It just hit me how to make something as powerful as "Protean" be fair. Give it a side effect that gives the opponent a free "anticipation" ability when ever they face this mon.
For example, if the opponent switches in a mon weak to one of your moves, no matter what their ability is, YOUR ability will allow them to "shudder" due to you having a move super-effective against them.
If Protean was like this, it would ease prediction and teams would have a clue of what the opponent's Greninja is running.
