One of the most forgettable Pokémon ever might finally be able to do something in this meta.

[OVERVIEW]

Cryogonal is a decent choice for an entry hazard remover for offensive teams due to its high Speed stat. Additionally, it possesses reliable recovery, which allows it to stay healthy to perform its job multiple times, as well as Knock Off to annoy opposing switch-ins. With a solid base 135 Special Defense, it's even capable of switching in on a lot of neutral special hits, giving it lots of opportunities to switch in. Its main STAB move, Freeze-Dry, is also very spammable, as Ice-resistant Pokemon are uncommon, and Freeze-Dry hits Water-types, the most common switch-ins to Ice-types, for super effective damage. Another boon to Cryogonal's ability to switch in is its immunity to most forms of entry hazards thanks to Levitate, avoiding all but Stealth Rock. However, Cryogonal has one of the worst defensive typings in the game, with just one resistance, which, in combination with its horrible base 50 Defense stat, severely limits what it can switch in on. Further compounding this issue is its weakness to Stealth Rock, which forces it to use Recover frequently and means even moves it would normally take well can 2HKO it after switching in. Lastly, without Hidden Power Fire, Cryogonal is completely walled by Doublade, the best spinblocker in the tier, even further reducing how often it can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moves
========

Entry hazard removal is required for nearly every team to remove Stealth Rock Rock, along with the other less common hazards. Freeze-Dry gives Cryogonal excellent coverage in just one moveslot, hitting Ground-, Grass-, Flying-, Dragon-, and Water-types for super effective damage, allowing it to threaten Pokemon like Decidueye, Nidoqueen, Feraligatr and more. Recover allows Cryogonal to restore its HP and do its job more than once, as it is very prone to being worn down. Lastly, Knock Off can let Cryogonal cripple common switch-ins such as Bronzong and Doublade, which are reliant on their item, before switching out to another teammate.

Set Details
========

216 Speed EVs and a Timid nature allows Cryogonal to make the most of its high base Speed, allowing it to outspeed and dent threats like Flygon, Roserade, and Shaymin, if not KO them outright. This spread also gives it enough HP and Special Defense to check Pokemon like Galvantula, Yanmega, Roserade, and Shaymin. Never-Melt Ice gives Cryogonal the needed power to 2HKO Pokemon like Dhelmise and Nidoqueen and 3HKO Mismagius, hurting their chances to switch in. Leftovers can be used to increase Cryogonal's longevity, though the drop in power is noticeable.

Usage Tips
========

Due to its abysmal Defense stat, Cryogonal can only come in on special attackers like Roserade and Dragalge, although it must be wary of a Devastating Drake from the latter. Otherwise, you will need to get Cryogonal in on a predicted switch, since any physical attack, except for Ground-type attacks, will 2HKO, if not OHKO it outright. After switching Cryogonal in, using Rapid Spin as soon as possible is advised, taking advantage of the fact that most of the time, your foe will have to switch out when Cryogonal switches in. However, finding time to use Recover is essential, as Cryogonal has just one resistance and is weak to Stealth Rock, meaning it needs to use Recover after nearly every switch in. If you're feeling risky, using Knock Off or your coverage move on a predicted switch can catch an opponent off guard, but this will backfire if you predict wrong.

Team Options
========

As a spinner, Cryogonal naturally pairs well with Pokemon weak to entry hazards, especially Spikes, as Cryogonal is immune to it, which Pokemon like Dragalge and Rhyperior appreciate being removed. Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock, such as Swellow, Moltres, and Honchkrow, also appreciate the removal. Cryogonal will almost always find itself on offensive teams, so offensive Pokémon Pokemon such as Comfey, Sharpedo, and Roserade make good partners that complement the team style. Ice-weak Pokemon like Flygon and Virizion also appreciate not having to stack a weakness just to add an entry hazard remover, as Cryogonal is the only hazard remover that isn't weak to Ice. Fire- and Fighting-type Pokemon appreciate Cryogonal's ability to force out Water- and Flying-types, and they also beat Steel- types that Cryogonal lets in. Lastly, being a Rapid Spin user, Cryogonal pairs well with Stealth Rock setters, such as Gligar, which resists Fighting for Cryogonal as well as walling most physical attackers, and Rhyperior and Seismitoad, which resist Fire.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Other Options
=============

Life Orb-boosted Hidden Power Fire allows Cryogonal to lure in and KO Escavalier, dent Doublade, 2HKO Mega Abomasnow and take on non-Explosion Mega Glalie. Toxic may be used in place of Knock Off to cripple non-Steel-type switch-ins to Cryogonal, although a fair number of them, such as Florges and Umbreon, carry Heal Bell. Dual screens Cryogonal is an option, as Cryogonal is fast enough to set up both Reflect and Light Screen before switching out or going down. Haze is also an option to deter setup sweepers, as Cryogonal is fairly weak and often lets dangerous Pokémon in to boost. A fully offensive spread with 252 Speed and 252 Special Attack EVs allows Cryogonal to threaten other entry hazard removers as well as Water-types with Freeze-Dry, but it loses its bulk and ability to check threats like Roserade.

Checks and Counters
===================

**Steel-types**: Pokemon such as Registeel, Durant, and Escavalier can come in freely on any of Cryogonal's moves and force it out, often before it can use Recover due to the threat of a KO.

**Physical Attackers*: Cryogonal's horrible base 50 Defense means it's incapable of switching into just about any physical attack without being instantly KOed, severely limiting its options to do its job.

**Pursuit Trappers**: Due to Cryogonal's extremely low Defense, one read from your opponent can spell doom for it, as Cryogonal does not have the bulk to take a Pursuit from the likes of Escavalier, Sneasel, and Aerodactyl.

**Status**: Cryogonal has no way of removing status on its own and is easy to wear down, so Toxic and other statuses further limit the number of times it can do its job.

**Fire-types**: Despite having good Special Defense, Cryogonal is helpless against most Fire- types, especially Salazzle, which uses it as setup bait, and Moltres and Rotom-H, which threaten it out with the threat of a KO.

Beef up team options a little more, it's slightly lacking at the moment. Include teammates that are negatively affected by Stealth Rock such as Yanmega, Swellow, etc. Haze, a full offensive set, Toxic, and dual screens in OO. Mention Pursuit trappers can mess it up, and put Toxic and other status in C&C.

Mention that without HP Fire it can't really do anything to doublade besides knocking off its item, which is good but fact remains cryo cant really touch the premier spinblocker/ghost type in the tier

replace Icicle Plate with Never-Melt Ice please, its a cooler item :3 (and obtainable in-game)

In usage tips mention spamming knock off on predicted switches seeing how Cryogonal can force around some switches mainly against grass types (besides viriz/chesnaught) and stuff like nidoqueen or something

- Cryogonal can usually only come in on Special Attacks or a predicted Double Switch,
examples for special attackers. nidoqueen (but emphasize that its 2hko'd by sludge wave) and kingdra are good enough I suppose

also put a space before and after the slash in the item part of the set

QC approved 2/3

I'm not a fan of this EV spread. It leaves Cryogonal far too frail, and Nevermelt-Ice Freeze Dry isn't even OHKO'ing Pokemon like Nidoqueen, Roserade, and Shaymin, so what's the point aside from 2HKO'ing Milotic that don't invest in Special Defense? Cryogonal gets great benefit from more bulk as it allows it to be a better check to Pokemon like Nidoqueen, as well as Shaymin and Roserade, as well as making it easier to spin.

Not sure what exactly the EV spread should be, but it should prolly have 216 Speed+ to outspeed Flygon and Shaymin, enough SpA to do significant damage to the 3 aforementioned Pokemon with Freeze Dry / Ice Beam (I think Ice Beam may be better to do more damage to those Pokemon, although Freeze Drying Mantine is really nice), and more bulk to check those 3 Pokemon a bit better, as well as other strong Special Attackers such as Dragalge.

DTC So I've managed to work out a more or less ideal spread for Cryogonal in 216 HP / 40 SpD / 252 Spe that gives Cryo the bulk it wants to check stuff, such as preventing a 2HKO from Life Orb Galvantula's Thunder and reduces Specs Yanmega's chances to 2HKO to nearly zero. Below are some of the calcs and favorable scenarios for Cryogonal, depending on its item:

Icicle Plate Cryo:
252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoqueen Sludge Wave vs. 216 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 149-177 (41.9 - 49.8%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0 SpA Icicle Plate Cryogonal Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Shaymin: 174-206 (51 - 60.4%) -- 90.6% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
252 SpA Choice Specs Yanmega Bug Buzz vs. 216 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 153-180 (43 - 50.7%) -- 2% chance to 2HKO
0 SpA Icicle Plate Cryogonal Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Galvantula: 130-154 (46.2 - 54.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Life Orb recoil
252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Leaf Storm vs. 216 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 200-238 (56.3 - 67%) -- no chance to KO after Stealth Rock damage
Leftovers Cryo:
252 SpA Life Orb Shaymin Seed Flare vs. 216 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 160-188 (45 - 52.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
0 SpA Cryogonal Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Shaymin: 146-174 (42.8 - 51%) -- 82.4% chance to 2HKO after Life Orb recoil
252 SpA Life Orb Roserade Sludge Bomb vs. 216 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 140-165 (39.4 - 46.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery and poison damage
0 SpA Cryogonal Freeze-Dry vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Roserade: 138-164 (52.8 - 62.8%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252 SpA Life Orb Noivern Flamethrower vs. 216 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 159-187 (44.7 - 52.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
Alternatively, if we follow DTC's 216 Speed EV spread to give Cryo max HP:
252+ SpA Adaptability Dragalge Devastating Drake (195 BP) vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 284-336 (78 - 92.3%)
252+ SpA Adaptability Dragalge Draco Meteor vs. 252 HP / 40 SpD Cryogonal: 192-226 (52.7 - 62%)
With Leftovers, Cryogonal will never be 2HKOed by Devastating Drake -> Recover -> Draco Meteor.

Also Miyami~~, you'd want to specify that the type of Nidoqueen which requires Icicle Plate for Freeze-Dry to 2HKO is a bulky variant, since offensive Nidoquens are always 2HKOed by unboosted Freeze-Dry. You may also wish to add that Icicle Plate-boosted Freeze-Dry can 3HKO Mismagius, greatly improving your chances of beating it on the switch-in.

I know this is two months later, I had school. Regardless, I've written up the analysis to use Punchshroom's set, and removed any mention of Nidoqueen. Ready for the third QC now.

- Without Nidoqueen in the tier I think the overview oversells Cryogonal by saying that "it is the best hazard control options for offensive teams" since without Nidoqueen to beat, and as a partner, that point is kind of mute. You can rephrase that first part by saying that "it makes for a decent choice as a spinner for offense" or something along those lines.

- Set Details isnt up to date since you mention 252 speed on it when the main spread has 216 speed, fix that.

- You should mention SR Users that pair well with Cryogonal on team options tbh. Can mention Gligar, Seismitoad and Rhyperior. Gligar cause resists fighting and blanket physical wall, seismitoad and rhyperior cause of fire-types.

- Can probably mention an offensive spread on Other options tbh, mention the risks of running that instead of the bulky one.

- Mention Fire-types in checks and counters section. Complete salazzle bait and cant do much against other fire types like Moltres and Rotom-Heat.

Tag me when changes are implemented for a second review.

Cryogonal is a decent choice for an entry hazard remover for offensive teams due to its high Speed stat. Additionally, it also possesses reliable recovery, which allows it to stay healthy to perform its job multiple times, and as well as Knock Off to annoy opposing switch- (AH)ins. With a solid base 135 Special Defense, it's even capable of switching in on a lot of neutrally neutral special hits, giving it lots of switch-in opportunities to switch in. Its main STAB move, Freeze-Dry, is also very spammable, as Ice has few resistances Ice-resistant Pokemon are uncommon (fixing this in another way is fine too, but it's not allowed to use 'resistances' as a noun when referring to Pokemon), and Freeze-Dry hits Water- (AH)types, the most common ice switch- (AH)ins to Ice-types, for super- (RH) (add space)effective damage. Another boon to Cryogonal's ability to switch in is its immunity to most forms of entry hazards through thanks to Levitate, avoiding all but Stealth Rock. However, Cryogonal has one of the worst defensive typings (Ice/Rock and Ice/Grass exist you can't say Ice is the worst defensive typing) in the game, with just one resistance, which, (AC) in combination with and a its horrible base 50 Defense stat, (AC) defence stat of 50 severely limits what it can switch in on. Further compounding this issue is its weakness to Stealth Rock, which forces forcing it to use Recover frequently and means meaning even moves it would normally take well can 2HKO it after Stealth Rock damage (I am assuming this is what you mean, what you had is ambiguous) push it into 2HKO range. Lastly, without Hidden Power Fire, Cryogonal is completely walled by Doublade, the best spinblocker in the tier, even further reducing how often it can remove entry hazards with Rapid Spin spin.

As Rapid Spin is Cryogonal's only niche, it should be on every Cryogonal set (all this says is 'Rapid Spin is important'. you need to explain why Rapid Spin is important and why Cryogonal is running it, no matter how obvious it may seem to you). Freeze-Dry gives Cryogonal excellent coverage in just one moveslot, hitting Ground- (AH), Grass- (AH), Flying- (AH), Dragon- (AH), and Water- (AH)types for weakness super effective damage., (period -> comma) This allows allowing it to threaten Pokemon like Mantine, (RC) and Donphan, (RC) and more. (splitting the sentences leaves you with a short sentence that doesn't add much on its own) Recover allows Cryogonal to restore its HP and do its job more than once, as it is very prone to being worn down. Lastly, Knock Off can let Cryogonal cripple common switch- (AH)ins such as Bronzong and Doublade, who which are reliant on their item, before switching out to another teammate.

Never-Melt Ice gives Cryogonal the needed power to 2HKO Pokémon Pokemon like Dhelmise or and Mantine, (RC) and 3HKO Mismagius, hurting its their (if talking about Mismagius only, change to 'the latter's') chances to switch in. Leftovers can be used to increase Cryogonal's longevity, though the drop in power is noticeable, (RC) as is the increase in longevity. (positives first, otherwise you get a sentence like 'option X is pretty good, but it's actually bad, but it's actually good')

Due to its abysmal Defence Defense stat, Cryogonal can only come in on special attackers like Roserade or and Dragalge, although you it must be wary of a Devestating Drake from the latter. Otherwise, you will need to get Cryogonal in by predicting a switch and switching it in at the same time predict a switch and double switch in (not every switch on a predicted switch by the opponent is a double, you can also predict a double by your opponent), since any physical attack, except for Ground- (AH)type attacks, (AC) will 2-shot it 2HKO, if not one-shot OHKO, (AC) it outright. After switching Cryogonal in, using Rapid Spin as soon as possible is advised, taking advantage of the fact that most of the time, when Cryogonal switches in, (RC) your opponent foe will have to switch out when Cryogonal switches in. (this fixes the flow of the sentence) However, finding time to use Recover is essential, as Cryogonal has just one resistance and is weak to Stealth Rock, meaning it needs to use Recover after nearly every switch- (RH) (add space)in. As a spinner, Cryogonal naturally pairs well with Pokémon Pokemon weak to entry hazards, especially Stealth Rocks (why especially Stealth Rock? wouldn't Pokemon very vulnerable to being worn down by Spikes appreciate Cryogonal even more cause it is immune to them?), such as Swellow, Moltres, or and Honchkrow. Cryogonal will almost always find itself on offensive teams, so offensive Pokémon Pokemon such as Comfey, Sharpedo, and Roserade make good partners that compliment the team style. Ice-weak Pokémon Pokemon like Flygon and Virizion also appreciate not having to stack a weakness just to add an entry hazard remover (from this I assume Cryogonal is the only relevant hazard remover not weak to Ice. If that's true this is fine, but maybe some examples should be added of other hazard removers that are weak to Ice. If that's not true, the wording needs to be changed). Fire- (AH) and Fighting- (AH)type Pokémon Pokemon appreciate Cryogonal's ability to force out Water- (AH) and Flying- (AH)types, and they also beat Steel- (AH)types that Cryogonal lets in. Just add the relevant new Pokemon whenever necessary and maybe we'll get a gp to give it a quick look afterwards.
