Overview
########

Mega Absol has fantastic offensive stats and the wide movepool to back it up. Mega Absol has plenty of options offensively, with moves including Knock Off, Sucker Punch, Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Superpower, and Play Rough. It also has access to Swords Dance, boosting its already high Attack to insane levels. Its ability when Mega Evolved, Magic Bounce, further helps its offensive presence, preventing Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp and even Stealth Rock, bouncing them back at the opponent, and it excels at bothering lead Pokemon such as Froslass. However, Mega Absol is immensely frail, struggling to take even neutral hits, making it nearly impossible to switch into attacks. It also has poor Speed before Mega Evolving, meaning it is forced to use Sucker Punch on faster threats.

Swords Dance
########
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Play Rough / Superpower
ability: Justified
item: Absolite
evs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
nature: Jolly / Adamant

Moves
========

Swords Dance boosts Mega Absol's Attack to crazy levels and works great in combination with Mega Absol's ability, which bounces back moves such as Will-O-Wisp and Thunder Wave. Knock Off is a powerful STAB attack that also removes its target's item. Sucker Punch is powerful priority against Pokemon that can outspeed Mega Absol, and it usually grants a safe turn to Mega Evolve against faster threats. Play Rough is a great way to hit Dragon-, Dark-, and Fighting-type Pokemon, such as Salamence, Krookodile, and Chesnaught, super effectively, but Superpower can be used for greater power if the stat drops aren't troublesome. Superpower does not hit Fighting- and Dragon-types super effectively, however.

Set Details
========

The 4 Special Defense EVs give common Download users an Attack boost instead of a Special Attack boost. 252 Attack EVs maximize Mega Absol's damage output, while maximum Speed is used to Speed tie with other base 115 Speed Pokemon. An Absolite is the only item you want to equip, as non-Mega Absol is unviable in UU. Justified can be used to let Absol switch into weak Dark-type moves before Mega Evolving to get a free Attack boost. An Adamant nature can be used for a slight power increase, but Jolly is the preferred nature to outspeed Pokemon such as Froslass and Infernape after Mega Evolving.

Usage Tips
========

Do not be reckless switching Mega Absol into attacks. It is extremely frail and can't take many hits, sometimes even resisted ones, especially if there are entry hazards up. Mega Absol does, however, have plenty of free switch opportunities to defensive Pokemon such as Blissey, because most of them fear Knock Off and Magic Bounce, which gives Absol a free turn of setup. However, Mega Absol is best used for late-game cleaning, once its checks and counters have taken prior damage. Before Mega Evolving, Absol can switch into a predicted weak Dark-type attack, such as Knock Off, as the damage is reduced when the target is holding a Mega Stone, to get a free Attack boost due to Justified. Very few things are safe switch-ins to Mega Absol at +2 or even +1 thanks to its massive Attack stat, so finding opportunities to set up are a must.

Team Options
========

Mega Absol appreciates the extra damage entry hazards give foes when it is attempting to sweep, so Pokemon such as Forretress, which also handles Florges, Aromatisse, and Mega Aggron, that can set up Stealth Rock are decent choices. Roserade is a good teammate that can handle Florges, one of Mega Absol's biggest checks, and can cripple other switch-ins with Sleep Powder. Pokemon with Volt Switch or U-turn, such as Rotom-H or Mienshao, can provide good opportunities for Mega Absol to get up a free Swords Dance.

Other Options
########

Mega Absol works as a decent Pursuit trapper if the foe is afraid of taking a Knock Off. Iron Tail can be used to hit Pokemon such as Florges, although the 75% accuracy is a huge downfall. A combination of Swords Dance and Baton Pass can be used to pass boosts to teammates. Mixed Mega Absol with Fire Blast to hit Forretress or Ice Beam to hit Salamence is an option if the rest of your team has trouble with them. Will-O-Wisp is a nice lure that can burn common switch-ins such as Donphan and Salamence.

Checks & Counters
########

**Mega Aggron**: Mega Aggron can easily tank any move other than Fire Blast, which doesn't even do much, and has a large chance to OHKO back with Heavy Slam.

**Physical Walls**: Dedicated physical walls such as Suicune, Rhyperior, Swampert, and Donphan can take hits relatively well. Suicune can fish for Scald burns, while Donphan OHKOes after a bit of prior damage.

**Faster Threats**: Faster threats that have enough bulk to survive a Sucker Punch, such as Crobat and Choice Scarf Mienshao can take advantage of Mega Absol's mediocre bulk.

**Fairy-types**: Fairy-types such as Florges resist Mega Absol's STAB moves and take little from any move outside of Iron Tail. Most have a good chance to OHKO with Moonblast.

Why aren't you Dark / Fairy type
Overview
########
  • Amazing offensive stats with 150 Attack, 115 Special Attack and 115 Speed
  • Incredible movepool with a lot of options on both attacking sides
  • Great ability in Magic Bounce
  • STAB priority in Sucker Punch
  • STAB Knock Off
  • Immensely frail, making it nearly impossible to switch in to any attack
  • Poor Speed before mega evolving
Swords Dance
########
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Knock Off
move 3: Sucker Punch
move 4: Play Rough / Superpower
ability: Justified
item: Absolite
evs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 SpD
nature: Jolly / Adamant
Moves
========
  • Knock Off for a spamable STAB move
  • Sucker Punch for priority
  • Swords Dance to boost Attack
  • Play Rough is a better way to hit Dark, Dragon and Fighting types like Salamence, Chesnaught and Krookodile without a stat drop
  • Superpower to hit Steel and Dark types like Krookodile, Hydreigon, Empoleon and Absol
Set Details
========
  • 4 SpD to give Download users an Attack boost
  • Max Attack to maximize damage, max speed to allow Absol to outspeed base 115s
  • Absolite is the only item you want to run since Absol needs the Speed and ability
  • Adamant is good for max firepower, but Jolly can be used to outspeed non-Scarfed Mienshao and Frosslass
Usage Tips
========
  • Do not be reckless with switching Absol into attacks. It's extremely frail and cannot take hits very well.
  • Knock Off is your best move to spam, since preventing your opponent from using an item the whole match is extremely helpful.
  • Absol has plenty of free switch-ins against Defensive Pokémon like Blissey, since most of them fear Knock Off, and it leaves Absol free to set up
  • Before Mega Evolving, Absol can switch into weak dark type moves and get a free Attack boost
Team Options
========
  • Absol likes having hazards on the opponent's side, so Forretress is nice for Stealth Rocks and handles Pokémon like Florges and Aromatisee, and Mega Aggron
  • Roserade also works well to deal with Florges and can cripple switch ins with Sleep Powder
  • Defensive Rotom-H or other Pokémon with U-Turn or Volt Switch
  • Pokemon that can deal with bulky Fairy types like Crobat and Pokemon that can deal with bulky Steel types like Entei
Other Options
########
  • Pursuit
  • Iron Tail?
  • Baton Pass
  • Mixed Absol with Fire Blast or Ice Beam
  • Will-O-Wisp
Checks & Counters
########
**Mega Aggron**:
**Dedicated physical walls**: (aka suicune, Donphan)
**Faster Threats that can live a Sucker Punch**
**Fairy types**

Honestly Play Rough > Superpower due to the lack of stat drops, and Knock Off + Sucker Punch can do enough to steels

Since your intention is to use Absol as a mega, put the mega evolution ability, not the premega evolution ability (magic bounce)

No, the pre-mega ability should be listed: you still send it out as a regular Absol, and the mega ability is implied because there's only one possibility for that whereas the pre-mega ability choice can actually matter (in this case, using Justified to nab an Attack boost; see also Mega Manectric, where Lightningrod >>> Static)

Banned deucer.
I really like to use 4 attacks on mega absol since it has pretty low defenses it is hard to set up on anything. I usually use Fire Blast Knock Off Sucker Punch and Superpower which allows you to immediately kill a lot of Pokemon without having to boost like Empoleon and Forry. It is definitely not a bad set.

I would stick to Jolly as the preferred nature as outspeeding Serperior, Infernape, Froslass, even Galvantula, etc is too good to pass up. Adamant has marginally more power but the lower speed makes it not worth it.

Also in Other Options, mention a mixed set as that's the next most viable thing, with Fire Blast to nail Forretress and weakened Mega Aggron and stuff. Pursuit should also be listed there as a way to trap things that fear Sucker Punch, such as Chandelure. CM should be removed from OO cause there's no reason in hell why you would ever use that on a Mega Absol. Iron Tail and Baton Pass are good though.

In Usage Tips, specify situations where Mega Absol can safely evolve, which are 1. offensive things it forces out with Sucker Punch, and 2. defensive Pokemon it forces out.

Expand Team Options a little bit to cover more of Absol's weaknesses, like more things that beat Fairies and fat Steels.

And instead of listing individual Pokemon in Checks and Counters, group them. These would be **Fairy-types**, **Dedicated Physical Walls** (Hippo, Suicune, Chesnaught but mention that it fears +2 Play Rough), **Faster Sucker Punch resistances** (Scarf Hydreigon, Whimsicott). Mega Aggron doesn't necessarily fit into these groups, so it can stay on its own.

You should talk about Play Rough in Moves before Superpower, because it's the main slash. Also, Play Rough not only hits Dark-type Pokemon, it also hits Fighting- and Dragon-types, such as Chesnaught, Heracross and Salamence.

Mention Mix Absol specifically in OO instead of just saying Fire Blast.

WoW mention in OO, situational move that cripple the majority of Absol's checks and counters.

Bumping this and telling you to change title

Also idk why you have salamence listed in OO for reason to use ice beam as an absol switch in when it takes a good chunk from SD absol. I think even the bulky set still gets 2HKOed by +1

In moves mention how superpower hits neither fighting nor dragon types super effectively. It does hit like Rhyperior harder though. It might be worth mentioning Rhyperior (and hippo and maybe Swampert too) under physical walls

Also mention how it annoys leads suck as Froslass and Forretress though it doesn't like explosion from the custap set (though Fire Blast ruins it)

I'd go more in depth but I'm on a phone cya

I would have changed the title if I was done. I'm still putting the finishing touches on it and I would have bumped it when it was completed. :/
And I'll add the rest in a moment, once I get back on my laptop.

EDIT: Ok, now it's done and is ready for the third check

Mega Absol has fantastic offensive stats with the wide movepool to back it up. Mega Absol if Mega Absol is the only Absol that's going to be talked about this whole analysis, make sure every use is 'Mega Absol'. If you're referring to non-Mega Evolved Absol, and ONLY the not Mega Evolved version, use just 'Absol' has plenty of options offensively, with moves including Knock Off, Sucker Punch, Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Superpower, (AC) and Play Rough.
