Welcome to UU's newest project: SM UU Break This Team! This project follows a simple layout, similar to the submission and voting stages that other projects have implemented in the past, such as nv's UU Matchmaking project. Most metagame defining teams may seem perfect on the surface, but they all have their undeniable flaws, and this project aims to help point out those weak links. Each week, I'll post a team that was built by someone invested in the metagame, and the participants will then try to break this team with a core made of just two Pokémon.

As stated earlier, the project will have two phases each week: the submission phase and the voting phase. The submission phase will have a duration of five days and participants are allowed to post a core with two Pokémon within that time. Then the voting phase will last two days and people can vote for their two favorite cores (this number is subject to change, depending on the amount of submitted cores). Feel free to discuss about team's impact on the metagame and what kind of core will eventually defeat it, if you want to. Lastly, if you win a week, you will be placed in the Hall of Fame and in the SMUU Projects Hall of Fame, and if you won three weeks, you'll be able to PM me with your own team and it will be submitted in this thread for that other people try to break it!

⏫Rules⏫

  • Please don't post shitty one-liners. This is a forum project, not a firebot thread.
    • This includes extremely short descriptions. You don't need to write an elaborate essay, but try to at least provide a satisfactory description of the core. Don't post "these Pokémon work well together and I think that it will break this team xD", try to elaborate on a good post with an explanation of how the core performs against the team.
  • Don't post gimmicky sets. Using Flamethrower Mega Aerodactyl to take advantage of a Forretress is NOT a viable choice.
  • Again, participants are only allowed to post one core with only two Pokémon.
  • Don't vote on your own core, or I'll ask forum moderators to delete your post.
    • Don't rally people to vote for your own core. This is not fair at all to the other participants, and if you're caught doing this then you won’t be allowed to post or even offer any ideas in this thread.
  • A small explanation would be appreciated when voting.
  • You CAN'T submit Pokémon which are under suspect test because they're not officially in the tier.
  • Participants are allowed to do reservations, but if they don't post the sets with the explanation within 48 hours, other participants are allowed to take it. If you want an extension due to real life or internet issues, PM me (Highways) AND Accelgor.
  • Most importantly, have fun!

I built this team soon after Clefable dropped to UU. It's a bulky offense team designed around a group of special sweepers that can break down offensive and balanced teams alike. Swampert provides Stealth Rock support and consolidates a lot of roles into a single slot. It checks a lot of threats that would otherwise threaten the team and serves as a general-purpose pivot. Scizor serves as the team's main physically offensive presence, helps me grab momentum with U-turn, and revenge kills troublesome Pokemon with Bullet Punch. I like the utility of Knock Off, which allows me to remove items from Pokemon that would normally switch in with little difficulty, but Pursuit is an option to pressure Blissey for my special sweepers more effectively. Celebi functions as my primary special breaker and can take advantage of Pokemon that would ordinarily cause problems for other members of the team. The HP EVs hit a Leftovers number and guarantee that Celebi survives a Wing Attack from Mega Aerodactyl after Stealth Rock, making Pursuit mindgames much easier to win. Clefable serves as a combined defensive pivot and win condition. It checks dangerous Pokemon like Mega Sharpedo and Latias while also retaining offensive presence. Flamethrower allows it to lure Pokemon like Scizor and Bisharp. Knock Off is an acceptable alternative to improve this team's matchup against Blissey. The combination of Celebi and Clefable can often pressure Blissey to the point where Raikou is able to break through what remains of the opposing team. Raikou is the last of the team's special sweepers and gives me a bit more speed and a secondary check to Flying-types and bulky Water-types. The EV spread allows it to set up on Amoonguss more easily and prevents Adamant Iron Plate Scizor's Bullet Punch from breaking the Substitute. It also makes Raikou's Substitutes more bulky in general and enables Raikou to set up on passive Pokemon more easily. Mega Aerodactyl provides speed control, revenge-killing capabilities, and Pursuit support. It's useful for threatening offensive teams and trapping problematic Pokemon. It also serves as a check to opposing Flying- and Fire-types and lures in bulky Ground-types that Celebi can take advantage of.

Good luck guys! Deadline is Wednesday, 8th March! Oh, and you CAN'T submit a core with Azumarill!

Right. Infernape on its own can just royally screw over half this team, being able to actually just OHKO three of the team members from the get-go and hammer Clefable into a pile of pink goo at +2, while its forced to try and Softboiled itself to health even at +1. However, the last two things can annoy it, so Krookodile comes in to save the day, providing an Electric immunity and a soft check to this Aerodactyl set which can soften it up a bit and potentially put it into Vacuum Wave ko-range. Just a good offensive pairing that can hit pretty hard and be scary.

This bith mon support each other really well. Specsed Volcanion gets a kill every time it comes in and Scizor doesn't just counter its checks but it also acts as win condicton.
They are both red.

p.s. U-Turn on Scizor is better in general but Bug Bite works better against that team because of Substite Raikou.
Same thing with Volcanion, Earth Power is better since it hits opposing Volcanions which should be more common than Gastrodon. Although hp grass one shots Swampert.

Ok basically Celebi will join and get a +2 everytime swampert or clefable is up. Hp fire can lure scizor since the team hasn't got others celebi good checks. The spread is a copypaste for aero's mindgames but the hp's can help for the band BP of scizor as well. Since celebi can't win alone i decided to add hippo as support. Hippo can join on scizor's bp and help with Aerodactyl. I've got Whirlwind here for cm raikou but you can use ice fang for the Aero 1v1 too. I noticed a big problem today with a mindgame(when celebi is in scizor's BP range) and my celebi check is a speedtie with the other celebi lol.

Sorry for my bad english, i'm trying to learn it ;_;

Not much to say here: Once Magneton traps Scizor, CM Reuniclus should win. Swampert can phaze it out but not without taking considerable damage in the process and will most likely only delay the inevitable.

Disclaimer: I didn't pick Signal Beam specifically for this team but because it is actually my preferred option over Focus Blast since it also hits opposing Psychic types and Dark types more reliably.

I'm gonna start this off with a rather unorthodox set that does really well against most of these standard-ish balances that you find on the ladder. Choice Specs gives Latias tremendous power that it misses out on with Life Orb or Soul Dew. With regards to this team specifically, Specs Psychic 2hkos the Clefable spread, which is incredibly valuable as it appears to be this teams primary Latias check. After the opponent realizes Clef isn't safe most of the time, you can condition them to go Scizor, as even if you click Psychic rather than HP Fire on the incoming Scizor, you are winning the exchange in the long run due to this Scizors lack of roost. Trick helps late game to lock Raikou into a move which makes it much less dangerous seeing as it lacks Volt Switch.

Others are noticing that Scizor does very well against this team because of the damage it does to Aero and Clef as well as the passivity of Swampert. Scizor can come in to revenge kill either of the aforementioned mons and either kill them or U-Turn to gain momentum. Latias can come in on any of this teams potential Scizor switchins, including a possible Raikou after taking U-Turn damage, and threaten them out. In addition, due to the tendency of Pert and Scizor lacking recovery to get worn down throughout the match, SD Scizor is a very potent win condition against this team. It doesn't really set up against much besides a choice locked Scizor (or Raikou below 50%), but its merits midgame definitely remedy this. I might even say that CB Scizor is more effective against this team, but the HP investment on this SD Scizor, Celebi's HP Fire does 87% max.

Literally nothing on this team safely switches into Choice Specs Hydreigon. Anything that comes into threaten a choice locked move is promptly dealt with by Hippowdon - allowing for easy Stealth Rock. Hippowdon can spend its time phazing and recovering off any significant damage and its biggest threat, Celebi, is a free switch for Hydreigon. Stealth Rock coupled with the sheer number of switches that Hydreigon will be causing will wear the team down, and eventually cause it to crumble.

Similarly to Nightingales, Infernape puts in a lot of work against this team. Infernape has enough SpA Evs to knock out Swampert with Grass Knot after Rocks while Fire Blast OHKOs Celebi and Scizor. Alternatively to Mach Punch, Gunk Shot can be used to lure in Clefable and other unsuspecting Fairy-types. However, Fire Blast will still do a decent chunk to Clefable. Swampert checks Raikou and Mega-Aerodactyl very well too since it is neutral to Hidden Power Ice and can also phaze out Raikou and Clefable if they try to set up.

Honestly thought that this would be reserved by now as I consider this core to be the best way to beat this weeks team. Either way, there's not much to explain. Specs Kyurem is given the opportunity to click Ice Beam by Swampert, Celebi and Raikou, it also outspeeds both Scizor and clef which means it can revenge kill them if they have been damaged enough and if Scizor isn't locked into BP. The only ice resist is Offensive Scizor which takes a huge amount, it can come in only once if rocks are up. Tentacruel basically covers every counterplays this team has to kyurem, these counterplays being getting rocks up and pressuring it with Aero. Tentacruel removes hazards, tanks Scizor for days and can set toxic spikes up which this team can't remove which makes beating Swampert, Raikou and Celebi even easier. Haze also means Clefable won't be able to win by setting up as long the team has something in the back to damage it decently. I don't think theres is a way for this core to not beat this team as long as it's used half decently.

Primarina has 1 switch-in on his team (for hydro) which is Celebi. Hydro has a 7% chance to 2hko after Stealth Rocks so Celebi is forced to recover. Then you can promptly switch to Bisharp and pursuit trap it. While you know it has pursuit in a battle it would be less obvious that Bisharp is CB. If the user of this team goes for HP Fire Bisharp lives anyway with max rolls being 57%. After Celebi dies just find opportunities to get in Primarina and he has to choose something to sack.
