imagine Blastoise searched all of the Great Canyon fruitlessly for Xatu before stumbling across him here.

Xatu: What is it?
Blastoise: Well, to the northeast of Mt. Thunder…
Blastoise what were you doing at Mt. Thunder you’re a Water type (yes I know the dungeon is insanely easy even for a Blastoise but shut up we got to Zapdos quicker than Alakazam’s team :v)

There’s a gigantic cave!
There wasn’t anything like that there before, hey?
Hey?

So, I figured Xatu would know something…
Buddy if you’re gonna ask anyone ask Zapdos, it lived there

AUGH WHAT

Ok but why though

Green: Meteor Cave?
See he’s confused too.

Xatu: It was when Rayquaza destroyed the falling star…
Its pieces broken, they scattered across the skies.
And one of them hit Latias sadly

One tumbled to earth. It fell into a mountain, and made the cavern you speak of.
Wouldn’t that have caused a shitton of natural damage or some shit

Green: Um, Blastoise.
Did you explore inside the Meteor Cave?
Blastoise: Uh, yeah… Just a little…

Well. That’s unfortunate.

It freaked me out. I couldn’t stay there long…
Green: Hahaha! Surprise, surprise! Blastoise’s kind of cowardly!
Green you’re kind of an asshole sometimes you know that

Blastoise: What’s that?!
Hey, you, Green. If you were to see that dungeon, you’d be intimidated too!
Green is kind of too dumb to be scared. Let’s not forget him standing up to Zapdos even after we heard that Zapdos (maybe) eats Pokémon like him.

Blastoise: I’ve never seen anything like it before…
There were downright bizarre things in there that I’m not sure were even Pokémon.
(Three guesses as to which as-yet-unseen legendary inhabits this cave, and the first two don’t count.)

Xatu, do you have any idea what are in that place?

rip

However… That cavern. The collision that caused it had to be enormous.
Yeah that’s why I’m fearing for the local wildlife

If there were things that survived the crash…
Perhaps… Of this world they may not be.
They’re from Mass of course

Sounds like a bad (or classic depending on who you ask) 1950s sci-fi movie title.

Xatu: Perhaps that is so…
Green: Red. Want to go investigate? The Meteor Cave.

Time to go.
Well… for me to go.
See, Meteor Cave is weird. You can only take 1 Pokémon and a total of 3 items + 1 held item. Don't ask me why that is, I couldn't hope to tell you. I think maybe the game devs got to Silver Trench and Meteor Cave and realized there was basically nothing to distinguish them from other dungeons in the game, so they threw in some gimmicks (Silver Trench's one-room monster houses and Meteor Cave's item/Pokémon restrictions) but I can't be sure.

There's another gimmick to this dungeon...

(Music: Mt. Thunder Peak)

The only Pokémon in it is Deoxys. And there's only one per floor. And you have to find and beat that one in order for the stairs to let you advance to the next floor.

So... item choice for this dungeon should reflect that! Popular choices include: Tight Belt, Friend Bow (the "boss" Deoxys has a -10% recruit rate), X-Ray Specs, Huge Apple, Max Elixir, Reviver Seed. My set-up (for now) is X-Ray Specs, Huge Apple, Max Elixir, Reviver Seed.
Let's see how it works!

Well I killed it in one hit. Although Deoxys has Pressure so conserving PP is smart lol

Deoxys can be in Attack, Defense, or Speed form. Attack and Defense have high stats in their respective areas, where Speed has an extra speed level (so it moves 2 squares for every 1 you move).

On the twentieth floor, things change.

Where... Where am I?

sad...

What is this place?
I am Deoxys. I came from space.
Yeah we know.

If you know, tell me.
I must know... what happened here!

So, instead of telling him, I'm gonna fight him.
Solid.

Deoxys dies in three Flamethrowers though, nothing fancy lol

And... that's all for that dungeon! Yeah, nothing happens afterward. We can just go back and actually recruit Deoxys now. Which I'm gonna do.

But first...

This is long overdue. I was waiting until we'd finished with all the plot that involves Red and Green directly to do this. Since we are done, we can finally evolve them!

Taking Green to Meteor Cave to even out the experience. This time I'm bringing a Friend Bow instead of the Max Elixir.
Let's go!

When we get to the 20th floor we get some similar dialogue as before. The exact same dialogue in fact. Amazing!

AWWWWWW YYYEAAAAAAAAH, FIRST TRY GENTLEMEN

And I'm not going to click 'no' this time like I did with Suicune. (Though to be fair this dungeon is less obnoxious than Northwind Field was.)

Deoxys brings its own Friend Area.

Here it is. One of the coolest Friend Areas in the game imo.

Next: We still have three four legends to pick up from Buried Relic. I'm going to head there and see if I can't pick up one of the Regis and hopefully Mew.

For this I'm just going to be bringing Red, because I also still have a total of 12 non-legendary Pokémon to recruit in the dungeon and if I take Green along, I'll only have room in my party for a Regi and Mew, neither of which are guaranteed by any means. I want to be able to pick up a third as well to speed things along.

Maybe this one will live. Named Tachi.

It's always the same dialogue with these guys.
Let's equip a Friend Bow and see what happens.

lol ok
Explosion isn't a one-hit self kill in this game fortunately but I'm still amused.

Nope, ah well. I've still got two more I might be able to recruit.

rip tachi, i knew i should have used a petrify orb immediately >:/

Lol but this happens. Named Venum.

Attempt 2.

And another failure.

I hate everything lmao

Named Tom idk

One more attempt.

oh oops I accidentally killed it from a distance with Flamethrower, rip

Well then. Time to go after Mew!

Dammit, why can I never keep anything alive in this dungeon?!
If I don't even manage to recruit Mew in this run I'll be pretty embarrassed.

Sure, okay, this isn't one of the ones I was planning to recruit in this dungeon but I'll take it.
Named Jones.

Yeah sure I'll take you too. Named Corona.

Whoa! I knew Mew could spawn in Monster Houses but I've never seen it with my own two eyes. Neat! Let's equip a Friend Bow and see what happens.

... dammit, no dice. :/

Well, that was a thorough waste of time.
Let's try again.

Named Connor.

Nope...

Hey, we got one!

Oh, hey, cool!

Using an Escape Orb now because I can't add any more teammates.

I meant to only pick up one Regi this time. I'll save more dungeon recruits, Regirock, and Mew for next time.

The next thing on my list is to go clear recruits from Mt. Thunder. I need 2 Cacnea, 2 Pidgeotto, Stantler, and Growlithe.

I'm also on an escort mission :B

Named Dirty Dan at bf's suggestion

named Olive which prompted a "fuck you" from bf :B

Named Dorothy.

yassss
Named Otto.

Finally! This took way longer than it should have given Pidgeotto's recruit rate. (I seem to generally have trouble with Pidgeotto for some weird reason.) Named Kenny.

Named Firebolt.

Aaand we're done with Mt. Thunder! Awesome. Next thing I'm going to do is make a concerted effort to clear Stormy Sea of recruits. I've been there a lot and picked up quite a few Pokémon so far, but there's still a surprising amount left. Specifically, I'm looking to pick up a Seel, 2 Slowpoke, 2 Spheal/Sealeo, and 2 Carvanha.

I'll also take missions while I'm there because Stormy Sea missions are always valuable for rescue points :B

I can also do this with the new recruit.

Named Tristan idk

Named Tubber.

... and then I realized I accidentally got rid of the item I was supposed to deliver so I reset lol. I'll try to get Tristan and Tubber specifically back.

Yup, got them back.

Two more trips, let's go.

Named Trip.

Named Hatty.

... there wasn't anything I could do about this, Spheal used Ice Ball and hit with 4 of them, killing Hatty twice. Rip.

Named Blubber :b

Green is level 90! This means he gets a 24% boost to recruitment, which means he can now recruit the fully-evolved Pokémon that are able to be recruited... and Kecleon. Which I may start going after next time. We'll see.

One more trip...

Hatty returns.

Named Jaws.
I sent Green home in order to pick up a second Carvanha while I'm here.

Whew, that took a while. Carvanha is rather rare in this dungeon, and I had bad luck with the ones I did find. Named Ari.

Last thing for this update: Mazes.

So, there's this place, Makuhita Dojo. Basically here are a bunch of short, small dungeons (like, 3-5 floors each) that focus on a specific type. The idea is that you can come here and train without having to waste a day in an actual dungeon. Completing all of the mazes gets you a reward, hence why I'm doing it. There's one maze for every type plus a few others, so I'll be doing I think 3 mazes per update until I'm done with them all.
These are supposed to be done during the main game levels-wise so I'm hilariously overleveled, which means this will not be terribly interesting but I may as well show it off.

Gonna go in order here.

Music: Makuhita Dojo
Pokémon to fight: Raticate

At the end of every maze is a "boss" fight.
Of course this isn't difficult, like, at all :B

Fire Maze
Pokémon to fight: Ponyta, Slugma, Magby
if only you could recruit Pokémon here. being able to recruit Ponyta would make my life 5000 times easier but alas :(

The boss battles are sometimes just Pokémon you found within the dungeon lmao

Water Maze
Pokémon to fight: Poliwag
Fun fact, I don't think this dungeon tileset is used anywhere else in the game. Nifty!

And sometimes the opposing team is just... three of the dungeon mon. Original!

lol that wasn't much but that's all the mazes we're doing today

Next time: Wish Cave!

Upcoming recruits: Bellsprout, Sunkern, Cleffa, Caterpie, Togepi, Ralts

For the Bellsprout line, name the Victreebel LeoBurnett because...
As for the Ralts line, name the Kirlia Ninian after a dancer in Fire Emblem and Gardevoir Katrina after the fortune teller in Animal Crossing.

Thanks for the name suggestions; I'll use them! (Except for Kirlia's because I already have a Kirlia.)

Anyway I'm posting because I have a judgment call for readers to make.

So, the dungeon I will enter in the next segment, Wish Cave, is the only place to find Leaf Stones and King's Rocks. I need 3 Leaf Stones and 2 King's Rocks for this playthrough. That said, they are only found in Kecleon Shops, on specific floors, and then, the items in the Kecleon Shop have only a 33% chance of being a Moon Stone or a Leaf Stone or a King's Rock.

Wish Cave is a level 1 dungeon. This means it is the same difficulty every single time it is entered, because your Pokémon get reset to level 1 no matter what. It's kind of easy to cheese with Alakazam and Charizard, but still rather tedious.

Point is, the fact that Leaf Stones and King's Rocks only appear in this level 1 dungeon is hella annoying. When I last attempted this run, I said "fuck it" and looked up codes for missions that would give me Leaf Stones and King's Rocks as rewards, because for all the time I spend getting Exeggcute and Pidgey and Kecleon and all I just have a hard time forcing myself to repeat the first few floors of this dungeon in the hopes of spawning the 8%-chance-of-appearing Kecleon Shop on floor 13 or 26 specifically.

So, I leave it up to readers. Do you want me to get the Leaf Stones and King's Rocks from the Kecleon Shop, or am I able to use Wonder Mail codes to get missions that will give them to me as rewards?
(If it helps any, I'm totally willing to give you guys the Wonder Mail generator and make you guys pick my poison for the nature of the missions that will result in Leaf Stones and King's Rocks. The generator is here. Just make sure that the item reward is one of those two items.)

Vote now or forever hold your peace!

I think it's only fair for you to use Wonder missions. Catching them all is a big task in itself and spending time on such a tedious task, would in my opinion just be as big waste of time.
Especially, when there are other tedious mandatory things to do. So, I have no problem with generating Wonder Mail codes and thus will gladly generate one for you.

Its reward is a Leaf stone and it involves two of my favourite Pokémon. Let me know whether it's too easy/difficult and look forward to the next update.

I'd be a hypocrite if I said that you couldn't use wondermail considering that I've used it for a King's Rock and to get the Friend Bow and Surf HM again when I accidentally sold them. I think I'm going to wait to complete Wish Cave to use anymore Wondermail personally since I'd be mad at myself if I spawned a Kecleon shop after generating all of the items, but it's up to you. There's no skill in diving into a tedious dungeon thirty times just to get a random item.

Hell, I'm feeling generous. Reunite the Hammer Bros. of Firebot for me, would you? They're willing to Leaf you alone if you do!

If I may, I also have an additional 'soft' stipulation for this mission, but I have a feeling you'll do it anyway; you must leave at least two slots open for recruitment in the dungeon. One for Regirock, and one for Mew. If you fail to recruit Regirock, you may take on a random mon in the dungeon to help you protect esteemed smogon user internet on his way to meet his Brother-In-Merks, Acklow . If they see a legendary 'mon in the bargain, all the better!

I've already recruited Mew, actually, and am in the process of recruiting Regirock. To make up for that, I'm willing to try the mission multiple times until I get it so that I definitely recruit Regirock during the mission, if that's acceptable!

whatever works, man! :D

e: if regi dies while the mission is ongoing, im sorry

I don't mind the use of Wonder Mail codes to get the Evolution items, though I'd say maybe one soft stipulation of saving them until you've cleaned out anything else relevant in Wish Cave (ergo potential recruits, the boss at the end, and/or non-problematic items). I tend to view something of this nature as an allowed convenience as a last resort.

yeah I don't mind using wonder mail code generators lol, I mean I have used them myself too soo... I mean I guess one suggestion I could make is making the mission somewhat difficult to balance out the reward?

Also I can't wait to see how you tackle Joyous Tower, probably my least favorite dungeon due to the number of recruits needed and the infamous Chansey that never spawned. Good Luck on Wish Cave though!

anyways, I miss friend areas so much lol I can't believe they removed them from the other PMD games @~@

that's part of why I'm leaving the generator in the hands of the fans, so they can choose exactly what my punishment is for refusing to get leaf stones and king's rocks the "correct" way :p

pika pal : Because one of the missions wants me to recruit Regirock, and because I want to keep interest high, I probably will actually tackle the missions in the coming update. That said, if I do run into any Leaf Stones or King's Rocks in my actual playthrough of Wish Cave, I'll try to use those instead of the Wonder Mail-generated ones, just to make it "fair". I mean I know the game doesn't distinguish between the two, but if I get the items legitimately I think I should use them, if that makes sense, lol
