Set Description

By forgoing the immediate speed control or power of its Choice Scarf and Choice Specs sets for Calm Mind, Tapu Lele turns into a devastating setup wallbreaker that terrorizes passive teams. Calm Mind takes advantage of the switches Tapu Lele forces, allowing it to muscle past checks like Blissey after a boost. Psyshock is the Psychic-type STAB move of choice on this set as it takes advantage of specially-oriented walls like Galarian Slowking and Blissey. Moonblast is Tapu Lele's strongest STAB move outside of Psychic Terrain, which will happen quite often with this set as Calm Mind Tapu Lele generally likes to stay on the field for multiple turns to set up and wallbreak. Moonblast most notably has fantastic synergy with Psyshock, as it destroys Dark-types like Weavile and Tyranitar that are otherwise immune to the latter. Focus Blast gives Tapu Lele excellent coverage as it nails Steel-type checks that resist both Psyshock and Moonblast like Heatran, Melmetal, and Ferrothorn. Shadow Ball can also be run in this moveslot if Tapu Lele desires to obliterate stall teams that use Pokemon like Aegislash, Shedinja, Slowking, and Jirachi to wall Tapu Lele, but makes Tapu Lele less effective against more standard teams that rely on the aforementioned Steel-types to check Tapu Lele. Thunderbolt is another alternative that seeks to serve as a midground between the aforementioned moves by threatening defensive cores made up of Pokemon that either resist Moonblast or Psyshock, such as Slowking, Toxapex, and Corviknight. Removing Corviknight is particularly notable, as it resists Psyshock and Moonblast while being neutral to Tapu Lele's other coverage moves. Twisted Spoon is the preferred item on this set as it powers up Psyshock to outrageous levels, allowing it to 2HKO Blissey unboosted and do the same to Eviolite Chansey after a boost. A Timid nature ensures that Tapu Lele outruns threats like Swords Dance Landorus-T and Timid Nidoking.

Team Options
========

As Tapu Lele is relatively frail and lacks Speed if not running Choice Scarf, Calm Mind Tapu Lele appreciates teammates that provide speed control and bring it onto the field safely. This makes Choice Scarf users like Urshifu-R and Kartana good offensive partners as they outspeed threats like Choice Specs Dragapult and Blacephalon that force Tapu Lele out. Urshifu-R has the distinction of being able to pivot Tapu Lele in safely with U-turn since Calm Mind Tapu Lele preys on the bulk of Urshifu-R's switch-ins, such as Toxapex, Buzzwole, and Dragonite. Checks to the aforementioned Dragapult and Blacephalon are highly appreciated: Heatran is an exemplary teammate as it has the bulk to take boosted Shadow Balls and retaliate with Earth Power or Toxic. It also appreciates Tapu Lele removing specially defensive walls that can stave it off like Gastrodon and Hippowdon, while threatening the Steel-types that switch into Tapu Lele, such as Melmetal and Ferrothorn. Specially Defensive Landorus-T is another Dragapult and Blacephalon check that sacrifices the ability to take hits comfortably for the utility of U-turn to bring Tapu Lele in safely. It is important to have checks to physical threats that naturally outspeed Tapu Lele: Utility Tornadus-T can take on Urshifu-R and Kartana while Rotom-W is a good stopgap to Weavile and Urshifu-R. Both Pokemon come with the bonus of providing safe entry for Tapu Lele with U-turn and Volt Switch respectively. Weavile has unique synergy with Tapu Lele, as it can offensively pressure Dragapult thanks to its typing and overload Steel-type checks like Ferrothorn, Heatran, and Melmetal that are often tasked to deal with Tapu Lele as well.

By forgoing the immediate speed control or power of its Choice Scarf and Choice Specs sets for Calm Mind, Tapu Lele turns into a devastating setup wallbreaker that terrorises passive teams great start. Calm Mind takes advantage of the switches Tapu Lele forces, allowing it to muscle past checks like Blissey and Gastrodon after a boost. Psyshock is the Psychic-type STAB move of choice on this set as it takes advantage of specially-oriented checks i wouldnt call them checks if they lose to psyshock! walls maybe like Galarian Slowking and Blissey. Moonblast is Tapu Lele's strongest STAB move outside of Psychic Terrain, which will happen quite often with this set as Calm Mind Tapu Lele generally likes to stay on the field for multiple turns to set up and wallbreak mention the coverage it gives as well . Focus Blast gives Tapu Lele excellent coverage as it hits Steel-type checks like Heatran, Melmetal, and Ferrothorn for super effective damage saying super effective damage is just repeating dex info. Shadow Ball can also be run in this moveslot if Tapu Lele desires to obliterate stall teams that use Pokemon like Aegislash, Shedinja, Slowking, and Jirachi to wall Tapu Lele, but makes Tapu Lele less effective against more standard teams that rely on the aforementioned Steel-types to check Tapu Lele. mention thunderbolt Twisted Spoon is the preferred item on this set as it powers up Psyshock to outrageous levels, allowing it to 2HKO Blissey unboosted and do the same to Eviolite Chansey after a boost. you could mention other items if you like, quick claw would be a kinda insane option to mention but it is a thing you can do on this that ive seen once or twice. up to your discretion if you want to put that in, it might be better for OO A Timid nature ensures that Tapu Lele outruns threats like Swords Dance Landorus-T and Timid Nidoking.

Urshifu-R has the distinction of being able to pivot Tapu Lele in safely with U-turn on a predicted switch i wouldnt say predicted switch because like lead mus etc or whatever, but more importantly what are you bringing lele in on?. a way i like to think about this that you could talk about is that lele locks down the slower mus and these things lock up the faster matchups. you should also mention how lele breaks for them for sure - what stuff does it kill that they struggle w? Checks to the Ghost-type threats above are highly appreciated: Heatran is an exemplary teammate as it has the bulk to take boosted Shadow Balls and Flash Fire to render Fire-type moves from Dragapult and Blacephalon that normally hit Steel-types for super effective damage like Flamethrower and Fire Blast ineffective. It can also combine with Tapu Lele to break through shared checks like Blissey and Gastrodon. Specially Defensive Landorus-T is another Dragapult and Blacephalon check that sacrifices the ability to take Draco Meteor and Flamethrower comfortably for the utility of U-turn to bring Tapu Lele in safely. It is important to have checks to physical threats that naturally outspeed Tapu Lele are: Utility Tornadus-T can take on Urshifu-R and Kartana while Rotom-W is a good stopgap to Weavile and Urshifu-R. Both Pokemon come with the bonus of providing safe entry for Tapu Lele with U-turn and Volt Switch respectively. you can mention stuff like weavile that overloads checks, think weavile's synergy w lele is worth mentioning
