One of the biggest problems we've been having throughout the years with Battling 101 involves tutees. Many of the tutees who sign up are completely new to the game and aren't aware of the most basic of things such as EVs and natures. Additionally, many of the tutees who sign up for the program go inactive and leave their tutors hanging, causing distress for everyone involved. We've decided that from now on, we're going to be a little more stringent when deciding who receives a tutor.
People who we judge to have at least a decent understanding of the game and have shown involvement in the community and are genuinely looking to improve and stick around to apply what they've learned will be receiving priority. The new users who sign up and are completely new to the game and unfortunately are prone to becoming inactive will be redirected to Smogon's Mentorship program where they will be able to integrate themselves more with the Smogon community and learn more about the game before signing up for Battling 101.
A lot of our tutors have been burned out because their tutees are essentially clueless and expect their tutors to teach them everything starting from the very basics. This can be very discouraging for tutors. Users who are newer to the game are better suited to seeking help from the Mentorship program before signing up for Battling 101, and so by using our judgement, we will be redirecting people there. Users who we deem a non-risk to go inactive and show some level of understanding of the game and willingness to improve will be given priority when it comes to receiving a tutor. The Battling 101 program is meant to help those who need a slight push to reach their maximum potential, and so we will be following this from here on out.
To help Battling 101's partnership with the Mentorship program, Plus, a staff member of the Mentorship program, will be joining us and working closely with us to make things run smoothly.
