[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 4 onwards

**Price Range**: 12-14 points

**Overview**: Kommo-o is an extremely versatile Pokemon and strong attacker that takes advantage of an expansive movepool, usable mixed attacking stats, and various setup moves to sweep teams. With solid utility moves and good bulk, it can also serve as a defensive Pokemon. However, Kommo-o is slow and has a typing that leaves it vulnerable to a lot of common types, so it needs a lot of support to sweep teams.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Physical Setup Sweeper**: With great physical coverage and reliable setup moves, Kommo-o can be a physical sweeper that takes advantage of the unpredictability of its set.

**Special Setup Sweeper**: Due to the interaction of Throat Spray + Clangorous Soul, Kommo-o can also be a special sweeper, once again taking advantage of the unpredictability of its set.

**Defensive Utility**: Using Body Press with its great physical bulk, Kommo-o can be a defensive Pokemon that can check numerous wallbreakers while still dishing out good damage.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Close Combat, Body Press, Aura Sphere, Focus Blast, Vacuum Wave, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Scale Shot, Outrage, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Clanging Scales

**Setup Moves**: Clangorous Soul, Dragon Dance, Belly Drum, Bulk Up, Iron Defense, Swords Dance

**Utility Moves**: Taunt, Roar, Dragon Tail, Stealth Rock, Substitute

**Coverage**: Boomburst, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Flash Cannon, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Throat Chop, Thunder Punch, X-Scissor, Aerial Ace

Niche Moves
========
**Metal Sound**: If using a special Kommo-o set, Metal Sound can be used to activate Throat Spray while forcing the foe out, allowing Kommo-o to get a free attack off.

**Endure**: Endure is useful for both activating pinch Berries and getting additional Rocky Helmet damage.

Common Items
========
**Throat Spray**: Thanks to Clangorous Soul being a sound-based move, using it with Throat Spray allows Kommo-o to increase its Special Attack two stages. Kommo-o can alternatively use Clanging Scales or Boomburst to deal damage while still activating the Throat Spray.

**Leftovers**: Due to Kommo-o not having any reliable ways to recover health, Leftovers is important for keeping it healthy.

**Salac / Sitrus Berry**: Since both Clangorous Soul and Belly Drum cut Kommo-o's health, it is able to activate both Salac and Sitrus Berry by itself consistently. Thanks to Soundproof, it also does not have to worry about moves that get past Substitute for Belly Drum sets.

**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry allows Kommo-o to get around status spreaders, which would normally hinder its ability to set up.

**Rocky Helmet**: On defensive sets, Rocky Helmet is a great alternative if healing from Leftovers is not necessary.

Niche Items
========
**Damage-boosting Items**: Physical Kommo-o appreciates any boost in damage to its attacks it can get, and it certainly has a wide enough array of coverage to take advantage of a Choice Band. Providing more immediate power than Throat Spray would, Choice Specs can alternatively enable Kommo-o to take advantage of its powerful STAB moves on the special side, including Vacuum Wave to revenge kill, especially if your opponent is anticipating a physical Kommo-o.

**Resistance Berries**: Using Kommo-o's natural bulk, a resistance Berry can allow it to more freely set up on Pokemon that may have super effective coverage against it.

**Eject Pack**: With Clanging Scales and Draco Meteor, Kommo-o can use Eject Pack to get a powerful move off while pivoting away.

**Loaded Dice**: On Swords Dance sets especially, Loaded Dice Scale Shot can give Kommo-o a powerful attack that also gives a boost to its meager Speed.

Tera
========
Kommo-o is a pretty good Tera Captain in spite of its steep price. It is a Pokemon that has to be carefully built around as a Tera Captain, but it also allows for another high-value Tera Captain if picked. Most of its value comes from its versatility in set options that all benefit from Tera; for instance, it can use Tera Normal to give STAB to its Boomburst as well as shed its weaknesses, but it can really take advantage of pretty much any Tera type. Tera Steel, Poison, and Fire all turn Kommo-o's 4x weakness to Fairy into a resistance while boosting its strong moves with STAB and giving it immunity to poison or burn. Tera Electric is a generally neutral Tera type that prevents Kommo-o from being paralyzed and boosts Thunder Punch to hit the bulky Water- and Flying-types that may try to check Kommo-o. Finally, Tera Dragon and Fighting are usable options that boost Kommo-o's already-powerful STAB moves.

Draft Strategy
========
Kommo-o needs a lot of support and fits best on offense-oriented teams that enable it as a sweeper. It is slow and does not have a way to recover lost health outside of Rest and Drain Punch, and although it can be either offensive or defensive, it is generally relegated to the role of a late-game sweeper. It often has to be drafted with the knowledge you will not use it until a certain point in the game, so its intended role has to be drafted around craftily to make sure it is successful.

**Speed Control**: Even with a Speed boost, Kommo-o finds itself outsped by a lot of Pokemon. It benefits from being paired with faster teammates such as Iron Moth, Darkrai, and Greninja that can efficiently outrun its checks. Additionally, Sticky Web is usually a gimmick that is easy to work around, but even a cheap setter like Ariados or Cutiefly along with more consistent speed control helps Kommo-o a great deal.

**Defensive Pivot**: Kommo-o desperately needs something that can soak up the common moves it is weak to; slow Steel-types like Scizor and Empoleon can accomplish this while generating momentum with U-turn and Flip Turn, respectively.

**Entry Hazard Control**: Since Kommo-o often needs its foes to be weakened, an entry hazard setter such as Ting-Lu or Hisuian Samurott can accomplish this as the game goes on. On the other hand, Kommo-o can be weakened by opposing entry hazards, especially Toxic Spikes, so it's important to pair it with hazard removers such as Iron Treads and Glimmora.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fairy-types**: Despite having access to both Poison- and Steel-type moves, Kommo-o already struggles with four-move syndrome, and Fairy-types such as Iron Valiant, Enamorus, and Hatterene can deal significant damage to it with even a weak STAB move.

**Mixed Walls**: Even with the unpredictability Kommo-o brings, mixed walls like Toxapex and Scream Tail can tank both physical and special attacks and stop Kommo-o's sweep with their status moves. Walls to have to be wary of Kommo-o using Taunt, however, and that can work in to its advantage.

**Disruption**: When Kommo-o wants to set up, it is very weak to disruption such as Encore and Haze and phazing moves such as Roar, if not running Soundproof, and Whirlwind. Additionally, foes can utilize Mirror Herb to copy its boosts.

Common Roles
========
**Setup sweeper**: With great coverage and ways to set up both offensive stats as well as Speed, Kommo-o can run both physical and special sweeping sets. Kommo has a lot of viable setup sets & this is super broad, so I'd split this up into 3 sets - Physical setup (dragon dance/sd/scale shot), Special setup (Clang soul / throat spray), Belly Drum

**Defensive utility**: Using its access to Body Press with great physical bulk, Kommo-o can be a defensive Pokemon that can check numerous wallbreakers while still being able to still can dish out good damage.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Close Combat, Body Press, Aura Sphere, Focus Blast, Vacuum Wave, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Scale Shot, Outrage, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Clanging Scales

**Setup Moves**: Clangorous Soul, Dragon Dance, Belly Drum, Bulk Up, Iron Defense, Swords Dance, Substitute Move sub to utility

**Utility Moves**: Taunt, Roar, Dragon Tail, Stealth Rock

**Coverage**: Boomburst, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Flash Cannon, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Throat Chop, Thunder Punch, X-Scissor, Aerial Ace

Niche Moves
========
**Metal Sound**: If using a special Kommo-o set, Metal Sound can be used to activate Throat Spray while forcing the foe's Pokemon out, allowing Kommo-o to get a free attack off.

**Upper Hand**: Kommo-o is vulnerable to being revenge KOed by priority moves, so Kommo-o can take advantage of its STAB boosted Upper Hand as a preventative measure. Maybe too niche - probably only really being used against weavile specifically on dragon dance sets

Add Counter - good way to catch opponents off guard especially with its solid physical bulk

Maybe add endure and/or endeavor - work well together & either can be valuable on defensive sets (endure for extra helmet chip, endeavor to chip fairies or other checks after its weakened)

Add Fling - fling big nugget can beat some psychics that wall it

Common Items

**Throat Spray**: Thanks to Clangorous Soul being a sound-based move, using it allows Kommo-o to increase its Special Attack two stages, or it can use Clanging Scales or Boomburst to deal damage while still activating the Throat Spray.

**Lum Berry**: If your foe tries to shut Kommo-o down using a status move, Lum Berry stops this from working. Lum Berry allows Kommo-o to get around status spreaders, which would normally hinder its ability to set up.

**Rocky Helmet**: On defensive sets, Rocky Helmet is a great alternative if the healing from Leftovers is not necessary.

Niche Items
========
**Choice Specs**: Providing more immediate power than Throat Spray would, Choice Specs Kommo-o can take advantage of its powerful STAB moves, including Vacuum Wave to revenge kill, especially if your foe is anticipating a physically attacking Kommo-o. Change to damage-boosting items & focus more on physical set items imo - specs can still be mentioned

**Mental Herb**: Since Kommo-o is slow naturally, Mental Herb will allow it to set up on faster Taunt users or slower Encore users.

**Resistance Berries**: Using Kommo-o's natural bulk, a resistance berry can allow it to more freely set up on Pokemon that may have super effective coverage for it.

**Eject Pack**: With access to Clanging Scales and Draco Meteor, Kommo-o can use Eject Pack to get a powerful move off while being able to pivot away.

Maybe add Scarf - probably can catch opponents off guard in some scenarios (probably too niche though)

Additionally, Sticky Web is usually a gimmick that is easy to work around, but even a cheap Pokemon like Ariados or Cutiefly along with more consistent speed control help Kommo-o a great deal.

**Fast sweepers**: Fast sweepers like Serperior and Ogerpon-Wellspring that can soften Kommo-o's checks for it aid it in sweeping. This is just a combination of wallbreakers & speed control, plus those 2 examples are tera hogs, meaning kommo probably can't tera along with them - added a line about this in speed control

**Wallbreakers**: Kommo-o lacks raw wallbreaking power, so be sure to draft a Pokemon like Darkrai that fits this role.
See above

**Defensive pivots**: Kommo-o desperately needs something that can soak the common moves it is weak to, slow Steel-types like Scizor and Empoleon can accomplish this while generating momentum with U-Turn and Flip Turn, respectively.

**Entry hazard setters control**: Since Kommo-o often needs your foe its foes to be weakened, an entry hazard setter such as Ting-Lu or Hisuian Samurott can accomplish this as the game goes on. Checks and Counters
========
**Fairy-types**: Despite having access to both Poison- and Steel-type moves, Kommo-o already struggles fitting only four moves, and Fairy-types such as Iron Valiant, Enamorus, and Hatterene still resist both of Kommo-o's STABs and do not need a powerful Fairy-type move to deal significant damage to it.

**Status**: Kommo-o can struggle with finding something to safely set up against, and the threat of status makes it even more difficult. It is weak to every type of status, especially paralysis on Speed-boosting sets and burn on physical sets.

**Mixed walls**: Even with the unpredictability Kommo-o brings, mixed walls like Toxapex and Scream Tail can tank both physical and special attacks and stop Kommo-o's sweep with their status moves. Walls to have to be wary of Kommo-o using Taunt, however, and that can work in its advantage.

**Disruption**: When Kommo-o is wanting to set up, it is very weak to disruption such as Encore and Haze and phazing moves such as Roar and Whirlwind. Additionally, foes can utilize Mirror Herb to copy its boosts when anticipating setup sets, typically from Clangorous Soul.

**Cleaner**: With access to Belly Drum, if Kommo-o can find an opportunity to set up it can use its natural bulk and access to moves like Drain Punch and Scale Shot to end the game. (is this not physical setup)

**Defensive utility**: Using its access to Body Press with great physical bulk, Kommo-o can be a defensive Pokemon that can check numerous wallbreakers while still being able to dish out good damage.

Common Moves

**Primary STAB Moves**: Close Combat, Body Press, Aura Sphere, Focus Blast, Vacuum Wave, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Scale Shot, Outrage, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Clanging Scales

**Setup Moves**: Clangorous Soul, Dragon Dance, Belly Drum, Bulk Up, Iron Defense, Swords Dance

**Utility Moves**: Taunt, Roar, Dragon Tail, Stealth Rock, Substitute

**Coverage**: Boomburst, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Flash Cannon, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Throat Chop, Thunder Punch, X-Scissor, Aerial Ace

Niche Moves
========
**Metal Sound**: If using a special Kommo-o set, Metal Sound can be used to activate Throat Spray while forcing the foe's Pokemon out, allowing Kommo-o to get a free attack off.

**Counter**: Against certain physical attackers that do not take much damage from defensive Kommo-o, such as Great Tusk, Counter can be useful to catch them off guard. (maybe too niche)

**Endure**: Useful for both activating pinch berries and getting additional Rocky Helmet damage, Endure is a very usable move on Kommo-o in the correct situation.

Common Items
========
**Throat Spray**: Thanks to Clangorous Soul being a sound-based move, using it allows Kommo-o to increase its Special Attack two stages, or it can use Clanging Scales or Boomburst to deal damage while still activating the Throat Spray.

Niche Items
========
**Damage-boosting items**: Physically attacking Kommo-o appreciates any boost in damage to its attacks it can get, and it certainly has a wide enough array of coverage to take advantage of a Choice Band. Providing more immediate power than Throat Spray would, Choice Specs can enable Kommo-o to take advantage of its powerful STAB moves on the special side, including Vacuum Wave to revenge kill, especially if your foe is anticipating a physically attacking Kommo-o.

**Mental Herb**: Since Kommo-o is slow naturally, Mental Herb will allow it to set up on faster Taunt users or slower Encore users. (eh)

**Disruption**: When Kommo-o is wanting to set up, it is very weak to disruption such as Encore and Haze and phazing moves such as Roar(soundproof) and Whirlwind. Additionally, foes can utilize Mirror Herb to copy its boosts when anticipating setup sets, typically from Clangorous Soul.

However, Kommo-o is slow and has a typing that leaves it vulnerable to a lot of common types, so it will need a lot of support to sweep teams.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========

========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Close Combat, Body Press, Aura Sphere, Focus Blast, Vacuum Wave, Drain Punch, Low Kick, Scale Shot, Outrage, Dragon Claw, Draco Meteor, Clanging Scales

**Setup Moves**: Clangorous Soul, Dragon Dance, Belly Drum, Bulk Up, Iron Defense, Swords Dance

**Utility Moves**: Taunt, Roar, Dragon Tail, Stealth Rock, Substitute

**Coverage**: Boomburst, Earthquake, Fire Punch, Flamethrower, Flash Cannon, Ice Punch, Iron Head, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Shadow Claw, Throat Chop, Thunder Punch, X-Scissor, Aerial Ace

Niche Moves
========

========
**Throat Spray**: Thanks to Clangorous Soul being a sound-based move, using it allows Kommo-o to increase its Special Attack two stages, or it can use Clanging Scales or Boomburst to deal damage while still activating the Throat Spray.

**Leftovers**: Due to Kommo-o not having any reliable ways to recover health, Leftovers are important in keeping it healthy.

**Salac / Sitrus Berry**: Since both Clangorous Soul and Belly Drum cut Kommo-o's health, it will be able to activate them by itself consistently. And thanks to Soundproof, it does not have to worry about the moves that get past Substitute for Belly Drum sets.

**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry allows Kommo-o to get around status spreaders, which would normally hinder its ability to set up.

**Rocky Helmet**: On defensive sets, Rocky Helmet is a great alternative if the healing from Leftovers is not necessary.

Niche Items
========

(eh)

**Loaded Dice**: On Swords Dance sets especially, Loaded Dice Scale Shot can give a powerful attack that also gives a boost to its meager speed.

Tera
========
Kommo-o is a pretty good Tera Captain in spite of its steep price. It is a Pokemon that has to be carefully built around as a Tera Captain, but it also allows for another high value Tera Captain if picked. Most of its value comes from its versatility in set options that all benefit from Tera; for instance, it can use Tera Normal to give STAB to its Boomburst as well as shed its weaknesses, but it can really take advantage of pretty much any Tera type. Tera Steel, Poison, and Fire all turn the 4x weakness to Fairy into a resistance while having strong moves that appreciate a STAB boost and immunity to the status effects Poison and Burn, respectively. Tera Electric is a generally neutral Tera type that cannot be paralyzed, and with STAB Thunder Punch it hits the bulky Water and Flying-types that may try to check Kommo-o. And finally, Tera Dragon and Fighting are usable options that boost its already powerful STAB boosted moves.

Draft Strategy
========
Kommo-o needs a lot of support and fits best on offense-oriented teams that enable it more as a sweeper. It is slow and does not have a way to recover lost health outside of Rest and Drain Punch, and although it can be either offensive or defensive it is generally relegated to the role of a late game sweeper. It often has to be drafted with the knowledge you will not use it until a certain point in the game, so the role it is compressed to has to be drafted around craftily to make sure it is successful in what it wants to do.

**Speed control**: Even with a Speed boost, Kommo-o finds itself outsped by a lot of Pokemon. It benefits from being paired with faster teammates that can efficiently outrun its checks, such as Iron Moth, Darkrai, and Greninja. Additionally, Sticky Web is usually a gimmick that is easy to work around, but even a cheap Pokemon like Ariados or Cutiefly along with more consistent speed control help Kommo-o a great deal.

**Defensive pivots**: Kommo-o desperately needs something that can soak the common moves it is weak to, slow Steel-types like Scizor and Empoleon can accomplish this while generating momentum with U-Turn and Flip Turn, respectively.

**Entry hazard control**: Since Kommo-o often needs its foes to be weakened, an entry hazard setter such as Ting-Lu or Hisuian Samurott can accomplish this as the game goes on. On the other hand, it can be weakened by opposing entry hazards, especially Toxic Spikes, so it's important to pair it with hazard removers such as Iron Treads and Glimmora.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fairy-types**: Despite having access to both Poison- and Steel-type moves, Kommo-o already struggles fitting only four moves, and Fairy-types such as Iron Valiant, Enamorus, and Hatterene do not need a powerful Fairy-type move to deal significant damage to it. It is vulnerable to every type of status, especially paralysis on Speed-boosting sets and burn on physical sets.

**Status**: Kommo-o can struggle with finding something to safely set up against, and the threat of status makes it even more difficult. (i get it but feels eh. i would remove it but up to you)

Tera
========
Kommo-o is a pretty good Tera Captain in spite of its steep price. It is a Pokemon that has to be carefully built around as a Tera Captain, but it also allows for another high-value (AH) Tera Captain if picked. Most of its value comes from its versatility in set options that all benefit from Tera; for instance, it can use Tera Normal to give STAB to its Boomburst as well as shed its weaknesses, but it can really take advantage of pretty much any Tera type. Tera Steel, Poison, and Fire all turn the Kommo-o's 4x weakness to Fairy into a resistance while having strong moves that appreciate a STAB boost boosting its strong moves with STAB and giving it (subject confusion, applies to next sentence too) immunity to the status effects Poison and Burn, respectively poison or burn. Tera Electric is a generally neutral Tera type that cannot be prevents Kommo-o from being paralyzed (RC) and with STAB Thunder Punch it hits boosts Thunder Punch to hit the bulky Water- (AH) and Flying-types that may try to check Kommo-o. And finally Finally, Tera Dragon and Fighting are usable options that boost its Kommo-o's already-powerful (AH) STAB boosted moves.

Draft Strategy
========
Kommo-o needs a lot of support and fits best on offense-oriented teams that enable it more as a sweeper. It is slow and does not have a way to recover lost health outside of Rest and Drain Punch, and although it can be either offensive or defensive, (AC) it is generally relegated to the role of a late-game (AH) sweeper. It often has to be drafted with the knowledge you will not use it until a certain point in the game, so the its intended role it is compressed to (incorrectly referencing role compression) has to be drafted around craftily to make sure it is successful in what it wants to do (redundant).

**Speed control Control**: Even with a Speed boost, Kommo-o finds itself outsped by a lot of Pokemon. It benefits from being paired with faster teammates such as Iron Moth, Darkrai, and Greninja (moving to avoid confusion with checks) that can efficiently outrun its checks, such as Iron Moth, Darkrai, and Greninja. Additionally, Sticky Web is usually a gimmick that is easy to work around, but even a cheap Pokemon setter (linking the two halves more clearly) like Ariados or Cutiefly along with more consistent speed control help helps Kommo-o a great deal.

**Defensive pivots Pivot**: Kommo-o desperately needs something that can soak up the common moves it is weak to; (comma > semicolon) slow Steel-types like Scizor and Empoleon can accomplish this while generating momentum with U-Turn U-turn and Flip Turn, respectively.

**Entry hazard control Hazard Control**: Since Kommo-o often needs its foes to be weakened, an entry hazard setter such as Ting-Lu or Hisuian Samurott can accomplish this as the game goes on. On the other hand, it Kommo-o can be weakened by opposing entry hazards, especially Toxic Spikes, so it's important to pair it with hazard removers such as Iron Treads and Glimmora.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fairy-types**: Despite having access to both Poison- and Steel-type moves, Kommo-o already struggles fitting only four moves (you can use "with four-moveslot syndrome" instead if you would prefer), and Fairy-types such as Iron Valiant, Enamorus, and Hatterene do not need a powerful Fairy-type move to can deal significant damage to it with even a weak STAB move (rephrasing to avoid confusion). It is vulnerable to every type of status, especially paralysis on Speed-boosting sets and burn on physical sets. (removing as per qc2, assuming this was a mistake)

**Mixed walls Walls**: Even with the unpredictability Kommo-o brings, mixed walls like Toxapex and Scream Tail can tank both physical and special attacks and stop Kommo-o's sweep with their status moves. Walls to have to be wary of Kommo-o using Taunt, however, and that can work in to its advantage.

**Disruption**: When Kommo-o is wanting wants to set up, it is very weak to disruption such as Encore and Haze and phazing moves such as Roar, if not running Soundproof, and Whirlwind. Additionally, foes can utilize Mirror Herb to copy its boosts, typically from Clangorous Soul, when anticipating setup sets, typically from Clangorous Soul.
