Wooper gif.gif

Wooper @ Eviolite
Level: 5
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 76 HP / 236 Def / 156 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
- Yawn

yeah yeah yeah it's Wooper I know seems bad. But, it does not get 2HKOed by anything this Staryu throws at it:
Staryu Hydro Pump vs. Water Absorb Wooper: 0-0 (0 - 0%) -- aim for the horn next time
200 SpA Life Orb Staryu Psychic vs. 76 HP / 156+ SpD Eviolite Wooper: 8-10 (34.7 - 43.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
200 SpA Life Orb Staryu Ice Beam vs. 76 HP / 156+ SpD Eviolite Wooper: 8-10 (34.7 - 43.4%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
200 SpA Life Orb Staryu Hidden Power Fire vs. 76 HP / 156+ SpD Eviolite Wooper: 3-4 (13 - 17.3%) -- possible 6HKO

In addition, it 2HKOes with EQ:
0 Atk Wooper Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Staryu: 10-13 (52.6 - 68.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

So, it switches in, Recovers until it has gained back enough HP to take two hits, and KOes Staryu (can do this immediately if it switches into Hydro). Nothing else needs to be said, it counters Staryu and can do it consistently throughout a match.

Also I fucking love this Pokemon. (MBY you better include this)

EDIT: forgot Analytic, but Staryu needs two max rolls for Analytic Psychic + Psychic to KO (same for Ice Beam)

200 SpA Life Orb Analytic Staryu Hydro Pump vs. 196 HP / 36+ SpD Eviolite Slowpoke: 9-12 (32.1 - 42.8%) -- 91.6% chance to 3HKO
200 SpA Life Orb Staryu Hydro Pump vs. 196 HP / 36+ SpD Eviolite Slowpoke: 6-8 (21.4 - 28.5%) -- 94.9% chance to 4HKO

Eviolite Mantyke can switch into any move Staryu throws at it and at best it can 3HKO Mantyke with Ice Beam or Psychic, but only 1.1% of the time, the rest do completely nothing. Mantyke can tank two hits with ease and proceed to 2HKO Staryu with Hidden Power Grass without any major difficulty.

200 SpA Life Orb Staryu Psychic vs. 76 HP / 0 SpD Eviolite Mantyke: 6-8 (27.2 - 36.3%) -- 1.1% chance to 3HKO

Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Honestly it doesn't matter which type of Magnemite it is, they both live with Sturdy and that's all that matters. Berry Juice Magnemite can switch in, live, and heal with Berry Juice to then fire off a Volt Switch that OHKOes. Scarf Magnemite outspeeds with Scarf to OHKO anyways. Just remember to remove hazards.

Munchlax can switch into Hydro Pump and proceeds to kill Staryu after LO damage. Fire Punch is for the usual coverage and RestTalk provides recovery and a Spore switch-in. It also works as a check to special attackers like Abra and Gastly and sun.

I'll vote for Mantyke, on the grounds that it is probably the best counter, though I wholeheartedly disagree (why not RestTalk? why Rain Dance when no Swift Swim?).

The voting period is over and the winner is Chinchou!

Week 5's threat is Life Orb Gastly:

Gastly @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Level: 5
EVs: 36 Def / 196 SpA / 76 SpD / 196 Spe
Timid Nature
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Dazzling Gleam
- Substitute

Post your counters! :]

Abra @ Focus Sash
Level: 5
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 36 Atk / 240 SpA / 200 Spe
Timid Nature
- Psychic
- Dazzling Gleam
- Hidden Power Fighting
- Energy Ball

Simple. Switch into any move, live thanks to Sash, outspeed and OHKO with Psychic. If Gastly Substitutes you still get to hit it twice because it didn't knock you down to Sash on the switch in, so you kill it.

Munchlax @ Berry Juice
Ability: Thick Fat
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 Def / 236 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Pursuit
- Body Slam
- Fire Punch
- Recycle

Munchlax resists every hit from Gastly thanks to its monstrous Special Defense, and it can threaten Gastly by its access to Pursuit, KOing it on the switch. If it needs to heal, Recycle is the key.

Chespin @ Eviolite
Ability: Bulletproof
Level: 5
EVs: 68 HP / 28 Atk / 156 Def / 236 SpD
Impish Nature
- Seed Bomb
- Zen Headbutt
- Synthesis
- Spikes / Rock Slide / Drain Punch (i'm slashing it because the one you choose here is irrelevant to actually countering gastly)

One of Chespin's uses is literally to counter this gastly set.
Bulletproof makes it so Gastly can only damage it with Dazzling Gleam, and ZHB 2HKOes Gastly. Dgleam needs to get a 1/16 roll twice to 3HKO, and you can just Synthesis off the damage anyways(and even set up spikes if you really want to).
196 SpA Life Orb Gastly Dazzling Gleam vs. 68 HP / 236 SpD Eviolite Chespin: 6-9 (26 - 39.1%) -- 84.5% chance to 3HKO
(6, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 9)
28 Atk Chespin Zen Headbutt vs. 0 HP / 36 Def Gastly: 16-20 (84.2 - 105.2%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO
(16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 18, 20)

Grimer-Alola @ Eviolite
Ability: Poison Touch
Level: 5
EVs: 36 HP / 116 Atk / 116 Def / 196 SpD
Impish Nature
- Shadow Sneak
- Pursuit
- Knock Off
- Gunk Shot

Alolan Grimer can directly switch on Gastly, thanks to its typing and 25/21/21 bulk, and trap it with Pursuit. In case of Substitute, pursuit or Shadow Sneak will be as effective.

Zorua @ Flyinium Z
Ability: Illusion
Level: 5
EVs: 236 Atk / 36 SpD / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Bounce
- Knock Off

Simple, but flames. KO something disguised as like a Timb with knock. Gast will come in to revenge or sub up. Sucker it. No way you sub up on a foo or timb. That's idiotic. Let's say you sucker it. They go fighting mon to revenge you. Nah you win offensive foo tie and skystrike that man to next tuesday. Pursuit is also an option over SD for a 94% ohko after rocks assuming no switch. You can disguise it for let's say abra and pursuit it as he goes alola-grimes. Also Drew smells like a stunky's ass

Outspeed and OHKOs Gastly, nothing Gastly can do. Choice Scarf Vullaby can also switch into any of Gastly's moves as well.
