Yeah, I can definitely see the difficulty in not noticing type-changing moves and how they interact with abilities. However, I'm not sure I totally buy that it's difficult to cover for multiple cases where they should change (or not change) using a specific move if it failed previously. As a...

I had major bosses wastefully use moves repeatedly against my Pokémon in Violet, so there's definitely some room for improvement. One was Larry hitting my Pincurchin with his Oricorio's Revelation Dance despite Lightning Rod. I'm assuming the AI picked it because it was numerically the...

Tail Slap is "Sweep Slap" in Japanese, referencing the cleaning action of the Minccino line's tails. It's why its learners all have rather bushy tails (barring Aipom/Ambipom, but I've "swept" stuff with my hands before, so I kind of get it).

It was close in Gen 8 for a little while because of Dracovish. I could have sworn it was OU at some point in the last few gens, but I did do some digging through Marty's old usage stats and it had the highest usage in OU compared to any other tier besides PU. If the usage cutoff was a little...

That's why I say to start things off with the current system, but let lower tiers keep their toys that still get used in, say, OU. Gastrodon is the main case I am thinking of but I'm sure there are others.

Hey, if the Shiny (Light) Stone can be used to evolve Pokémon that don't really have a particular connection with light, I don't see a problem with the Dark Stone being used to evolve a Pokémon that has a reasonable connection with physical, absense-of-light darkness.

The "Normal Types being immune to Body Slam" mechanics revelation is a good example of how Gen 1 players are willing to keep Gen 1 oddities despite their impact on the game. That was over 10 years of a metagame being played wrongly, and they were willing to run with the change. Speaking of...

Yeah I did glance at the policy review thread, it's pretty interesting. I actually didn't know that the uneven way link battles handle information from each player' FIGHT command had multiple impacts on the battle until like, last week lol. I think it was Reverend's video on Counter that...

I don't think Gen 1 PvP actually has all that many modded concessions, and most of them outside of Sleep Clause (which is a Stadium addition) really just exist to solve programming errors. Offhand: Psywave Desync Clause (this one genuinely feels like a omission on GF's part, though it's in...

Wigglytuff, sure, but Litleo/Pyroar wish they had a Gen 1 Normal-type's movepool. Dark Pulse is about the only meaningful coverage they get (disclaimer: I'm not sure what all they have in Gen 9, I'm going off of memory here, and memory tells me they have a respectable-but-not-amazing physical...

Stadium has quirks of its own that the base games do not (Stadium 2 for Gen 2 as well). Hyper Beam worked better with what it was in Gen 1 because of a general lack of boosting moves/options and the higher bulk relative to modern Pokémon courtesy of stat EXP.
  13. (Little) Things that annoy you in Pokémon

I think types as a mostly flavor aspect (at least for secondary types) can be fun, though it does feel bad when you don't have a good (or even moderately useful) STAB option to use for it. Honestly why is Mawile even Steel to begin with? It seems mostly like a Pokédex excuse that it had metal...
  14. SPOILERS! Mysteries and Conspiracies of Pokemon

(I'm realizing now that my reaction to this post is just an intrusive thought that I probably don't need to share, but I've got all these words written out now so I might as well post it :tymp: ) I know the point here is that it was important that the events to tie the Pokémon with their movie...

Nah, Muddy Water has always had 85% accuracy. Gotta gamble on it hitting and lowering the targets' accuracy so that your opponents have to gamble on their moves hitting.

I feel this way about people that hack in Rare Candies for Nuzlockes, too. I'm pretty sure both of our annoyances are focused more on Nuzlockes of difficulty hacks (some of which remove EVs as a factor when raising Pokémon), but I'll quote you: what's the point if you're taking the risk element...
  17. Little things you like about Pokémon

Quagsire's generally low stats are probably supplemented by stat experience and badge boosts to make it more well-rounded. Not knocking it for that, though; hard to argue with a great type combo, early accessibility, and a solid movepool that's rounded out by one of the best moves in Gen 2 (and...
  18. Unpopular opinions

I agree that they should be mini-dungeons of some sort, but what exactly that means in Pokémon is pretty vague. The series has never had great ways of interacting with the actual environment (HM blockades like Cut/Strength/Rock Smash are about it, and of those, there's only potential puzzle...

When leaks were coming out, the portraits we had of the Gym Leaders were pretty disappointing, but I ended up liking most of them. Going from a character perspective, Tulip probably is the weakest, but that puts her about on par with the best of the XY Gym Leaders (the weakest set of them in the...

I hate to be "that guy," but Electivire does get Flamethrower. It's been able to learn it since Gen 4, actually! Magmar and Electabuzz can't learn Thunderbolt/Flamethrower respectively, but they can learn Thunder Punch/Fire Punch.
