LC Grimer-Alola

Alolan Grimer's great typing, good natural bulk, and powerful Attack give it staying power in Little Cup. As a Dark-type, Alolan Grimer has access to STAB Knock Off and Pursuit, the former letting it cripple most common threats and the latter letting it trap Abra and Gastly, two of the most common, powerful, and generally hard to counter Pokemon in LC. It also has access to many other good moves—Shadow Sneak gives it priority, Fire Blast lets it hit Steel-types like Ferroseed and Pawniard, and Memento allows it to support its team even past Pursuit and Knock Off. Alolan Grimer has a pretty useful ability in Poison Touch, and with Shadow Sneak it can make a good last line of defense against sweepers.

Grimer-Alola @ Eviolite / Berry Juice
Level: 5
Ability: Poison Touch
EVs: 36 HP / 196 Atk / 196 Def / 36 SpA / 36 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Poison Jab / Gunk Shot
- Shadow Sneak / Fire Blast / Memento

As mentioned above, Pursuit can trap in Abra and Gastly as well as Wynaut and any weakened threats. STAB Knock Off is extremely hard to switch into, as it takes away items and hits like a truck. The choice between Poison Jab and Gunk Shot is mainly up to preference to whether you prefer accuracy or power, although it is notable that with Poison Touch Grimer's Poison Jab has over a 50% chance to poison. Knock Off + Poison Jab or Gunk Shot is very hard to switch into for even bulkier Pokemon, as both can cripple foes. Shadow Sneak can pick off weakened targets and help Grimer be an emergency stop to sweepers. Fire Blast, as noted above, can hit Steel-types like Ferroseed and Pawniard as well as avoid Abra's Counter. Memento allows Alolan Grimer to give support to its teammates, mainly setup sweepers. Grimer's Attack is maximized to help it hit as hard as possible. Many of its EVs and an Eviolite are also used to maximize its defenses and help it switch into attackers like Abra. If using Fire Blast, 36 Special Attack EVs should be invested and Grimer's nature should be switched to Brave. Berry Juice can be used to increase Grimer's longevity, but this sacrifices Eviolite's bulk.

However, Grimer has a few downsides. For example, Abra and Gastly can use moves like Counter and Destiny Bond to beat it. Its weakness to Ground-types leaves it vulnerable to being trapped by Diglett, which can easily remove it. Mudbray can also easily switch in and fire off an Earthquake. If Alolan Grimer lacks Fire Blast, Ferroseed and Pawniard make great checks to it. Croagunk resists Grimer's STAB options and can use it as setup bait, making it a good check. Other than those Pokemon, the best way to defeat Alolan Grimer is to weaken it and take advantage of its poor longevity by just continuing to hit it with attacks and forcing it to take damage. Grimer is also very slow, which holds it back.

So if you hate Abra and Gastly or just want to use a fun Alolan Pokemon, take Alolan Grimer into battle and see what it can do!

Intro
  • Your last line is quite confusing. First off, it makes it sound like PTouch has no effect when used with a non-Poison-type move, which is quite the opposite; in fact, Poison Touch Knock Off is why AGrimer is so tough to switch into. Second, it's outright wrong; Poison Touch PJab has a 51% chance to Poison ((1-(1-0.3)^2)*100), while Gunk Shot doesn't make contact so it's not affected by Poison Touch, so it simply has a 30% chance to Poison (das what Gunk Shot itself has)
  • Mention Pawniard as a target for Fire Blast, as Ferroseed doesn't like switching into AGrimer nearly as much (Knock Off sucks)
Set
  • Please slash Berry Juice. 14 SpDef Berry Juice AGrimer is the only variant that takes two HP Grounds from LOBra after rocks, so it's the best set imo, and BJ just in general has an easier time to Pursuit trap because of HP Ground existing
Set Description
  • Mention PTouch Koff being very hard to switch into, even for bulkier Pokemon that resist it (like Vull really doesn't like having Evio removed and getting poisoned)
  • Mention PTouch PJab having an over 50% chance to poison
  • Mention Fire Blast avoiding Abra's Counter
  • Mention 14 SpDef BJ taking two HP Grounds from LOBra after rocks
Shortcomings
  • Emphasize the lack of recovery more; it's really what prevents AGrimer from being absolutely amazing

Tell me how to slash in an item in an importable and I'll do it >_>

Other than that implemented!

Just add a "/ Berry Juice" after Eviolite. I don't see why we wouldn't do the same that we do with moves. We slash the two items on the dex.

Intro:
"which lets it have a high chance to poison with Poison Jab and a decent chance to poison with Knock Off, Pursuit, or Shadow Sneak."
- This seems obvious and not necessary to point out

Description:
- Pursuit almost never traps Pumpkaboo because they just wisp. You could replace it with Wynaut or just say weakened stuff
- I don't see a reason to mention stuff Knock Off hits, none of these things are particularly special. Whole sentence kinda feels like filler/obvious. Is there a way you could make it have more substance/be more interesting?
- Most of this reads like an analysis, have some fun with it! add some personality!
- I wouldn't mention the resttalk set or those alternate EV spreads, they're not that important. Just mention the bit about SpA EVs when using Fire Blast

Downsides:
- Yeah it's got checks, every mon does. Add some more downsides that are specific to Grimer.
- For example, the stuff it wants to check most, abra/gastly, can run sets that let them beat it like Counter or Destiny Bond
- Grimer is really slow!

This is restated in the set description. Giving so many details twice is a waste of words, so this could easily be summarized into something like "its movepool gives it priority, coverage, and utility"

things that are obvious
Grimer's Attack is maximized to help it hit as hard as possible. Many of its EVs and an Eviolite are also used to maximize its defenses and help it switch into attackers like Abra.
