what makes oxbow the fourth member of the lake trio? it doesn't fit with them.
You won't like it when it's angry...DNA Donors: Tornadus-Incarnate + Kartana
Offspring name: Cantankerous
New Type: Steel/Flying
Base Stats: 69/158 (+10)/100/92/75 (+20)/120 (+10) (BST: 614)
New ability and desc: Grumpy Old Mon (Prankster + Beast Boost): This Pokémon's status moves have +1 Priority. Using a move with increased Speed Priority or KOing an enemy Pokémon increases this Pokémon's highest non-HP stat by +1 combat stage.
Notable Moves: Acrobatics, Iron Tail, Sacred Sword, Leaf Blade, Knock Off, U-Turn, Detect, Substitute, Synthesis, Tailwind, Swords Dance, Defog, Bulk Up, Agility,
Role Identification: Welcome to Boost City. Cantankerous takes the concept of the Speed Boost/Protect synergy and takes it one step further, allowing it to beef up its not inconsiderable Attack stat just by avoiding damage. Priority boosting is a very, very nasty piece of work, but it's vulnerable to phazing and its best STAB moves have considerable drawbacks (Iron Tail is hopelessly inaccurate, Acrobatics necessitates forgoing an item, &c). That said, with the ability to boost to hell and back, do you really need an item? There are other boosting options as well - Swords Dance, Tailwind, and Synthesis are really good at what they do - but you need to have at least some slots for coverage. +1 Sacred Sword is a very useful move for when you're obliged to play wallbreaker against a boosted target, while Knock Off can dent stuff pretty heavily as well. Again, just watch out for phazing and you should be pretty much golden; if you fall victim to it, though, do try to stay calm. =]
The fourth member of the Lake Trio...Parents: Xatu + Swoobat
Shared egg group: Flying
Offspring name: Oxbow
New type: Psychic/Flying
New base stats: 76/76/72/96/72/114 (BST: 506)
New ability and desc: Twn Twrn (Magic Bounce + Klutz): This Pokémon causes status moves used against it to be rebounded against their users. Additionally, the effects of enemy Pokémon's items are reversed while this Pokémon is on the field (for example, Choice Scarf lowers the holder's Speed by 50%, Life Orb lowers the holder's damage output by 33%, Flame Orb heals the holder of Burns every turn, Lum Berries inflict a random status ailment on the holder upon consumption, &c).
Notable moves: Psychic, Psyshock, Air Slash, Shadow Ball, Signal Beam, Heat Wave, Dazzling Gleam, Calm Mind, Taunt, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Screens, Roost
Role Identification: General irritating bugger to deal with, despite a statline that's, well, pretty mediocre. 76/72/72 defensive stats just aren't enough in this meta, but its ability does have quite a lot going for it. It can come in on leads, bounce hazards back, and is immune to things like status and Taunt, but it can also stonewall item abusers, especially Choice abusers. Guts mons find their status constantly healed, Lefties walls take chip damage every turn Oxbow's on the field, pinch berries make things a lot worse for everyone involved... the list goes on. Ultimately, this is a fusion carried by a very powerful ability, but it's still pretty underwhelming despite good coverage and a pretty weird movepool. Don't underestimate it, though; while it may meander around the battle a bit, in the hands of a skilled trainer it'll break your ring by the time it's done with you. =]
cool tho
