Beedrill (NU Analysis)

Disaster Area

formerly Piexplode
[Overview]
- Appalling bulk
- 4x resistance to Fighting and a couple of nice moves give it a niche.
- Baton Pass is a big draw.
- Good base 80 Attack, with Physical STABs, but an easily walled STAB combo.
- Interesting movepool.
- Its frailty, in spite of a solid typing, makes passing boosts a little challenging, especially more than once.

[SET]
name: Baton Pass
move 1: Baton Pass
move 2: Agility
move 3: Protect
move 4: Hidden Power Bug / Sludge Bomb
item: Leftovers
nature: Jolly
evs: 72 HP / 252 Def / 176 Spe
ivs: 30 SpD / 30 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]
- Outspeeds Adamant CB Hitmonchan, and avoids being 2HKOd by Jolly CB Hitmonchan's Sky Uppercut or Hidden Power Ghost.
- Protect helps in survival versus Hitmonchan.
- Hidden Power Bug or Sludge Bomb is STAB. Ground, Poison, and Ghost all resist both of Beedrill's STABs, so an alternative Hidden Power, or something like Brick Break could be run to hit a specific target.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]
- Can also set up versus Poison-type attackers such as Arbok.
- Pair with something that likes a speed boost, and can come in on stuff Beedrill usually lures out (think any Steel, Rock, Ground, Poison, or Ghost type pretty much..) - with Protect you can additionally scout them a little - if you pair it with a couple of potentially happy recievers, the sort of things that with a spped boost annihilates offense, then you can abuse Hitmonchan's existence on the opposing win to nab what's almost a free win. Clamperl is an interesting example. With Deepseatooth and Modest it hits 574 Special Attack, and with the remaining EVs can hit 162 Speed - the magic number, allowing it to outspeed the whole metagame at +2. However, its bulk's pretty mediocre (especially when there's no EVs to invest in its bulk), meaning priority users.. can make light work of it.

[Other Options]
- Swords Dance, Endeavor appear on the list of options more interesting to consider, but ultimately the bee's stats are so poor that it's unlikely to pull off anything more than is suggested in the existing set.

[Checks and Counters]
- Bug, Poison, Steel, Rock, Ground, and Ghost all handle its most common attacks pretty handily. Not running something it can set up on is helpful. Phazers such as Golbat and Flareon totally nullify it.
