[OVERVIEW]
Charizard is a devastatingly strong wallbreaker under sun with only two switch-ins in the entire tier: Gigalith and Thick Fat Snorlax. Unlike other Fire-types, it has access to Solar Beam, allowing it to hit Water- and Rock-types like Milotic and Rhyperior, and its decently high Speed is all it needs to wallbreak efficiently. However, a huge Stealth Rock weakness makes reliable hazard removal absolutely mandatoryon Charizard’s team and it's hard to find switch-in opportunities for Charizard because of its lacking bulk and constant chip damage from Solar Power. It has very underwhelming power without sun, and it faces competition from other sun sweepers that don't require as much support like Salazzle and Venusaur.

Moves
========
Fire Blast is Charizard's main attack due to its amazingly huge power under sun, OHKOing many Pokemon that don't resist it, while Solar Beam helps Charizard beat Water-types like Milotic and Rock-types like Rhyperior. Focus Blast rounds off Charizard’s coverage by 2HKOing Gigalith, which otherwise counters Charizard thanks to Sand Stream, and Thick Fat Snorlax, which can potentially take two Fire Blasts. Flamethrower is a safer alternative to Fire Blast, which is especially helpful when cleaning a weakened team. Air Slash can be useful for hitting Araquanid and Kommo-o, which can be problematic for sun teams to deal with.
Set Details

The given EV spread maximizes Charizard’s offensive prowess while making it as fast as possible. A Modest nature is used due to the lack of relevant targets in Charizard’s Speed tier. With a Modest nature, Charizard can accomplish insane feats like OHKOing Umbreon and Porygon2 after Stealth Rock damage. However, a Timid nature allows it to outspeed Moltres, which can hit it with a strong sun-boosted Fire Blast of its own, and Speed tie with non-Choice Scarf Flygon, OHKOing it if it wins the tie. Solar Power is the only reason to use Charizard in RU because it’s otherwise completely outclassed by stronger and faster offensive Fire-types that don’t need as much support.
Usage Tips
========
Try not to switch Charizard into play if Stealth Rock is in the field unless absolutely necessary, since it gets worn down extremely fast when coupled with Solar Power recoil. Charizard is also somewhat frail, making it unable to switch into powerful neutral attacks. It's a very mediocre wallbreaker without sun up, so make sure to send out Torkoal or Ninetales beforehand. Fire Blast should be used often, especially early-game, to break walls. If the opponent has many Fire-resistant Pokemon on their team, such as Araquanid and Milotic, try to predict their switch-ins to nail them with the appropriate coverage move. This is especially important if the opponent has a Gigalith, since it takes very little damage from any move except Focus Blast. Use Flamethrower only when its accuracy is needed, since it’s much weaker than Fire Blast.
Team Options
========
Because Charizard is exclusively used on sun teams, pairing it with Torkoal or Ninetales is necessary. Entry hazard removers are also a must when using Charizard; otherwise, Stealth Rock and Solar Power damage hamper its wallbreaking abilities. Pokemon like Gligar and Sigilyph can use Defog throughout a match, aiding it in wallbreaking more effectively. Venusaur is a great sun sweeper that can take advantage of Charizard removing problematic walls like Dragalge and Registeel. Another Chlorophyll user that sun teams occasionally use is Leafeon, but it doesn't share the same synergy that Venusaur has with Charizard, since Charizard cannot pressure Leafeon's counters in Kommo-o and Moltres.

Other Options
=============
Life Orb may seem appealing at first, but Choice Specs enables many OHKOs and 2HKOs that Life Orb cannot, and with Life Orb equipped, Charizard loses 22% of its health every turn it attacks. Charizard’s only niche is that of a sun wallbreaker; any other set like Z-Happy Hour or Z-Sunny Day is unviable in RU.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Stealth Rock**: Stealth Rock severely limits Charizard’s longevity due to Solar Power recoil, limiting Charizard to a single switch onto the field.
**Gigalith**: Though unable to take multiple Focus Blasts, Gigalith takes very little damage from Charizard’s other moves and can OHKO it with its STAB moves or set up Stealth Rock.
**Thick Fat Snorlax**: Snorlax almost always avoids a 2HKO from sun-boosted Fire Blast and can either use Rest or fish for paralysis with Body Slam. However, a well-timed Focus Blast will 2HKO Snorlax.
**Faster Attackers**: Charizard has a solid Speed tier, but is still outpaced by powerful attackers such as Choice Scarf Rotom-C, Choice Scarf Tyrantrum, Zygarde-10%, and Salazzle.
**Offensive Pressure**: Making offensive plays to prevent Charizard from coming in is a great way to limit how many KOs it can net. Opponents can also avoid bringing passive Pokemon in for continuous periods of time and use Pokemon that beat Charizard in a one-on-one scenario such, as Araquanid.
